EXT. BREAKPOINT LANDING ZONE – NIGHT
Dark clouds loom over a misty battlefield. The drop ship Pillar of Autumn hovers, engines humming with tension. Lights flicker as it descends onto the hot zone.
INT. PILLAR OF AUTUMN – COCKPIT – CONTINUOUS
COMMISSIONER (into comms)
Coming in on the landing zone, copy.
TOWER CONTROLLER (V.O.)
Roger that, sending out the mechanics.
COMMISSIONER
We have landed safely. I repeat, the Spartan team has arrived.
EXT. LANDING ZONE – CONTINUOUS
The hatch opens. Spartans in full MJOLNIR armor descend with mechanical precision.
Marines scatter, eyes wide.
MARINE 1
Oh... Spartan.
MARINE 2 (whispers)
Spartans.
MARINE 3
Spartans.
Thorne, a seasoned Spartan, slams his turret into position atop a deployable shield.
ODST 1 (stunned)
Oh... uh, yeah.
ODST 2
Line up the tanks!
ODST 3
They're getting close!
ODST 4
Get the Warthogs ready!
Case (over comms)
Hold your fire! Wait till they get around the corner!
EXT. FOREST OUTSKIRTS – NIGHT
Thorne scans the trees, peering through his visor. He activates comms.
Thorne
Kade, you see anything yet?
Kade (V.O.)
Uhhh... no. They're hidden by the trees.
Thorne
Damn it.
Kade (V.O.)
Hold up— I see one grunt.
Thorne
Okay, wait...
(beat)
Don’t fire. Just throw the bombs.
Grenades are hurled. Explosions echo through the trees. Alien screams follow.
EXT. COVENANT AMBUSH POINT – MOMENTS LATER
Phoenix, another Spartan, shouts from cover.
PHOENIX
They’re around the corner!
Thorne
Fire!
Gunfire erupts. Plasma bolts fly. Elites charge through the chaos.
MARINE 4
Eat it!
MARINE 5
There’s too many of them!
MARINE 6
Huh—?
He’s impaled by an energy sword.
An Elite Ultra roars.
ELITE ULTRA
HAHAHAHA!
Thorne turns, aims—headshot.
ELITE ULTRA
GRAAAAH!!
The Elite collapses. Thorne picks up the fallen energy sword.
A massive Brute lunges at him with a Gravity Hammer. Thorne slides, dodges, and impales him.
BRUTE
Ugh!
Thud. Dead.
Thorne scans the field through the scope of a DMR. Smoke curls from Covenant wreckage. A few wounded Marines are being dragged to cover.
Thorne (into comms)
Move it, move it!
Case (over comms)
ODSTs — go, go, go!
A squad of ODSTs rounds the corner, weapons drawn.
ODST 1
In position?
Case and Thorne sprint to join them.
Case
Right behind you.
Thorne
It’s clear.
They advance through foliage, silent but alert. A Grunt steps out of the brush.
GRUNT 1
Oyyy! Who goes th—
Thorne fires. The grunt drops mid-sentence.
GRUNT 2 (off-screen)
Die, die, die!— Ulgghh!
Another grunt explodes in plasma fire.
EXT. DEEPER INTO THE FOREST – CONTINUOUS
The team breaches a ridge. Three Elites stand on patrol below — one is massive, cloaked in shimmering armor.
ELITE WARRIOR (in Sangheili)
Craagaga, hgia, hugot!
The Elites charge with a war cry.
ELITE
RAAAAAAA!
One Elite impales an ODST. The soldier gasps and collapses.
Thorne
Case—left flank!
Thorne dives into melee with another Elite. Dodging plasma blades, he pulls a combat knife and jams it up into the Elite’s mouth.
ELITE
Huk—
The alien collapses.
Thorne (panting)
It’s clear. Go, go, go.
Case (into comms)
BurntHawk, you there? Copy?
INT. COVENANT MOTHERSHIP – COMMAND BRIDGE – SIMULTANEOUS
COMMISSIONER (BurntHawk) is overlooking a hologram of the battle. Covenant fleet positions blink red.
COMMISSIONER
Roger, coming down right now. Where are the Marines?
Case (V.O.)
Wasted, sir. Most of them are still fighting.
Thorne (V.O.)
Let’s go.
