‘GROUNDED’ Audio Drama!

‘GROUNDED’ Audio Drama!

Project Overview

What happens when two ghosts and a human girl band together to find the one good deed to get them into heaven. Why hilarity, of course!

Grounded focuses on our three protagonists, two ghosts and one human. The ghosts, Nancy and Thomas Freeman, died in the 50’s during a hilarious yet misfortunate boating accident, but they don’t like to talk much about that. They have been haunting their home ever since, and whilst they didn’t like the situation, they didn’t much mind it. Until the Name’s moved in, disrupting every day afterlife for the Freeman’s. It is Thomas who decides that something must be done, and Nancy suggests that good people who do good things go to Heaven, so in order to make it to Heaven, they had to do something so amazing and good that the Heavens would have no choice but to open the Pearly gates to them. Judy agrees to help them, on the condition that they help scare off her high school bullies.

Through each failed attempt the three only grow closer in their pursuit for the perfect good deed.

This show will focus on the three characters journeys into becoming “good people”. They each have flaws and faults that they might not have even realized. They each have done things they regret. But, they’re trying, and that’s the most important thing.

Isn’t it?

(PLEASE have a discoed so we can do group recordings!)

An older and wiser tone of voice. Any accent!

  • This….. is Thomas and Nancy Freeman. Today is their last day on earth, but, shh, they’re not aware of that just yet.

  • Death will be a present theme in this story, I’m unafraid to say.

  • And who am I exactly? Well, for now, let’s focus on the Freeman’s.

Nancy is the bright eyed bushy tailed wife of Thomas Freeman. She is incredibly naive and all too trusting.

She is happy go lucky and always willing to do anything and everything. She is eager to try these “good deeds” and eager to go to Heaven, because, “Grandma will have her fresh baked cookies ready for us!” The type to view a pinkie promise as legally binding, Nancy also tends to see the bright side to every situation, and her positive attitude can become overwhelming at times. She is happy to lend a hand and do things for the greater good.

Nancy is incredibly happy go lucky with a childlike innocence and naivety to her. She is eager to try new things, and is incredibly eager to do these good deeds in order to finally get to Heaven. She sees herself as a good person and isn’t exactly sure why she and her husband are stuck here on Earth, but figures that everything happens for a reason. She is the type of person to view the glass as half full, with more water to fill it even further just waiting out there somewhere!

  • Oh, hello dear! How was your day at work?

  • What is that doohickey? The one you’re holding in your hands?

  • Thomas, I truly believe we should listen to this strange girl and give her a shot!

Thomas Freeman is a nervous wreck. He tends to always see the negative side of things, a polar opposite of his wife. He is a man afraid of his own shadow. He knows that something must be done about their situation but isn’t sure that this is the way to go about it. He is jittery and anxious, the one to say “but what if something goes wrong?”

It’s a wonder how he and Nancy ever ended up together, though I guess it’s true what they say “opposites attract”. It often takes a lot of convincing to get him on board with one of Judy or Nancy’s plans. Despite him being quite cowardly, he does often find his brave streak when someone he cares about is in danger, and once the situation is over and done with, he resorts back to his cowardly ways. He however is very sweet and kind, and would never harm a fly.

  • ( Happy )Oh swell, dear! What’s for dinner?

  • ( Surprised, Angry ) Now? NOW they decide to move people into here?

  • ( Drained ) I need a cup of cocoa.

Robert is Judys father. He is distant and reserved, not an involved father by all means. But, he truly does care about his daughter and would do anything for her, even if it doesn’t seem like it.

  • (Distant, bored ) Maybe you’ll make some new friends here honey.

  • ( Calm ) How about a pizza tonight? I know a guy?

  • ( Exasperated ) A suspension? Already? It’s been four minutes and thirty-five seconds. A new record.

Judy is the spitfire of a human girl that ends up moving into the Freeman residence along with her father. She has an estranged relationship with her businessman father, whom we hardly ever see. She is longing for something more, as she feels quite lost ever since her mother left them after her parents nasty divorce. Helping the Freeman’s also helps her, it helps her to find meaning and purpose, something she was lacking.

She is incredibly sarcastic and her tongue tends to get herself into trouble quite often, whether that be with the guidance counselor or with her father. She soon ends up finding solace and comfort in the Freeman’s, and comes to care about them, not that she would ever admit that she does in fact have a heart. She is very much a tomboy and very protective of those she does allow close to her, think “Scout” from “To Kill a Mockingbird” meets “Louise Belcher” from “Bob’s Burgers.” Always ready for a fight and to prove herself, and danger prone. , it’s a wonder that she’s still around to even help the Freeman’s.

  • ( shrieking ) who the hell are you?

  • Oh, sorry, is that offensive? I don’t know “ghost culture”

  • I’d pat your shoulder but I’m afraid my hand would go right through you.
