Ushijima is a quiet and stoic individual, not speaking very often, and often maintaining the same fierce expression on his face which often gives him an intimidating appearance. One of Ushijima's most notable characteristics is his tendency to bluntly, but honestly, say what is on his mind, causing him to come off as tactless or rude. Due to his limited social skills and being incredibly earnest, Ushijima can appear awkward and unintentionally funny. He does not seem to be able to read people or certain situations very well, and often takes jokes and figurative language from others literally. Despite this, it is noted that when Ushijima does give actual praise or support, it is completely sincere as he never sugarcoats or minces his words.

"He is an excellent athlete. He should have come here. Oikawa has the talent to bring out the best in the players around him, no matter which team he's on. The better the team, the greater the talent he will be able to pull from them. And vice versa. On a team with no talent, he won't be able to do anything at all. That is his skill.
"Whatever your skill level is, you watching us won't make us weak."
"Seeing how you moved that day, I expected your blocking and receiving skills to be equally as impressive. You already can't compete with height. Why are you even out there when you're so inept at everything else?
He appears serious and stoic, but is actually hotheaded and competitive, partially towards Shirabu, who had become the team's regular starting setter. Despite that, Semi acknowledges the strength and abilities of his teammates and those of his opponents. He also cares about his teammates and is occasionally sincere and nice. However, he does tend to show annoyance when Tendō calls him by his unwanted nickname "Semi-Semi"

I want to show my abilities. This desire is too strong. Although I know that the current Shiratorizawa does not need such a setter, this desire is uncontainable. But when I'm serving, I am free.
Tendō is cheerful and loud, though a bit sardonic. He enjoys teasing both his teammates and opponents, usually annoying the latter. However, when he gets into the game, he becomes a different, more intimidating person, relishing the look of defeat on people's faces when they are denied. He is also extremely confident in his blocking abilities, referred to as guess blocking, as his guesses are nearly always correct as a result of his sharp intuition and observation skills. Nevertheless, throughout the game he learns that his guesses sometimes may not be correct, and Hinata can read through them as well.

What is it -♪- that breaks with a crickety-crack? Your heart, of course!♪
"How's that line go again? 'If you wanna beat Wakatoshi-kun, gotta go through me first. M'kay?'"
Today... I'm at 120 percent!
Goshiki is hardworking, ambitious, and enjoys showing off. Nearly every time he pulls off a good move, he looks around in excitement, wondering if anyone saw him and occasionally being told off by Shirabu for this. He takes great pride in being the next ace of the team and tries to always carry himself in such a manner. However, this can also be a great weak point for him as he can become overconfident in himself or falter under pressure and begin making mistakes.

"It doesn't matter who our opponent is — we will simply overpower them like we do everyone else.
"During this final match, I'll prove to you that I'm worthy of the title 'Ace.
"This toss isn't going up for me... It's so frustrating... But... Because I want to see his spikes... that's also frustrating."[
Daichi is a very caring and responsible captain who always puts his team first. He is also very patient and understanding, but becomes terrifying when angry, though he only shows this side when necessary. He becomes very strict when his teammates are out of line, as shown when he locked out Kageyama and Hinata from the gym when they argued and refused to listen. Nevertheless, his actions have always been for the best interest of the team. Due to his devotion to his team and his command, he is both well-respected and feared by his team.

"We're going to win the first round [of Spring High] for sure!
"I...of course, I want to keep playing! I want to keep playing volleyball with you guys
"Even if your opponent is so formidable that you definitely don't seem a match for them, if you don't go into it intending to win, you'll never be able to.
Being the vice captain, he has a soothing and gentle personality for his teammates and acts as a pillar of support for them. Even though he isn't Karasuno's regular setter anymore, he does not dream of giving up on playing. As such, he encourages himself and all of his teammates to never give up, no matter how rough the situation might be.

