Goop's World Original Novel Reading

Goop's World Original Novel Reading

Project Overview

Hello!

I am currently in progress in writing a comedy/fantasy novel entitled "Goop's World", set on in a medieval kingdom on an alien planet. I am currently toying with the concept of making an audiobook to go along with the physical copy, meaning I need voices.

The story follows Goop, Bing, and Draclo, three extraterrestrial friends who, after abandoning their hometown and searching for a new place to live, come across the Gooptar Kingdom, a medieval kingdom ruled by Princess Blossom. As the gang tries to get acclimated to their new surroundings, an evil threat rises up from right under their noses.

Only the first five chapters have been written, so if you want to do this, be prepared to be committed for the long haul as I send you lines for each chapter that is written. Some characters only have minor parts, so if you don't want to record that often, try one of those.

Unfortunately, I don't have enough funds to pay anyone, but anyone who participates will receive a free copy of the audiobook.

The main protagonist of the story, Goop is a rare purple Gooptar born once every 1,000 years. This gives him the ability to shape-shift (which he discovers later on in the story). He is a bit cocky, sarcastic, and impulsive, rarely thinking before doing, much to his friend Bing's chagrin. This often gets him in over his head in terms of trouble, as does his constant unwavering optimism. He and Bing are known to bicker like an old married couple all the time, but deep down they are close friends.

  • *somewhat exasperated and annoyed* When you're done hamming it up, Draclo and I are going to find some more desert lizards to fry up. Maybe we should set up camp for the night.

  • *panicking* Oh jeez, those swimming lessons I turned down as a kid would have come in real handy right about now!

  • *somber* As much as it hurts to say it, I’d actually welcome Bing’s nagging right about now. I hope he’s okay. *more optimistic* Hey, as far as I know, Bing built some crazy teleporter device and he and Draclo are back in Goopton, hanging out with Grindle and Crazy Jorge…*nostalgic* gosh, I miss Crazy Jorge.

Bing is the polar opposite of Goop, except for his sarcasm. This insufferable genius is a master inventor and a major nerd, and unlike Goop's impulsive nature, Bing is careful, overly cautious, and prefers to plan out his actions before doing anything. He is very pessimistic, wary of new situations and strangers, and constantly annoyed with his friends' antics. He shouldn't have the stereotypical high-pitched "nerd" voice. Something like Sheldon Cooper would be more preferred.

  • *sarcastically in an argument with Bing* My apologies, I completely forgot that you read at a negative third-grade level. Oh, wait, was ‘completely’ too big of a word for you to comprehend? What about ‘comprehend’? Was that one too big as well?

  • *sarcastically* Perfect, just perfect. Frankly, I’m surprised the canteen itself didn’t evaporate, but now we don’t have any water! *pause* *yelling to the sky* We’re all going to die out here!

  • *shaking with fear* I-I-I just needed one of y-y-your f-f-flowers for my friend Draclo. He’s hurt…

Draclo is a young wyvern who is Goop and Bing's best friend. Despite his rather large size, he is only 4 years old and thus is excitable, hyperactive, not too bright, and annoying as most children are. He is optimistic to the point where he rarely recognizes danger when it's right in front of his face, but his brute strength and flying abilities make him an invaluable member to the team. His voice should be high-pitched and somewhat annoying.

  • *excited* Draclo find firewood! Draclo do good?

  • *alerting his friends to danger* Goop! Bing! Watch out!

  • *excited* Draclo miss Goop so much!

Princess Blossom is the benevolent princess of the Gooptar Kingdom. While she does outwardly fit the mold of prim and proper girly princess, deep down she is somewhat crude, sarcastic, has a morbid sense of humor, and overall not very princess-y. The best way to put it is that she is a bit more overly casual and nonchalant than most princesses. She can also be a bit of a ditzy airhead from time to time.

  • *playfully scolding her guard* Go easy on the whole ‘good guard, bad guard’ routine, alright? Try to lean towards the ‘good guard’ side from now on.

  • I’m kidding, I’m kidding! *trying to hold back tears of laughter* Did you guys really think I was going to send him there immediately? I’m joking!

  • Oopsie! *embarrassed* Missed the throne again! Let's try again.