EXT. WARZONE – NIGHT
The dropship swoops over the wreckage. Thorne and Case man the turrets.
Plasma bolts streak past. Jackals scatter.
Alien screams fill the air.
Thorne
Let’s go!
They both leap from the ship mid-flight and land hard.
Case headshots a Jackal.
JACKAL
Graaaa—!
Thorne
Go, go, go!
Case
We need to get to the command center of the mothership.
Thorne
Affirmative.
EXT. OUTSKIRTS OF COVENANT CRUISER – MOMENTS LATER
The Covenant mothership looms overhead — half-landed, half-hovering. A massive gravity lift glows beneath it.
ODST 2 (nervous)
That lift goes straight to the bridge.
Case
Exactly where we’re going.
EXT. COVENANT MOTHERSHIP GRAVITY LIFT – NIGHT
Thorne, Case, and the ODSTs approach the glowing beam. The hum of alien energy pulses louder as they near.
Thorne
Secure the perimeter.
ODST 3 plants a motion tracker. It blinks red.
ODST 3
Movement. Large. Coming fast.
A massive shape drops into view—a Brute Chieftain in ceremonial armor, wielding a twin-bladed gravity axe. Energy crackles across his pauldrons.
CHIEFTAIN MAUL’RUK
You are the Ghosts... the cursed Spartans of Infinity.
Thorne tenses. Recognition flashes in his eyes.
Case
Do you know him?
Thorne (grim)
I thought he was dead.
Maul’ruk roars and charges. The earth shakes with each step.
Case flanks left. ODSTs unload plasma grenades. Maul’ruk shrugs off the hits.
ODST 2
He’s not going down!
Thorne activates the stolen energy sword and meets the Chieftain in close quarters. Sparks fly. Axe meets blade.
FLASH TO: INT. UNSC INFINITY – TRAINING SIMULATION ROOM
Young Spartan Echo-3 (Thorne) spars with another Spartan in a VR dojo. Commander Sarah Palmer observes.
PALMER
You’re fast, Echo. But speed won’t save your squad. Trust will.
The training partner suddenly glitches — transforming into the face of Maul’ruk.
Maul’ruk (V.O.)
You abandoned your fireteam. Just like before.
Thorne stumbles, then recovers with a savage uppercut. He slams the sword into Maul’ruk’s thigh.
Maul’ruk howls, grabs Thorne by the throat.
Just before crushing him—
Case empties a clip into the Chieftain’s back.
Case
Off my Spartan.
Thorne kicks free and drives the energy blade straight through Maul’ruk’s chest.
MAUL’RUK
Your ghosts... will burn...
The Chieftain collapses, smoke rising.
INT. COVENANT MOTHERSHIP – COMMAND CENTER
The team ascends through the gravity lift and breaches the command deck. Holograms flicker. The ship is eerily quiet.
ODST 4
No guards?
Case (eyeing terminal)
Too quiet...
Thorne
Split up. Sweep the room.
They find a stasis pod in the center of the room. Inside: a Forerunner AI fragment, glowing faintly blue.
Case scans the console.
Case
This wasn’t a destroy mission.
Thorne
This was an extraction.
Case taps his helmet comms.
Case
ONI Command—Package secured. Tell the Admiral: Echo-3 succeeded.
ODSTs exchange nervous looks.
ODST 2
We were bait?
Suddenly, the AI’s hologram activates. A female voice, ancient and layered, speaks in fragmented English.
FORERUNNER AI
Infinity... broken... Flood... awake...
Thorne steps back. His eyes narrow.
Thorne
No. Not the Flood.
EXT. ORBIT ABOVE HALO INSTALLATION – SPACE
The damaged Covenant mothership drifts in orbit, half-exploded, plasma scars running across its hull. Smaller UNSC craft circle like vultures.
INT. UNSC PROWLER "BLACK ICE" – BRIEFING ROOM – DIMLY LIT
A tight, sterile room. Thorne, Case, and two ODSTs sit across from ONI Commander Rael Voss, cold and unreadable. The Forerunner AI fragment hovers mid-air inside a hardlight containment unit.
COMMANDER VOSS
You did well, Echo-3. Despite heavy losses, the objective was secured.
Thorne (flatly)
What is it?