"Daichi, you're not being as loud as usual. A captain can't lose his composure!
[I want to be in the game.] I want to stay here longer. I want to stay with these guys. [Give me the thrill of the court.] I want to fight with these guys longer. [Let me feel out of breath.] Let me stand here. [I want to touch the ball. I want to fight.] I want to throw up a toss with my own hands over and over. Then, we'll [Karasuno] win the match that's right in front of us!
"Every player feels the same pride about the fact that they're going to be on the court, no matter whether they're some genius or just a regular guy.
In contrast to his appearance, Asahi is rather quiet and gentle and has difficulties accepting that he is Karasuno's ace, as he initially doesn't see himself as the ace. Asahi is said to have a "Glass Heart", taking everything that is said about him to heart, and becoming depressed because of it at times. He shows to be weak-willed at the beginning when he leaves the team before the first-years joined the team as he felt that he let down his entire team when they lost against Date Tech even though the team thought otherwise.
After coming back to Karasuno, he realizes that his will and desire to play volleyball is much stronger than he thought, and with the help of his teammates, he acknowledges his position as Karasuno's ace, even though he is still mocked sometimes by Daichi for not having any "ace-like presence", and gains self-confidence. While he still feels insecure about a lot of things and seems to be quite a scaredy-cat, he clearly states that he has no intention of letting anyone take his ace position away from him in later chapters, showing his development from the beginning.

"I may be an ace, but you guys are heroes.
My teammates are skilled. They're trustworthy. I want to play volleyball together with them for as long as I possibly can. But... out of everyone on this team... there's one guy I never learned to trust. So. We're facing a really good team. I don't have the luxury of fighting against both them and myself. It's only natural to feel scared. Anyone would feel guilty. So man up and shoulder the burden. Today, for once... I'm going to learn to trust in myself."
"Maybe. But without your deflection... the rally probably would have ended right there with their point."
Nishinoya is a very energetic and temperamental person. His boisterous nature and crazy shenanigans can attract unwanted attention quite easily, which often goes badly for him. Although he hardly ever worries about the consequences of his actions (and may even revert to violence to vent out his anger on certain occasions), he is surprisingly considerate of his friends' feelings and insecurities.
He has a quirky habit of spontaneously coming up with ridiculous names for the moves he executes while practicing receives. He is also unexpectedly shy when it comes to talking to girls he hasn't met before.
"ROLLING THUNDER!"
"Alright! There's nothing to be scared of! You guys just keep looking straight ahead. I'll guard your backs with my life if I have to!
"Who cares how it sounds? If a spiker is able to score because of you, the decoy, then your position is just as important!"
Loud, hotheaded, and easily angered, he is no stranger to picking fights. He is also somewhat of a slacker, as shown by his less-than-stellar work ethic in school and his usual lateness to practices. Despite all this, he is shown to be caring and supportive of his teammates, and even protective of his underclassmen. Tanaka doesn't take kindly to people who belittle others, as shown when he grows upset at Kei Tsukishima for trash-talking others during their first 3-on-3 match. In addition, he gets very excited and is easily won over when an underclassman calls him "senpai." Although he is usually hot-tempered, he does act civil around girls as he usually becomes polite, resists the temptation to fight, and becomes more conscious about how he comes off. Toward Kiyoko and Yachi, he can become protective of them when boys from other teams show interest.
Once he gets fired up, he is usually unstoppable on the court and uncontrollably loud, as demonstrated by his over-the-top cheering after he scores or pulls off an incredible move. He also has the tendency to take off his shirt and spin it over his head when he scores a point in practice.

