Fugue's End: Grand Call

Fugue's End: Grand Call

Project Overview

Hello there, and welcome to the third casting call for Fugue's End. A turn based strategy game similar in nature to Fire Emblem. You can call me Raguna. I am the lead director, and writer for the project.

For this casting call's cover image, I decided to showcase a version of the main group's banner logo. As the title states, this is the grand call where the remaining characters without voices will be auditioned off with the sole exception of the main characters of the game who will be relegated for the final audition call. There will be approximately 22 roles up for grabs so give it your best shot.

Note: A lot of elements are still being worked on, and these images do not reflect the final product.

In Fugue's End, you play as runaway slaves called the Iron Wing who are evading capture from their pursuers, and the government forces wishing to reclaim them. In order to combat insurmountable odds, you must gather allies on your path to freedom, and eventually topple the very system that chained you.

Dialogue Scene: Dialogue in the game is conveyed through a visual novel style of back, and forth chatter. This is where you guys will shine.

The main themes of the work are freedom, and finding purpose through shared struggles. The map you see in the thumbnail is where the story will take place. Welcome to the continent of Caldera, a land of born out of a fragile peace between five nations. All five seek to achieve their ambitions, and some are willing to go to any depths to assert themselves as the predominant power of the land.

Chapter Battle Maps: This is a battle map. The characters with blue circles are your playable units, the ones in red are enemies, and those with green circles are non-playable allies. Permadeath does not exist in this game, but one wrong move could end up costing you.

Build bonds between companions, learn the stories of those that fight side by side with you, and you will see those connections grow. Some bonds deepen in eternal friendship while others sprout the first pangs of romance. As time passes, your retinue of allies will become quite the lively bunch.

Map Exploration: Before some battles, the player is allowed to explore the map, and learn valuable information. Explore well, and you may find some powerful items for the battles ahead.

Always ensure you're well prepared for the challenges ahead. An army without any weapons are ripe for exploitations by those who carry both whip, and chain.

Combat Overview: Combat is turn-based with the player acting first during their phase, and once all their units have moved the enemy gets their turn. When a character initiates combat, they will fight, inflicting, or sustaining damage based on their stats, skills, and equipment.

For this casting call, I'm looking to recruit several voice actors to add to the roster. All skill levels are welcome, and further instructions for each character specifically will be found in their description blurb. I only ask that you have good mic quality, and can work in a quiet room. Should we all be satisfied with the process, and working conditions, you'd also secure these roles for the game's full release. I'd also be happy to answer any questions you might have over the project either through direct message here or through discord.

I will not hire anyone below the age of 18. This project does not endorse the use of AI.

Without further ado, I present some of the cast:

Lutz Tromos is a playable character in Fugue's End. A former outlaw, he targets foes from the shadows with his trusty crossbow in hand.

Lutz grew up in a remote village in the mountainside of Welkin. Unlike his companions, he was very reserved, and introverted rarely leaving his home except when he was forced to or when aiding during the local hunts. This made him very few friends except for one Cornelius, who pestered him endlessly to go on random adventures across the entire mountain. It was a fun, quaint living.

Eventually, Lutz decided to leave the mountain and find work in the city. He tried to find legitimate work, but after his friend Cornelius, and his parents fell gravely ill, he joined the wrong crowd to pay for their medical expenses. He met Jie Avesna, and became a proficient smuggler of goods, and people, and managed a steady busy for several years until he got injured in the leg, and wasn't able to adeptly work as he did before. The wound healed, but he gained a bad limp out of it nicknaming him the Shambler.

That break did him good though. In all the time he worked, he never truly internalized that both his parents, and Cornelius died years ago. There was nothing left to work for, to strive for, and he was left empty. Maybe he grew a conscious there, but he decided before death to try and do some good so when the Iron Wing came for aid, he offered it wholeheartedly.

Lutz is very much meant to sound like Solid Snake. If you can make a very gravelly voice capable of emulating that performance, you'll be among my picks. It doesn't have to be an exact match to intonation. Do your own spin. Mainly he just needs to sound like he smoked a fair few cigars and drank a lot of alcohol in his life. The voice of a broken man trying to do what's right.

Yverna is a playable character in Fugue's End. She's an archer who speaks little, but can always be relied upon.

Yverna's life could be described as neglected. Despite being the only daughter to a blacksmith, and a leatherworker, she wasn't really cared for outside of being fed. She wasn't educated, she wasn't coddled, and in many ways once she was old enough to fend for herself that's exactly what she was forced to do. It was only thanks to the help of a traveling hunter that she survived her initial journey into childhood and learned her archery skills.

This lack of socialization and education stunted her immensely to the point she struggles understanding social cues, but through some miracle she became a laid-back cheerful gal with a love for reading and writing even if what she wrote was hard to understand. Her life only truly turned around when a teacher by the name of Sevkin saw her potential and asked her to travel the world with him. Intrigued she said yes, and the two have been inseparable friends for years bringing out the best out of each other.

A popular character reference for the way she talks, and acts is very similar to the character Frieren from Frieren's End. She speaks somewhat slowly, and can understand scenarios relatively well, but takes a while to process small cues, and internalize them. She also tends to be speak in very short sentences as you'll see below.

Ohala Hassan is a playable character in Fugue's End. She is a mounted horse archer with an design inspired by the people of the steppes mainly Turkic and Mongolian people.