VOSS
She calls herself "Lusara." A Forerunner caretaker AI... guardian of a vault beneath the Ark.
Case
There’s nothing left of the Ark. The Covenant glassed it.
LUSARA (glitching)
Incorrect. Deep Ark sector intact. Containment breach... imminent.
A pulse of light flickers across the room. Everyone stiffens.
LUSARA
The Ancient Ones stir. The Hunger... wakes.
Thorne (quietly)
The Flood.
COMMANDER VOSS
You're being reassigned.
Thorne
To secure the vault?
VOSS
To lock it down.
Case (eyes narrowing)
And if there are survivors?
VOSS
There won’t be.
ODST 1
Wait— you're ordering a clean sweep?
VOSS (coldly)
If the Flood escapes, there’s no "survivor" option.
Thorne
We’re not your hit squad.
VOSS (stepping closer)
You’re Spartans. You follow orders.
INT. UNSC BLACK ICE – ARMORY – LATER
Case locks a new weapon mod onto his rifle.
Case (to Thorne)
Do you trust ONI?
Thorne
No. But I trust the Flood less.
Case
Right. Let’s hope we don’t meet them.
Thorne (loading energy sword)
We will.
Chapter 2:
Forerunner
EXT. DROP ZONE – UNKNOWN RINGWORLD SURFACE – NIGHT
The Pelican roars through ash-choked clouds. Below: a buried Forerunner structure half-cracked open, pulsing with light. The terrain is scarred, unnatural — signs of ancient conflict.
LUSARA (V.O.)
This vault holds... the First Plague. You must seal it.
Thorne
Or destroy it.
INT. FORERUNNER VAULT ENTRANCE – MOMENTS LATER
Dark. Quiet. Echoes of dripping liquid. The squad enters cautiously.
Suddenly—**
ODST 2
Ugh... What's that smell?
A low gurgle echoes. Then—wet footsteps.
Case (quiet)
Eyes up...
Out of the shadows shambles a Flood combat form, twitching, malformed, and wrong.
ODST 3
That’s impossible—!
Thorne
Open fire!
Gunfire tears through the corridor. More Flood pour from vents, walls, even ceilings. The vault isn’t sealed — it’s leaking.
INT. VAULT CONTROL ROOM – LATER
They breach the inner sanctum — and find a lone Spartan kneeling before a ruined control terminal. Her armor is black, burned, and unmarked. She rises.
Thorne (shocked)
Echo-6?
ECHO-6 (weakly)
I tried to contain it...
Case
We thought you were KIA.
ECHO-6
ONI lied. They knew. They left us here.
LUSARA (activates behind them)
Time dwindles. You must make a choice.
Chapter 3:
The First Plague
INT. FORERUNNER VAULT CONTROL ROOM – CONTINUOUS
The room shakes. Warning glyphs blink across the ruined terminal. Thorne stares at Echo-6, stunned.
Thorne
You were declared dead.
ECHO-6
ONI needed me forgotten.
Case
How long have you been down here?
ECHO-6 (grim)
Since the last breach. Eight months. No evac. No backup.
ODST 3 (in disbelief)
You survived eight months in this place?
ECHO-6
I wasn’t surviving. I was containing.
LUSARA (V.O., glitching)
Containment... breached... Vector-09... compromised...
ODST 2
Vector what?
LUSARA
Flood... Ascendant form... approaching...
Thorne
We’re out of time.
EXT. FORERUNNER VAULT – OUTER HALLS – MOMENTS LATER
The team sprints down a spiraling corridor. The walls pulse with sickly green light. Flood biomass spreads like a cancer.
Suddenly—a massive slam echoes through the walls.
Case
That’s not just a combat form...
ECHO-6
It's evolving.
A hulking silhouette crashes into view — a grotesque, tentacled Flood Juggernaut, fused with remnants of Forerunner tech.
Thorne
That’s new.
Case
Fall back! Move!
The team unloads every weapon they have. It only slows the beast.
LUSARA (V.O.)
Vault core... must be purged. Sequence in terminal chamber.
INT. VAULT CORE TERMINAL – MOMENTS LATER
The team bursts into a towering Forerunner chamber. A glowing pylon hums at the center.
ECHO-6
Manual purge requires two biometric keys. Spartan-class only.
Case
Then let’s do it.
Thorne
Wait.