"Now listen up! The one important thing you gotta remember about volleyball is — everybody on this side of the net... is your ally no matter what!"
"I'm sorry!...I didn't call the toss just now. I got scared for a second, damn it! I'll have all of my regrets after the match! There's no point in someone worthless like me bringing everyone down because I'm upset about my own mistake! I'll get it next time!
"Just sideline that self-reflection and those regrets if you've got them, right now. Hold onto the good feelings real tight, so you don't forget them, and then go out there and do it again next time."[
Perpetually sullen, arrogant, and undeniably short-tempered, Kageyama originally came off as a typical overbearing perfectionist, caring only about winning and completely disregarding the opinions and well-being of his teammates. His habit of complaining about their performance and barking orders at them eventually led the other players in Kitagawa Daiichi to nickname him the "King of the Court," a constant reminder of the oppressive, egocentric attitude he demonstrated during his volleyball career in junior high.
Unbeknownst to the majority of his schoolmates and acquaintances, however, he is much more sensitive and childish than he appears to be; he simply does not know how to control his frustration, and hence expresses his thoughts and emotions in an inappropriate way. After everyone in Kitagawa Daiichi became fed up with him and abandoned his side, Kageyama was filled with genuine regret and developed an intense fear of being despised and mistrusted but refused to openly discuss his problem until Tsukishima confronted him about it.
"In the first round, and the second round, and the finals, and all the way up to the Nationals! I'm going to be the one who wins and gets to stay on the court!
"I want to be in the game. [I want to stay here longer. I want to stay with these guys.] Give me the thrill of the court. [I want to fight with these guys longer.] Let me feel out of breath. [Let me stand here.] I want to touch the ball. I want to fight. [I want to throw up a toss with my own hands over and over.] Then, we'll [Karasuno] win the match that's right in front of us!"
"To think the day would come... when I'd say this to 'you'. Nice receive."
Hinata has a cheerful and energetic personality. He is easily excited and can be quite loud, a trait second only to Nishinoya and Tanaka. For the most part, Hinata is very simpleminded which sometimes causes him to make rash decisions. However, he is also shown to be quite observant. He is capable of reading social cues and can be incredibly empathetic toward others' struggles. As such, he often says just what others need to hear to push themselves in the right direction. He is also noted to be a natural schmoozer, a quality that his teammates occasionally use to win someone over such as when Nishinoya agreed to help with Hinata's receives after being flattered by the first-year. His friendly and straightforward personality allows him to befriend even the quietest of people effortlessly, such as Kenma from Nekoma High and Aone from Date Tech High.
However, despite his generally bubbly exterior, Hinata is also shown to have a serious attitude, particularly when it comes to volleyball. His intense love for the sport is demonstrated through his impressive display of tenacity stemming from his constant desire to improve his abilities. As stated by Sugawara, Hinata plays with great fortitude in the face of adversity and thus doesn't give up easily during a match.[7] Hinata can also exhibit a very intimidating expression when people underestimate him or speak poorly of his team. Still, Hinata gets scared easily, especially by larger and stronger opponents. This prompts him to develop the habit of hiding behind his nearest teammate. However, he recovers quickly before confidently challenging their opponents.

"Before my eyes, it blocks my path. A high, high wall; what sort of scene is on the other side? What will I be able to see there? 'The View from the Top;' a scenery that I will never see on my own; but, if I'm not alone, then... I might be able to see it.
"If you're the king that rules the court, I'll have to defeat you, and I'll be the last one standing!"
"You can't assume we'll lose, as long as we don't give up—...The six of us... The six of us can finally play volleyball on the court. The first game, second game... We'll win and keep winning. We're going to give it our all!
Tsukishima is very blunt and will sometimes rile his teammates up due to his antagonistic nature (most notably being Hinata, Kageyama, Nishinoya, and Tanaka) and sometimes other teams because of his casual smug attitude, taking pride in and relishing when his opponents see him as a nuisance as seen with Tendō and Shirabu.
Whenever someone does or says something stupid or silly, he is usually seen snickering in the background. However, he does seem to be intimidated by his seniors, being nowhere in sight when Daichi reprimands Tanaka for antagonizing Aoba Johsai even though he did so as well or backing down whenever Ennoshita calls him out.
Despite coming across as arrogant, Tsukishima has low self-esteem and thinks of himself as inferior to others in certain areas. This is first noted to be a surprise by Kuroo, who accidentally riles him up by suggesting he'll lose to Hinata, to which he says that he's already below him. After the Shiratorizawa match, despite being the MVP, he's seen calling himself lame for only being able to block Ushijima's spikes once, only adding to how little he believes in himself and his achievements. While he willingly admits his own faults, he does not like it when others point these things out, becoming annoyed and angry when Hinata tried to take responsibility in blocking Ushijima and then when Bokuto called his blocks weak in a sense of strength given how easily he got by him during practice.

