Genderbent Into the Woods Musical
Project Overview
This project is a cover of every song and possibly the script of Into The Woods, except every character's gender is switched. I will be voicing Little Red Riding Hood, which is why he is not listed. Have fun auditioning and please try to audition for as many people as possible, even the smaller parts, because someone has to do those! Thank you and good luck. -Quark

The Narrator is the character who tells the story. Although they technically lack a gender, I want them to be voiced by a girl, because most of the time it is a man who voices this character.
"Once upon a time...
In a far off kingdom...
Lived a fair gentleman...
A sad young lass...
A childless baker...
And her husband."
Sing 30+ seconds of the Narrator's part in Ever After
The Baker's house was cursed by a witch, keeping her and her husband from bearing children, which is their only wish. Her and her husband venture into the woods to find the four objects that will make the potion to lift the curse. She is stubborn and independent, but she loves her husband more than anything.

Sing 30+ seconds of the Baker's part in No More
The Baker's Husband wishes to have a child with his wife, and wants to help retrieve the four items required to make the potion. He isn't exactly satisfied with his marriage, which leads to him to have a brief affair with the Princess.

The Witch would normally be considered as the antagonist, but he is simply interested in his self-preservation. He placed a curse on the Baker's house to get revenge on the Baker's mother for stealing his beans.
Sing 30+ seconds of the Witch's rap-type-thing in Prologue ("Greens, greens, and nothing but greens...")
Sing 30+ seconds of the Witch's part in Last Midnight/Stay With Me
Cindereli is the male version of Cinderella. He wishes to go to the festival and not be left behind by the rest of his family. However, after meeting the princess, he runs away in fear of all the change that would ensue if he went with her.

Jane is a sad young lass who cares deeply for her cow, Milky White, which she was commanded to sell by her father. She steals gold, a gold-laying hen, and a beautiful harp from two married giants that live in the clouds.

Sing 30+ seconds of Jane's part in Giants in the Sky
Jane's father wishes for a lot of things. He lives alone with his daughter Jane, since his wife left, and tells his daughter to go to market and sell their cow Milky White. Jane's father is quick to react and is sometimes presumptuous, which eventually leads to his untimely death.
Sing 30+ seconds of Jane's Father's part from Prologue.
Cindereli's princess is determined to marry Cindereli after he runs away from her at the festival. However, even after she marries him, she still looks for new affairs to get herself into, including the Baker's husband.
Sing 30+ seconds of Cindereli's Princess' part from Agony
Rapunzel's princess plays a much smaller role in the play than Cindereli's princess, but they have a special bond (I think they're siblings? I'm not sure). She seeks the affections of Rapunzel, who minds himself by singing and taking care of his long hair in his tower. She gets blinded by the witch, but is healed by Rapunzel's tears.
Sing 30+ seconds of Rapunzel's Princess' part from Agony
Rapunzel is the boy that the witch took from the baker's mother in exchange for the beans that she stole. The witch acts as his father and keeps him in a tower. The witch gets into the tower by calling out to Rapunzel, asking him to let down his hair. This eventually gets the attention of a princess, who whisks Rapunzel away from the witch. He sings this one tune like all the time and it's a bit annoying at times but we still love him.
Sing Rapunzel's theme that he sings often. Do it either in your upper register or down in a bass range, like an opera singer.
Cindereli's stepfather is cruel and evil, but very handsome and rich. He forces Cindereli to act as a serf and doesn't allow him to go to the festival. Later, he cuts off part of his son's feet so that they can fit Cindereli's shoe and wed the princess, but he fails and he is blinded by birds.
Sing some of Cindereli's Stepfather's part from Prologue
They're evil but pretty moving on. I'll just find two people who voice these characters well and DM them so that I can do two roles in one, since they're practically the same. It doesn't matter which stepbrother you sing for.
Sing some of Cindereli's Stepbrothers' part from Prologue
The baker's mother was arguably responsible for the entirety of the play because she stole some of the witches beans in her hunger. The witch then stole her child, and she was thought by her daughter to be dead until the end of Act 1 (surprise surprise). She acts as a guide at some points, making sure that the Baker can get her wish of having a child. This character may also read for that person who follows the princess around.
Sing 30+ seconds of the Baker's Mother's part from No More
The wolf is a not-so-subtle metaphor for sexual predators and pedophiles. She attempts and succeeds in eating Little Red Riding Hood and his grandfather, but is killed. If readings of the script happen, this character may also read for the Giant.
Sing 30+ seconds of the Wolf's part from Hello Little Girl (Boy?)
I'd like this part to be sung like one of those basses in opera. Like, if you can go super low, go down there. Anyway, Cindereli's father died prior to the events of the play and now inhabits a tree that grew from his grave. He helps Cindereli get his wish of going to the festival by providing him with formal attire made from Tree Magic. I'll probably also have this actor read for Red's Grandfather.