Tawnya is a no-nonsense treasure hunter with a love of adventure and all nature. Like Goop, she can be a bit impulsive, but not to the same degree. She has a love for extreme sports and facing danger head-on. However, she also has an inferiority complex due to her being a hybrid between a Gooptar and another species. She causes her to secretly feel like she doesn't belong amongst either species.

  • *low-key and somber* You have no idea what it's like...to know that no matter where you go, you won't be accepted by anyone. Sometimes nothing seems worth it.

  • You know how I like it! The most spikes, flames, and moving saw blades there are, the more exciting it is!

  • Hey! Nobody, and I mean nobody, touches that Gooptar except for me!

Marco is the definition of "cool grandpa." While he does have a serious side in times of need, he is usually a jovial, warm-hearted old man who is really a big kid at heart, loving to party and participate in all the cool slang the kids are using these days. Unfortunately, his abnormally old age is catching up to him, resulting in him occasionally forgetting names and words due to senility.

  • *boastfully* 282 years old! Plus six months, three weeks, and a day and a half, to be exact!

  • *shocked* Wait, you came from across the Slipsand Desert? We’ve never had someone come to the kingdom from across the desert!

  • So they’ve decided to stay, I see? It’s definitely the best choice you’ve made recently, I’m guessing. We live a pretty peaceful existence here in the Gooptar Kingdom.

Moki is one of King Grex's unfortunate lackeys. His small size and lack of arms (or talent) have led him to develop a large inferiority complex, which he masks with his enormous ego, viewing himself as the greatest evil henchman in the world. He is loud, obnoxious, and has a high-pitched voice, and he has a tendency to blame all of his failures on his cohort Shelldon, no matter how far he has to stretch to rationalize such a thing. His voice is very Invader Zim-like.

  • Genius, I tell you, genius! The king will have to promote us from lackey to flunky after this!

  • *angered* Shelldon, you stupid shell-for-brains! What do you mean you forgot to tie up the princess?

  • *frightened* L-look, Your Diabolicalness...it-it's just a minor setback!

Shelldon is Moki's partner-in-crime and accidental abuser. Shelldon is as dumb as they come; some say he fell out of the stupid tree, hit all the idiotic branches on the way down, and landed in a pool of dumb. He represents the phrase "ignorance is bliss"; his stupidity means that he is happy and dopey all the time and, despite his job as an evil henchman, harbors no ill will toward anyone. He views Moki as his best friend, even if the feeling isn't mutual. His voice is similar to Patrick Star.

  • *oblivious* Did you hear that fiery explosion heading right for us because I sure didn't?

  • Yessiree, Mr. King Boss Man Sir King! We got the princess just like you said!

  • Moki, my mama always said that hitting people is wrong! She also said "Shelldon, get your tongue off the stove!" She was really smart.

Norm is a sentient skeleton and the kingdom's resident sleazy con artist. He is always on the lookout for unwary suckers to swindle out of their hard-earned money and is always looking for the next get-rich-quick scheme and/or poorly-regulated business venture. He doesn't understand personal space very well and is always trying to smooth-talk people. His voice is similar to Kermit the Frog.

  • *snapping* Hey, I told your parents that the tents were another 200 Power Orbs extra! It was written down, plain and simple on the pamphlet they also had to buy.

  • This first story is called "Billy and the Sad Ghost." Once upon a time, there was a little Gooptar named Billy One day, Billy wandered into the woods to go to his grandma’s house and he was immediately attacked and eaten by a crocorock. And then he became a sad ghost. The end!

  • Come on, Gilbert! You’re just mad that I told you I was going to ban you from my fried chicken restaurant, Bones and Bawks! I needed those eleven herbs and spices!

Snaptrap is an enormous man-eating plant who lives in the Petunia Forest and plays a small role early in the story. He is an excitable, sarcastic, jive-talking man-eating plant with a love for 70s funk music and playing with his food. He is very full of himself and gets upset when he finds out people have never heard of him.

  • *boastful* I am the Big Guy. I am the most vivacious of vegetation, the most fantabulous of foliage, the most awesomazing of angiosperms! I am the one, the only, Snaptrap!

  • *boastful and irritated*  I am the head honcho here in these woods, and I don’t take kindly to chumps like you who think you can just waltz in and wake me up from my beauty sleep!

  • You guys got moxie, I’ll give ya that! Too bad I think moxie tastes delicious!