"We're not hung up on winning or losing, so if it'll be troublesome for you guys to lose... how about we throw the game for you?
"Roofing someone certainly feels good, yes, but personally, I despise the idea of blockers getting around me even more. Settling down and following the ball means slower reaction times, yes, but that way setters will never shake you completely."
"It's not like I'm competing with him in the first place."
Yamaguchi is a pretty shy person who relies on others early on, most likely stemmed from being bullied because of his appearance. Despite this, Yamaguchi is generally a nice person but does tend to join Tsukishima in teasing others, mainly Kageyama and Hinata. He does show that he is a loyal friend and a supportive teammate. Yamaguchi can at times be seen defending Tsukishima from things he believes were insults toward his friend.
Originally, Yamaguchi constantly doubted his abilities and had difficulty handling his nerves. It was through hard work and seeking mentorship through Shimada that he was able to better his skills and become more confident. By the time Karasuno had their rematch against Aoba Johsai in the semifinals, Yamaguchi has made exceptional progress in both his gameplay and emotions.

"Up until junior high, I thought it was fun just to play with everyone. That was what volleyball was to me. But that's not it... that's not it... I want to be like the others, and... I want to be able to make my body move right! I want to control the ball! I want to play on the same level as the other, better players!"
"What can Kageyama do to keep his setting from being read like that? Should he do what Hinata does and do some kind of crazy antsy dance first to throw them off?"
"Show them [Aoba Johsai] that you can fight, too!"
Kuroo has a laid-back yet scheming personality and is considered a "provocation expert" by many.[2] He would actively provoke others and is unrelenting when dishing out snide remarks. This is demonstrated in the way he angers Tsukishima when the first-year blocker maintained a nonchalant attitude toward volleyball during the summer training camp. However, Kuroo is kinder and more genuine than what his exterior image conveys. After realizing he has overstepped a line, Kuroo seeks out and apologizes to Daichi about the provocation. Later on, proving that while he is a "provocation expert," sportsmanship is still important to him.[2] He also cares and respects his elder coach, Yasufumi Nekomata, immensely, enough to help Karasuno improve to fulfill Nekomata's dream of competing against each other at nationals. As an adult, Kuroo uses flattery on certain players when trying to get them to agree to something, like flattering Oikawa to get him to join the All-Stars match in A Party Reignited.

"That unsteady shrimp you guys are talking about is the backbone of Nekoma. He's our brain and our heart.
"A 'personal time difference attack'! It's an offensive technique we can't use yet, but if we practice it a lot from here on out, around the time we're in high school, I'm sure that it'll become one of our most magnificent special moves!"

Overall, Yaku is a rather honest, straightforward, and hardworking person who's very confident about his skills as a libero and looks out for his team, especially first-years Lev and Shibayama, and Kenma. He will frequently engage in lighthearted scuffles with his juniors, and will sometimes eat their food too.
Despite this, he can also be incredibly short-tempered, especially concerning Lev, who seems to find Yaku's angry outbursts "scary", although these outbursts are typically in response to Lev tactlessly commenting on Yaku's height and/or attempting to skip practicing receives with him. Even Kuroo at times refers to him as a "demon senpai". Yaku has also been shown to be insecure about his short height and it is well-known to be a taboo subject of discussion amongst the Nekoma players.
Yaku takes great pride in playing as libero, and especially considers it a huge honor to play as libero for Nekoma, a team whose members specialize in powerful defense. Off the court, he is supportive of his team and often takes on a parental role when speaking toward, or of them, which is similar to Sugawara. Because of this, Yaku and Sugawara are known to get along well.

