Guys and Dolls: Script Read
Project Overview
We’re hosting a virtual script read of Guys and Dolls on August 21, 2026, at 8:30 pm EST: The classic Broadway musical known for its colorful characters, witty dialogue, and iconic charm. This is not a musical performance — no singing required. This read focuses entirely on character acting, comedic timing, and ensemble chemistry.
The goal is to bring together a group of passionate performers for a fun, relaxed, community-driven read-through of the script. Perfect for actors who love Golden Age theatre, character-driven comedy, or simply want to sharpen their cold‑reading skills.

“Discipline and devotion guide my life, even when temptation insists on testing my resolve.”
“I believe people can change — but they have to want that change for themselves.”
“Sometimes doing the right thing is harder than anyone expects, but that doesn’t make it less right.”
Nathan’s long-suffering fiancée. Warm, comedic, and delightfully dramatic. A standout character actor role.
“I’ve been engaged for fourteen years, and if patience were a sport, I’d be the world champion.”
“Nathan, darling, you can’t keep secrets from me — I get the sniffles every time you do.”
“I just want a nice wedding, a nice home, and a nice husband who actually shows up!”
Lovable, upbeat, and full of personality. A comedic supporting role with great energy.
“I try to stay positive — even when the odds are stacked like a tower ready to fall.”
“You know, a good meal solves most problems. Maybe not all, but most.”
“I’m not saying I’m the brains of the operation, but I do have my moments.”
Nicely’s partner in crime—quick-witted, street-smart, and fun.
“If there’s a scheme in town, I’ve heard of it — and probably improved it.”
“Nicely’s got the charm, I’ve got the smarts. Together, we’re unstoppable… or at least entertaining.”
“I don’t trust luck. I trust preparation — and maybe a little bluffing.”
Arvide Abernathy
“Kindness is a powerful thing, even if it doesn’t always look like it.”
“The world’s full of troubled souls. Our job is to guide them, not judge them.”

Authoritative, commanding, and serious — but with moments of humor.
“Order and discipline are the pillars of our mission, and I expect both from everyone here.”
“I’ve seen many strange things in my time, but this… this is certainly new.”
“If we’re going to make progress, we must do it with conviction.”
Intimidating, blunt, and deadpan. A comedic tough-guy role.
“I don’t like small talk. Say what you mean, or don’t say anything at all.”
“Where I come from, you don’t argue with the guy holding the dice.”
“I play straight — and if I don’t, you won’t know the difference.”
A slick, confident gambler with a distinctive personality.
“I’ve got connections all over town. You need something? I know a guy.”
“Don’t underestimate me just because I talk smooth — I can back it up.”
“A good reputation is worth more than a winning hand.”
