GMod Trek - Episode 5: A Block and a Hard Place
Project Overview
This is episode 5 of GMod Trek, a machinima sci-fi/comedy series that is being published on YouTube. The premise is that there is a starship that travels through "server space" piloted by a crew of Garry's Mod players. The ship allows them to travel to various servers and even other games. Episodes are typically released in two or three 15-20 minute parts, and all characters may or may not be present in each part.
In this installment (Episode 5), the ship arrives at a Minecraft server, which is quite a culture shock from the GMod (Source Engine) environment the crew is used to. Once they get to the surface, they encounter more difficulties dealing with the locals as they search for supplies for their journey home.
If you are applying for a Voice Acting role, please:
- Have a reasonable microphone. There should be minimal background noise, good clarity, and good volume.
- Take constructive criticism. We sometimes host recording sessions so we can work back and forth and bounce ideas off each-other as we perform lines. We always keep these friendly and constructive, so keep your mind open to taking suggestions and adjusting your method for a character!
If you are applying for ANY role, please:
- Be active. When we cast you, we will ask you to join our Discord server, and that's how we will primarily communicate. Please be able to respond within 24 hours of us contacting you!
I welcome all role submissions before the due date, and we may close roles as we find people who are a good fit!
Please join our Discord server to chat with us or ask Docithe any questions you might have. The discord server is where we coordinate with cast and crew. It is not always very active, but everyone involved with the project is very attentive and will answer any questions you have or be available to help with your lines. The discord server is also where we post casting updates, and provide rooms for you to chat with fellow crew members and actors! https://discord.gg/Q5CDvad

Deadline has passed!
Hello everyone. We are overwhelmed with the number of auditions we've gotten for this episode - thank you all so much! We will be reviewing them this week and make casting decisions soon. We'll keep you posted.
Shayla is a strong spirited, risk taking member of an otherwise repressed community. They don't like to take risks and are walked all over as a result. She is eager to go out and take action against the villains but is always shot down by those in charge.
(Said urgently, but comedic - enemies are about to find them.) “Come with me if you want to live!... Is that too cliché?”
(After some newcomers get an unfriendly greeting.) “Don’t take it personally. Everyone here is paranoid about the guild finding us.”
(Informing a large group - coming up with a plan.) "One thing we do have is a large supply of TNT. It was used to hollow out the mountain this city is built under - and we still use it for mining. If we can plant it in the griefers’ base, we can take back what was stolen AND destroy their foothold here."
Vennos is the primary antagonist in the episode. He is out to cause chaos and grief and always puts himself first. I imagine this character always making his voice sound lower because he thinks he's cool, but feel free to put your own spin on it.
(Speaking to the leader of their group.) “No, sir. There are newcomers – travelers… in some sort of ship full to the brim with riches.”
(Speaking to some minions, who are a bit slow on the uptake.) “What are you waiting for, you idiots?! Follow him!!”
(Puzzling things out.) "They’ve never been so careless… I wonder what-… Something’s not right. You - with me! Now!”
This character is a henchman to one of the series' main antagonists. He is a loyal officer who would not disobey his captain, even though he suspects not all is as it seems. He chooses to stay in the dark, which makes him culpable.
This role may encompass more lines in future episodes, so if you audition please be willing to come back in the future for some lines. His character will likely be 100-200 words in future episodes (not a huge commitment).
(Reporting in to his superior officer.) “Captain, we followed your instructions and were able to establish the communications link you requested. It’s ready on channel 3.7.”
(Questioning some new orders he's received. He is hesitant, but would never disobey.) “Sir… does the Admiral know we’re going after him? Several of his crew are still commissioned officers.”
Mayor of a community in hiding, Reed likes to take the safe path whenever possible and doesn't appreciate surprises! Gets overwhelmed easily. (This role is open to men and women. If a woman is cast, we will modify the skin.)
(Encounters someone from his town that had run off.) "I’ve been looking for you! They told me you wandered off again. You know how I feel about you going off on your own like that!”
(When others describe a problem they're having.) “Now, hang on just a second - I’m afraid we won’t be able to help you with any of that."
(Responding to someone proposing a dangerous plan.) “No, no, it’s far too dangerous. We’re safe here! We can’t be going and causing a ruckus! Nothing that would make them start looking for us...”
This character is the leader of the group of enemies our main antagonist belongs to. We're looking for someone who can pull off some stilted, "I'm being more serious and dramatic than I need to be" vibes. A deeper voice would be ideal. I imagine this character being a bit monotonal, but feel free to add your own spin.
(Threatening the leader of an opposing group who is resisting their control.) "We destroyed you all once and we will NOT hesitate to do it again. You don’t have the backbone for this."
(Speaking to someone who reports to him.) "Organize a raiding party. We must retrieve everything we can. Dispose of them if necessary… If they are newcomers as you say, they will not be missed."
The guard takes their job seriously and makes sure the citizens of the community are safe!
(Seeing newcomers along w/ someone they are familiar with.) "Who are these people? You know how the mayor feels about strangers..."
The antagonists in this episode are just looking to cause trouble and mayhem for fun. They do not care about anyone else and just want to collect ill-gotten goods.
There are a few lines thrown in here and there for background roles on the antagonist side of things (belong to the same group as Vennos and Griefer Leader). Looking for some varied styles here, and will likely need to select 2-3 for a line or two each. Feel free to ad-lib lines or put your own spin on these characters!
(Reporting back to their superior.) "We thought we had them cornered, but they're gone!"
(Reacting to their prey putting up a good fight.) "There's more of them than we thought in there! Look, up on the wall!"
(After seeing that they are being invaded.) "Upstairs! Downstairs! They're everywhere! Where are they coming from?"
The villagers are oppressed people who just want peace. But now their time may be at hand, and there is a glimmer of hope!

(To a doctor, urgently.) “We have wounded! Can you help them?!”
(Determined after hearing a daring plan proposed.) "If we’re going to do this, I don’t want to run. Let’s show them who’s boss!"