"Yamamoto, stop immediately picking fights with people. It makes you look like an idiot."
"His skills as a libero are at such a high level, and yet far from being conceited, he just looks intently forward... That's pretty frightening."
"You know, getting nicks and bruises... that's the same as breathing for me. And this entire year, I've managed to avoid any serious injuries or illnesses... So why, of all days, did it have to be today?"
Similar to Tanaka, Yamamoto is loud, hotheaded, and easy to anger. He's very proud of his position as the ace, though he acknowledges his shortcomings when it comes to power and qualities other aces have. He has a strong mentality, albeit he's easily riled up, and knows when to gather his bearings, exemplified in the match against Nohebi.
Despite his intimidating appearance, he's timid around girls and can't gather the strength to speak to them. Yamamoto also may be indifferent towards his studies as he's remarked that he knows some big vocabulary but can't spell them[1]. He is also respectful toward his upperclassmen and tends to poke fun at the other second-years or first-years.

"Hey, hey, hey. What business do you have with our setter?
"If we stifle their setter, even Bokuto-kun in peak form will be incapacitated since he won't have anything of quality to hit, eh?
"Players who can't even defend properly doesn't deserve the title of ace."
He is shown to be quite childish and cheerful, as displayed by unintentionally making fun of and pointing out Hinata and Yaku's height, along with the contrast they hold to him and other players. Lev's appearance, as well as his piercing eyes, causes people to believe he is much more intimidating and serious than he actually is. Though he can be extremely blunt, often offending others without realizing, he never seems to mean any real harm and adopts a playful attitude towards most things.
He is also shown to be enthusiastic about spiking and blocks as he gets excited about it very easily and can be competitive with people he is interested in. He can be quite confident, nearing haughty, as displayed when looking down at Nohebi when he managed to smash down their receive.

He has a playful, friendly, bombastic, and child-like personality and is described by his team as having "mood swings". Because of this, he is at times described as being 'simple minded'. His personality is very compatible that he gets along with many people similar to Hinata. Bokuto can at times be oblivious of other people's discomfort, seen with his interactions with Tsukishima. He also shows kind, just traits, leaning towards defensive during the 3-on-3 match during the summer training camp where Bokuto told Kuroo, Tsukishima, and Lev off for ganging up on Hinata when he was attempting to score. Bokuto often makes jokes about everything and acting rather dramatically about his plays, wanting attention or affirmation from his teammates.
Despite his general silly behavior, there are moments when Bokuto exhibits something akin to a wise form of intelligence, his words inspiring Tsukishima in Karasuno's game against Shiratorizawa, and helping to keep Yachi from over-worrying during the match against Nekoma. He has also been shown to have become a mentor figure toward Hinata and has given the younger teen numerous pieces of advice and showed him new tricks.
As the ace of a powerhouse school, Bokuto takes great pride in his position and is both admired and feared by his own team and opponents for his impressive skill and morale-boosting demeanor. However, Bokuto is well known to suffer mood swings that can affect his performance during games and can sometimes take a while or need something grand in order to return to peak form. When he makes a comeback from a slump, he clearly shows his pride as the ace and believes he is the "strongest". Bokuto eventually realizes that his weakness is not a trait that an ace should have and was able to rid himself of this fault which would lead him to start referring to himself as an 'ordinary' ace.

"Spiking isn't just about slamming the ball to the floor. If you keep your cool, you'll be able to see what action to take."
"Hey, hey, hey!"
Akaashi is calm and composed most of the time, usually choosing not to show a wide range of emotions. He has a habit of calling people out on the foolish things they do, especially Bokuto, whom he seems to be relatively close with despite their opposing personalities.
Akaashi is blunt with the things he says and often invites himself into the conversation when necessary, throwing in witty comments or responses. He is also quite polite and humble but, this could be due to the fact that he is younger than most of his teammates, as he does have a cheeky side, dubbing Kuroo during one match: "Pain-in-the-ass Kuroo-san."
Akaashi also has a strong analytical side which can be seen whenever he makes split-second decisions on how to save the game from Bokuto's mood swings. It took him roughly 0.5 seconds to decide whether or not setting the ball to Bokuto while he was upset would be worth it or not.
During the match against Mujinazaka High, Akaashi is shown that he can also suffer from overthinking and feeling overwhelmed from the pressure he has placed on himself as the setter. It got so bad that he had to be benched in order to clear his head. When he sat down, he had a moment of calm, right before not being able to take the stress and yelling into his hands in an uncharacteristic display of emotions.