He turns to Echo-6.
Thorne
You said ONI knew. Why would they abandon you?
Echo-6 hesitates.
ECHO-6
Because I found this.
She pulls a cracked Forerunner relic from her satchel. It hums with energy.
ECHO-6 (CONT'D)
It’s a seed. A Flood genetic origin matrix. ONI wanted it.
Case
They sent you in... to retrieve it?
ECHO-6
And when I refused, they cut me loose.
Thorne (to Lusara)
What happens if we destroy the seed?
LUSARA
Seed destruction... disables Ascendant Flood... but risks vault collapse.
Case
So either the Flood evolves… or we all go down with it.
EXT. FORERUNNER VAULT – FINAL STAND SEQUENCE
The Juggernaut crashes into the chamber. The ODSTs form a perimeter.
ODST 2
We’ll hold the line!
Thorne
You won’t survive that thing!
ODST 2 (grins)
We didn’t come for survival. We came to matter.
Case
Then we purge the vault.
INT. CORE TERMINAL – MOMENTS LATER
Thorne and Echo-6 slam their palms against the console.
VAULT SYSTEM
Biometric key confirmed. Final purge sequence initiated.
LUSARA
Thirty seconds to collapse.
The core begins to glow white-hot.
EXT. VAULT – ESCAPE RUN – FINAL SECONDS
The team sprints back toward the extraction zone as the vault begins to implode. The Flood Juggernaut lurches after them, now glitching, unstable.
Case turns mid-run and launches a final plasma grenade.
Case
You’re done, freak.
BOOM — the blast knocks the Juggernaut into the collapsing biomass.
EXT. RINGWORLD SURFACE – NIGHT
A Pelican evac ship hovers low. The team dives aboard just as the vault erupts in a blinding shockwave.
INT. PELICAN – IN FLIGHT
Burned, shaken, but alive — the Spartans and ODST survivors sit in silence.
Thorne
Echo-6. That relic… you still have it?
She holds it up — cracked, but intact.
Thorne (CONT'D)
Then this isn’t over.
INT. ONI BLACK SITE – UNKNOWN LOCATION – SAME TIME
Commander Voss watches the mission feed cut to static. He turns to a shadowed figure behind him.
VOSS
They sealed the vault. But they still have the relic.
MYSTERIOUS VOICE
Then they’re compromised.
VOSS
What are your orders?
A long pause.
MYSTERIOUS VOICE
Activate Protocol: Winter Veil. Terminate all Echo assets.
Chapter 4:
Winter Veil
INT. UNSC BLACK ICE – CREW QUARTERS – NIGHT
Thorne stands alone, staring at the cracked Forerunner relic on a diagnostics table. The AI Lusara pulses faintly inside a containment field nearby.
The room hums with silence. Then— a soft chime. Encrypted message incoming.
Thorne taps the terminal.
ENCRYPTED COMM FROM: "FROSTMARK"
STATUS: EYES ONLY
MESSAGE: THEY’RE COMING. TRUST NO ONE.
He blinks. The screen wipes itself clean.
INT. BLACK ICE – BRIEFING ROOM – LATER
Case, Echo-6, and the surviving ODSTs are gathered around Commander Voss.
COMMANDER VOSS
Your next deployment window is in 12 hours. Protocol Winter Veil is in effect.
Case (suspicious)
What’s that?
VOSS
A deep-clearance extraction op. High-risk. You’ll be deploying alone—no fleet support.
ECHO-6
To where?
Voss pulls up a star map. A remote moon, unlisted. No name. Just a cold, blinking dot.
VOSS
Classified site. We believe the relic came from a deeper Forerunner archive—beneath this surface.
Thorne
You’re sending us to die.
VOSS (measured)
I’m giving you a chance to finish what you started.
Voss turns to leave. As the door closes—
ODST 1 (low)
He’s lying. We're being cleaned.
INT. BLACK ICE – HANGAR – HOURS LATER
Thorne and Case load gear onto a Pelican. Echo-6 stops beside them.
ECHO-6
What if we don’t go?
Case
You think they’ll let us disappear?
Thorne (quiet)
They already activated Winter Veil. We’re already ghosts.
A red light flickers overhead. Lockdown klaxon blares.
SHIPWIDE COMM
Security breach. Unauthorized AI access detected.
