  • “Wait, what the hell are you doing here?” I blurted, my voice sharper than I intended as I stared at the figure on my doorstep.

  • Luke—my best friend’s younger brother—stood there, his duffel bag slung over one shoulder and a casual smirk playing on his lips. Except, this wasn’t the scrawny kid I remembered. No, he’d filled it out. Broad shoulders, an athletic build, and a confident stance made him seem every bit the college freshman ready to take on the world—and apparently, my apartment.

  • He tilted his head, clearly amused by my reaction. “Didn’t Rowan tell you? I’m moving in.” “What?” My mind reeled, my grip tightening on the doorframe. “No, he didn’t mention a thing.” Luke shrugged, stepping closer. “Classic Rowan. Anyway, I’m here now. Don’t look so freaked out—we’ll have fun.” He grinned, the kind of grin that probably got him out of trouble more often than not. Before I could protest, he brushed past me and walked into the apartment like he owned the place.