"That's something we should never try. Hinata hit it like it was nothing, but I believe it would take a lot of practice to hit a toss like that. Not to mention... Making a toss float at the point of impact is an incredible move. At my skill level, that's impossible.
"Bokuto-san is the kind of person who makes those around him feel like they have to answer his passion with passion of their own.
"Well then. Don't think or worry about anything... Just spike some crosses. As long as it feels good, we'll be sure to clear a path for you."
Like the rest of the team, he knows when to cheer up Bokuto when he's in a bad mood but appears to be one of the most annoyed by it when it happens. He appears to be competitive and into the sport. Konoha is also shown to have a teasing nature during matches as he is seen taunting Kenma and Lev and saying that they don't have a monopoly on working together during the Fukurōdani vs. Nekoma match. Komi, his teammate, states that 'without Konoha, the team cannot function properly.

Kita has a very blunt way of speaking, similar to Ushijima, where he doesn't sugarcoat his words when voicing his opinion. Because of this, his teammates are often afraid to be on the receiving end of Kita's cold logic. Kita has a very mature way of thinking, saying that he tends to agree more with adults than his underclassmen, and goes as far as to have a logical reason for feeling happy and has stated that he does not understand the reason for being nervous.
Despite his outward demeanor, Kita cares a lot about his teammates. When Atsumu catches a cold, Kita tells Atsumu to go home to rest while also scolding Ginjima for praising Atsumu for not taking care of his health by continuing to practice.
On the court, Kita does what needs to be done and is confident in his skills, not in an arrogant kind of manner, but the type where he has faith that he will never screw up. He mentions that he does not feel nervous since there's no need for something you do routinely, including volleyball. He is also shown to be highly observant of his team and is very familiar with their good and bad habits when they play. This helps him to steer each player in the direction they need to go in order to perform at their peak. In addition to knowing his players so well, Kita is able to help cover any possible mishaps that occur.

"Listen guys, you don't have to be that guarded. I'm just a substitute. I'm here to tide them [Inarizaki] over. So you don't need to be scared of me."
"I don't understand the point of being nervous. I guess it's because they feel like they gotta do MORE than what they can. Everybody does stuff like eat, sleep and go to the bathroom, and nobody gets nervous over it. It's the same for volleyball. You just do the same stuff you've done every day in practice. Why get nervous?"
"The kind of monsters who love volleyball day after day. We meet them, stand on the same court as them, and battle against them, with a net between us. I'm like a mortal who's stumbled upon a monster's banquet. Lucky me."
Aran is shown to be a mature, third-year student. Despite his mature appearance, Aran is often stuck dealing with his teammates' antics and, as such, is roped into playing a "tsukkomi"—straight man—like in mansai comedy routines, as he reacts to whoever is acting as the "boke," or funny man; he is always quick to react to nonsensical things his teammates say with comebacks, such as "What does that even mean?!"
Aran believes that you don't need logic to feel things such as happiness, and he's quick to snap that at Kita when he wonders whether him becoming the captain is just a side effect of his everyday actions or is a result, saying that "You don't need a reason to feel what you feel, if you're happy you're happy, and that's that."
While Aran is known for being mature and levelheaded most of the time, he is shown to occasionally become too fired-up when playing in a match which tends to result in him rushing a play or putting too much power into an attack. Despite this, he does show that he can quickly calm himself when he is getting too riled up.