Thorne
Lusara.
INT. SERVER CORE – MOMENTS LATER
The team races into the server chamber. Lusara’s containment is breached. Hardlight shards scatter like broken glass.
LUSARA (V.O.)
I see it now... They fear what I know. They seek to erase.
Case
Erase what?
She flickers, glitching—then projects a massive hologram:
A hidden ONI facility. Underground. Within it: Flood stasis tanks, Spartan clones, and Dark AI constructs.
ECHO-6
They didn’t just want to contain the Flood...
Thorne (realizing)
They wanted to use it.
INT. BLACK ICE – COMMAND DECK – IMMEDIATELY AFTER
Voss watches the AI breach. He turns to a nearby officer.
VOSS
Lock down the ship. No one leaves.
MYSTERIOUS VOICE (V.O.)
Protocol Winter Veil authorized. Initiate Spartan Kill Directive.
INT. BLACK ICE – ARMORY CORRIDOR – NIGHT
Red lights. Emergency klaxons. The Echo team moves fast, checking corners.
ODST 2
You hear that?
ECHO-6
Boots. Too many.
Thorne (grim)
ONI strike teams.
They round a corner—and are met by black-armored Spartans. No insignia. No words. Just raised rifles.
BLACK SPARTAN 1
Echo-3. Echo-6. Case. Termination order confirmed.
Case
So that’s what Winter Veil means.
Thorne
Then let it snow.
Gunfire explodes through the hallway.
INT. BLACK ICE – ESCAPE RUN – MOMENTS LATER
Thorne and Echo-6 lead the surviving ODSTs toward the hangar.
LUSARA (V.O.)
If they recover me... they’ll resurrect the Plague.
ECHO-6
Then we don’t let them.
She slams a detonation charge onto Lusara’s containment drive.
Case (to Thorne)
We’re burning all bridges now.
Thorne
The only way forward is through.
INT. HANGAR BAY – FINAL MOMENTS
The team reaches the Pelican just as more black-clad Spartans descend from the upper decks.
BLACK SPARTAN 2
They’re escaping!
Case spins and unloads with his rifle. ODSTs fall one by one, holding the line.
ODST 2 (dying)
Go... make it matter...
The Pelican lifts off under heavy fire. Below, the Black Ice explodes—a chain reaction triggered by Lusara’s core.
EXT. ORBIT ABOVE REMOTE MOON – LATER
The Pelican drifts in silence. Inside, the survivors breathe hard, bloodied but alive.
Thorne (V.O.)
ONI thinks we’re dead. Good.
Case (V.O.)
They wanted silence. But now we’ve seen too much.
ECHO-6 (V.O.)
And we still have the relic.
Camera pans to the cracked Forerunner seed—now glowing with a different light. Not blue. Not red. Green. Pulsing. Alive.
INT. UNKNOWN ONI OUTPOST – SAME TIME
Voss enters a secure room. In the center: a captive Spartan bound in restraints.
COMMANDER VOSS
Echo-1. It’s time to wake up.
The Spartan’s eyes open—bright green. Something... wrong behind them.
ECHO-1 (in Flood-corrupted voice)
The veil... is already torn.
INT. PELICAN – IN ORBIT OVER UNCHARTED MOON – NIGHT
The Pelican rattles through upper atmosphere. Case is at the controls, bleeding from a shoulder wound. Thorne sits opposite, staring at the pulsing green relic in Echo-6’s hands.
Case
(through gritted teeth)
We’ve got five hours of fuel. No comms. No friendly tags.
Thorne
Then we disappear.
ECHO-6
(eyeing relic)
We’re not ghosts anymore. We’re something worse.
Thorne
We need a plan. That seed’s active. It’s doing something.
Case
What if it’s broadcasting?
ECHO-6
Or calling.
The relic pulses again — a harmonic tremor shakes the ship.
LUSARA (V.O., glitching)
It awakens. Not Flood. Not Forerunner. Beyond...
Thorne
Beyond what?
Lusara’s voice cuts out. A new signal bleeds into the cabin — low, guttural, alien. Not Covenant. Not Flood. Something older.
ODST 4 (quiet)
What the hell did we just bring back?
