(I'll be adding more roles as needed, so even if you audition for one thing, check back later to see if there are more roles available!)
This is a pilot episode for a potential abridged series based on the anime Accel World. For now this project will be only a PILOT episode, meaning that there is no guarantee that there will be any more episodes after the first one. If you audition however, you must be in it for the long run in case the idea gains traction and turns into an actual series. I'd appreciate it if as few roles (none preferably) have to be re-cast in order for future episodes to be made. Despite this being a pilot episode however, I would like it to have some quality to the work. As such, what you'll need in order to have your audition eligible is this:
- A unique voice.
This abridged series is meant to be different from the anime. This means that I'm screwing the rules and looking for funny, zany, weird, hilarious, and overall just fitting voices for each of the characters. Something that will fit the character's personality in the series rather than the original show. Bring your A game and your own personal flair with this, it's a must.
- A quality microphone.
Guys, I don't want to push out people based on this alone, I really don't, but if your audio sounds like *bleep* on a *bleep* sandwich, you won't be considered. Sorry but if you don't have a good mic (I have a blue snowball and they're not all that expensive) or at the very least know how to clean up your audio and make it sound decent, then you will not have even the slightest chance. Again I apologize and I know not everyone has a great mic, but nowadays audio can make or break a video.
- (OPTIONAL BUT PREFERRED) A general knowledge of the anime in question.
Alright, so this is more of a thing of convenience than a necessity, but it'll be easier to work with people who have knowledge of the anime. They know the characters, they know the story, and it's easier to keep up with what's going on that way. It also helps when you're doing the lines to give emotion (or maybe no emotion in some cases) to the dialogue to help it mesh well with everything that's going on, the other voice talent, etc. Again, this isn't a must-have, but it's a good thing all the same.
- Skype
I think almost everyone knows this, but you need to be easily reachable. I could end up changing lines on the fly if something isn't working, or I could tell you to play a minor character and make up a voice for them. Whatever the deal is, you need to be easily reachable on Skype. There will be two private groups made for people cast. One for socializing with other members, another for being professional and for discussing matters concerning the abridged series itself. All members who are cast will be allowed to pitch their own creative ideas involving their characters or scenes in which they are in to me, but I would like to stay as close to what I have in mind as possible.
- Professional attitude.
Don't get me wrong here, I want everyone to have fun and enjoy this, but if you've ever actually been a part of anything professional before, you should know what I mean. There are rules and practices in acting projects, and you need to know them. If you don't, let me make it real simple. Don't be a smartass when it's time to be serious. Be respectful of your fellow VAs and the Director (me). Don't waste time and don't be lazy. Take your role in the project seriously and don't half-ass anything. Most importantly of all, the Director has final say on everything to do with the project. If you don't like that, then you shouldn't have become a VA or Actor. This is how it works in the real world, you take direction from the director (hence the name). If you mouth off at me, or if you have differences that can't be settled and they have a negative effect on the rest of the team and the project itself, then I will cut you from the project, simple as that.
Last note: All roles can be auditioned for by either gender, I'm only labelling them by the gender of the individual characters. Go nuts, really, audition for all of them if you want. I'll be reviewing them all regularily. Also, if you could give multiple, differing samples for each line, that's a plus.