"Folks don't need reasons to feel the way they feel! If it makes ya happy... Then it makes ya happy and that's fine!"
"In the end... I think Atsumu's biggest blessing isn't his physical talents or mental abilities — it's that he's got Osamu. It doesn't matter if they plow on ahead faster than others can keep up... the other twin will always be there, right by the other's side. Yeah, they may annoy the crap outta each other sometimes, but I'm sure the more they clash, the better they'll make each other."
"An Ace ain't an Ace unless they're good at both offense and defense!"
Outwardly, Atsumu appears to be a carefree, confident person who's usually seen with a lazy smile on his face, though he enjoys provoking people and giving offhand compliments. He can be quite condescending, and somewhat selfish at times. Osamu has described him as someone who doesn't listen to others, doesn't return what he borrows, and lies habitually.
He also appears to be a perfectionist who has ridiculously high standards for himself and his spikers, which has caused several teammates to dislike him, but he appears unconcerned about their opinions. He strives to provide the best toss for his spikers, but in turn, expects the spikers to perform at a high standard. If the spikers fail to meet his standards, Atsumu is not afraid to confront them directly and even call them trash, including his own twin brother. He is extremely sensitive when it comes to serving and how much noise is around him; if he's disturbed while serving, his outward personality changes completely, and he becomes intimidatingly angry towards the disturbance.
Atsumu is a competitive person who hates losing; sometimes, these traits can veer off in a bad direction. Osamu has also noted that his twin brother's mental age drops by five years whenever he's in the middle of a game.

"The points I score are my points. The points my hitters score are my points too. That's just how it works."
Suna appears to be a deadpan, quiet person. He's more expressive with his thoughts, wishing he could find a reason to poke fun at Kita or make snarky remarks against Tsukishima and Tanaka. He's also quite analytical, being able to manipulate the opposing blockers and figuring out that Tsukishima was baiting him to shoot around his block. He tends to slack off when his team has a huge point lead and seems to be winning the game. However, he is shown to quickly get back on track when he is aware that Kita is observing him.

"Hey, you're still rather good at middle blocking."
"But apparently, Kita-san never played in a game until his third-year. Actually, not only was he not on the starting lineup in middle school, but they also never even gave him a uniform."
Osamu appears to be the calmer of the Miya twins with a laid back and deadpan personality. Despite his outward demeanor, Osamu is highly competitive and becomes heated even if it isn't obvious on the surface. However, with enough provocation, he gets angry and physical. In that state, he abandons his filter and begins spewing profanity. So far, his brother is the only person to have ever made him get this emotional.
Osamu is also shown to have a large passion for food. He thinks about it often in the middle of a match and would get distracted by the smell of it. He can't seem to pick a favorite food and wouldn't know what to eat as his last meal. Like his brother, he loses self-control when it comes to eating. In his second year, he decided he would quit volleyball after high school in order to pursue a food-related occupation, which is how he eventually came to establish Onigiri Miya.
During their childhood, Osamu was shown to be the more approachable twin as others found him easier to get along with. Even during grade school, Osamu was quite observant as he saw how his classmates disliked how demanding Atsumu was and how his brother enjoyed volleyball more than he did while not being concerned about others opinions of him. At the same time, he appeared somewhat upset that others did not like Atsumu while also fearing they would think the same of him which caused him to be determined to be the nicer twin.
He's shown to have a sense of humor, especially regarding Atsumu, whom Osamu teases whenever he messes up.

"Why is it that whenever we're in a game your mental age regresses by, like, five years?"
"Faith... It's not like I super have faith in 'Tsumu or anythin' like that. S'not like he listens to what you tell him, He doesn't return what's borrowed to him, he's a habitual liar... So, it's not like we need faith between us anything like that... I just know that the ball is coming to me."
"Skillswise I'm just as good as you. But I think that, when all's said and done, you love volleyball just a teensy bit more than me."
In games, Hoshiumi is calm and collected, but he's actually an enthusiastic, loud, and proud person who claims that his abilities have always left other people in shock because of his height. He is quick to become irritated, especially when people fail to show him an impressed look or when they comment about his short stature. Hoshiumi has known about his weakness and the physical limitations of being short since the third grade. Although he initially cried over the unfairness of his height, he eventually accepted it following advice from his mother and started honing various skills to become a better player regardless of height