EXT. MOON SURFACE – NIGHT
The Pelican lands atop a plateau of fractured stone. Thorne steps out, scanning with his DMR. The terrain is wrong — smooth one moment, jagged the next, almost alive.
Thorne
This place isn’t on any map for a reason.
ECHO-6
Because it was buried. Sealed. Like the vault.
The relic pulses, glowing brighter. A hidden structure begins to rise from beneath the stone — ancient, monolithic, non-Forerunner.
Case (aims weapon)
That’s not Forerunner architecture.
Thorne
No. It’s older.
ODST 3
We going in?
Thorne
Yeah. But this time... we don’t come out unless we end this.
INT. THE ANTEDILUVIAN SITE – MOMENTS LATER
The squad descends into the exposed chamber. The walls shift as they move — not with mechanics, but with will. A language is etched into the walls — glowing green, not carved, but grown.
ECHO-6 (whispers)
This isn’t a weapon... It’s a tomb.
They reach the core. The relic activates — floating from Echo-6’s hands toward a strange console, ancient and vine-like.
Suddenly—
ECHO-1 (V.O., corrupted)
You brought it home.
Thorne (eyes widen)
Echo-1?
A hologram flickers — a distorted, decayed version of Spartan Echo-1, veins of Flood infection spidering through his face.
ECHO-1 (V.O.)
You were always the end. They just pointed you at the right doors.
INT. ONI OUTPOST – SAME TIME
Commander Voss watches the feed in silence. A technician scrambles at his side.
TECH
Sir, the seed’s activated a Precursor signal. It's not Forerunner. It’s... it’s alive.
VOSS
Get me Halsey. Now.
INT. ANTEDILUVIAN CORE CHAMBER – CONTINUOUS
The seed locks into place. A wave of green light erupts outward.
Time shudders.
The squad experiences flash-echoes of themselves — distorted, fragmented futures: fighting in cities overtaken by biomass, UNSC fleets falling to madness, Spartans turning into something else.
LUSARA (V.O.)
This was never about the Flood. It was always... the Before.
Case (breathless)
The Precursors. The ones even the Forerunners feared.
A shape forms in the green light — vast, shifting, impossible. Not body. Not mind. A Will.
ECHO-1 (V.O.)
You should have let me die.
Suddenly—he appears, not holographic. Echo-1, Flood-corrupted, wearing blackened Spartan armor twisted by infection.
Thorne (aims rifle)
That’s not him.
ECHO-1 (smiling)
No. But I remember being him.
He lunges.
INT. CORE CHAMBER – FINAL COMBAT SEQUENCE
Chaos erupts. Flood-Echo-1 moves faster than any Spartan. He knocks Case into a wall. Grabs ODST 3 — rips him apart.
ECHO-6
Thorne—he’s tethered to the seed!
Thorne
Then we break the tether.
Thorne charges. Echo-6 slams a power cell into the console. Case fires armor-piercing rounds into the seed.
Flood-Echo-1 screams — part-human, part-god.
LUSARA (V.O.)
You can’t kill a god. But you can erase its memory.
Thorne (to Echo-6)
Do it.
Echo-6 activates the seed's failsafe — a chain reaction begins.
Case
We won't make it out.
Thorne
That was never the plan.
Flood-Echo-1 lunges — Thorne intercepts, blade drawn. They vanish into the light.
EXT. MOON SURFACE – NIGHT
The ground collapses inward as the structure implodes. Case and Echo-6 burst from the dust, barely alive, crawling toward the Pelican.
ODST 4 (dragging them aboard)
I got you. Come on, come on—
The Pelican lifts off. Behind them, the moon's surface craters, folding in on itself.
INT. PELICAN – IN ORBIT – SILENCE
Case and Echo-6 sit in silence, staring at the starfield.
ECHO-6
He stayed behind.
Case
He always was the last light.
Echo-6 looks down — the relic is gone. But in its place...
...a sliver of armor. Thorne’s shoulder plate.
Burned. Etched with three words:
"We end it."
INT. ONI BLACK SITE – POST-SHUTDOWN
Voss stares at a dark screen. All feeds lost. All signals gone.
VOSS (to himself)
Ghosts never stay buried.
Suddenly—alarms blare.
AI SYSTEM
Containment breach in Vault 07. Flood spore activity detected.
Voss turns to run—
But behind him: a shadow moves.