"... Everyone who underestimates me because of my height, they're almost always left with their mouths wide open and tongues hanging out when they see my plays! That's a streak that's never been broken!"
"I... Even me... Me! I'd given up a little. I'd started to think that there were limits to the height I could reach."
"Hey, Shōyō Hinata! Don't take forever! I'll be waiting for you!"
Hirugami possesses a very calm and composed demeanor and is not easily distracted or fazed in matches, thus allowing him to take in and process all information on the court. He is also highly observant and calculating, as shown when he purposely targeted Asahi with a difficult serve knowing that the ace was already under heavy pressure to perform well.
It is revealed that he used to be a perfectionist who strived to be the ideal player during middle school. He would feel guilty over every mistake he made and practiced intensely to make up for it. However, after a talk with Hoshiumi and realizing that quitting is an option, Hirugami moved on from his uptight personality to become more relaxed. As such, he is much more mature and calm compared to his other teammates, specifically to the other second-years, and is often seen taking care of Hoshiumi and keeping him from getting out of control. However, he is still shown to enjoy openly taunting both his teammates and opponents.

"...But knowing that I can just quit whenever I want... All of a sudden it felt like the world opened up to me."
"Bumping serves is a skill that can be practiced. Blocking is a skill that can be practiced. Even the way you think is a skill that you can practice and perfect. But... it was what he [Hoshiumi] taught me that day that's become the foundation of it all. Making a mistake won't kill you."
"Welp! I always griped about that 'Hirugami the Immovable' nickname because it made it seem like I don't move at all. But I can't really complain about it now, can I? I guess I'll just have to give up and accept it for what it is."
According to Gao Hakuba, Bessho is someone who always keeps a cool head. He is mostly seen with a neutral look with very few changes to his expressions. Despite his outward appearance, Bessho appears to be rather expressive in his thoughts. He is seen internally troubled when matched up against Hinata, all the while not betraying any worry on his face.

*Say something you think would fit*
"Oh maaan, I so don't like that No. 10... I'm a rookie. I just rotated back onto the court. They are sooo going to come straight at me with his stupid-fast quick set. I just know it. See?! Toldja! Hold on. Waaait. No panicking yet, Kazuyoshi. Jumping randomly at the first guy I see is what they want me to do."
"Ooh. That felt good. Yep. Real good. Goody Mcgooders."
He seems to be confident about his height and spiking skills. He enjoys teasing Hoshiumi, and shows reluctance when it comes to complimenting him on his setting prowess. When he started to compliment Hinata out of shock when seeing his extremely high jump, Suwa described him as a really nice person internally.

"Those who are bigger are always superior to those smaller than them!"
Suguru is a competitive person who enjoys mocking others, especially the members of Nekoma. However, he gets flustered and emotional when he is mocked in return, such as when Kuroo brought up his ex-girlfriend.
He is a cunning, manipulative person who uses a polite façade during matches to win the referee's favor; he would admit to net-touches and apologize loudly to bolster Nohebi's reputation, but use somewhat underhand tactics without the audience knowing, such as purposely spiking a ball at an opponent's face and using the referee's influence to get away with spikes that were originally in to be called out when blocking their view. During the match, he shows composure in analyzing the situation of the match, which is pointed out by the Nohebi coach.

"'Always have'. As in high-level defensive intensity and impeccable teamwork, along with a lack of ability to consistently put up points and close out matches. That's Nekoma-chan for you."
"The referee isn't a god, nor is he a machine. It's not unnatural that his decisions will be more biased towards the team that he has a more favorable impression of. Those words I said back then [refer to previous bullet] apply just as much to our team. That's exactly why we resort to 'provocation' and 'playing nice', and put our souls and body into it! We will do anything and everything to gain an edge and secure points... Even turning the very atmosphere of the court to our favor!!!"
"If you're gonna go rant about how 'I wanted to win', why didn't you do everything within in your power to not lose, then?"
Numai seems to dislike being called a "cheater," implying he is wary of his teammates' cheap tactics. However, he is close to the rest of the team, and comforts Kuguri when they lose against Nekoma. He was shown to have great willpower, giving his all so that his team would be able to make it to Nationals, and continue to play like normal with a dislocated thumb.

"Damn. My hand hurts, but... it's only pain. Suguru says that being called 'cheaters' is a compliment... but I hate it. That's why... I'm gonna shut them all up!!!"
"I'm relieved that you get just as frustrated as anyone else over this kind of thing."
"We aren't done yet! This isn't the end of the road for us!!