Ohala is a lady of the steppes who was raised by her clan, the Hassan. They are a local power in the Fereshten steppes with significant influence, but they are known primarily for their skill in capturing, and selling slaves particularly young women as brides. During a chance encounter with one of the slave brides they were about to sell, she began to empathize with her plight as she taught her about her own culture, and world. How insular, and backwater this all felt began to claw into her until it reached a breaking point.

Her desire to see the world, and her alienation of the practices, and costums of her people eventually proved too much, and one day without saying a word, she vanished into the night in search for something she herself does not truly understand. She begins her life as a mercenary to survive until she learns what she really wants from her life.

Ohala is a fish out of water type character. She is aloof, and hesitant, scared or worried about a world she doesn't quite understand, and someone who falls back on the same customs, and thoughts she was raised with because that's all she knows.

For her, I would say if you also come from an immigrant background, let me know. It won't ensure you'll gain the role, but I believe it will definitely help you better play this character.

Lavinia Mignonnette is a playable character in Fugue's End. She is a mage specializing in light and healing magic.

Lavinia Mignonnette is an unfortunate soul. She was born to a high noble house as a bastard child, and her kind nature made her become the target of ridicule, and abuse by her family, and noble society at large. She was clumsy, uncoordinated, and very often too quiet to really stand up for herself. She would often hide away in the library of their mansion, and read to pass the time, and forget about everything around her.

Her life drastically changed however when three things happened to her. Her older sister Wysteria eventually usurped their father, and gave her freedom to do as she pleased with an estate they had in Welkin. There she met the love of her life, Galliard, who she rescued from slavery. Grateful for both of them for turning her life around for the better, but the third change was not so fortunate.

During her hardships, she turned to the Lilac Saint for salvation, and manipulated by her desires, and whims, she ultimately became indoctrinated by her, and inadvertently caused the imprisonment of the two people she cared about most in the world. She's desperately trying to make amends for her mistake by keeping them safe as much as she can.

Lavinia is a shy girl reminscient of characters like Hinata from Naruto. They can cower easily in social situations, but when it comes time to fight she won't allow any of her friends to be hurt. She's soft-spoken, very demure, and quite naive, but these qualities also endear her to those that know she is extremely honest, and isn't the type to hurt anyone without good reason.

Sasha Balaika is a noticeable side character you meet in the story, and joins your base. She is a Demas, a character with black sclera persecuted, and distruted by many. They lack the ability to use magic, but in exchange they are extremely resistant to all magical attacks.

Sasha is a hardy mercenary from the nation of Ustanak. She grew up with nothing, and led a life of incredible violence since the very beginning simply to survive in the frozen wasteland she was born into. Every time the Ustanaki warlords vied for power, she was always there scraping by from the spoils, but a person can only handle so much bloodshed before they either become beasts themselves or completely shutdown.

Sasha shut down.

She was rescued by a priest called Regulus, and after a few years of dicey teamwork, the two fell in love, and settled to raise their kid together with the care neither received as in their own lives. They succeeded in a way neither thought possible, and now spend their days living in a nearby village as hunters. That is until the day their village is raided, and they take up arms to defend themselves with the help of the Iron Wing.

Sasha is an older woman who has a hard time being honest with people about her feeling, but she isn't shy about telling things as they are. She's a tad grouchy, and very easy to anger, but time and love have cooled her down so she can see when she's at fault. Ashanti Dholen is a noticeable side character you meet in the story.

The foreign born Ashanti Dholen is a woman of magnanimity and exuberant charm, and the mayor of the small sea side village of Sabanera in Aliento. Due to her upbringing in the high courts of Ustanak, she can often clash with the general culture who sees no sense in the concept of nobility, but in her own way she has won the hearts of many due to her charitable work, and leading by example. A patron of the fine arts, she is a very classy and entertaining woman.

Behind the theatrics, Ashanti comes from a 30 year old storied career as a senator in Alientan politics. Known as "Dolores" for the ways she made other beg for mercy, she was an expert blackmailer, and to this day holds many of the current political class hostage. It was this leverage and expertise which allowed her to carve her own space in the xenophobic Aliento, and gave her the opportunity to build a safe home for the foreign-born and the children of mixed-race couples.

Ashanti is made to be played as a typical ojou-sama seen in anime. Very exuberant and to a point vain, but kind-hearted in her approach to those that need help, and deadly against those who try to swindle her and her people.

Binah is an enemy boss character fought in the game.

Binah is a woman of duality. Beautiful, and pristine, you'd believe her a cleric or healer, but with sword in hand she delivers only death on the battlefield with a smile. You'd believe for a higher calling, but she has no faith in the god's, for she herself is the epitome of divinity. She relishes the field of combat because that is where she feels most alive for do not let her pristine grace fool you, she is more monster than she is anything resembling a human.

Binah is a Cherub, a race predominantly from Aliento who resemble the standard interpretation of angels, who works for the Alientan army. Almost all people in Aliento are capable of sprouting wings, but only very few grow a third eye and halo. In essence her character can be described as a bloodlusted demon disguised as an angel.

Binah speaks softly and somewhat flirtatiously. She finds pleasure in corrupting others or leading them down her bloody path. She gauges the worth of others in how useful they'd be for her enjoyment, and the more fascinated she becomes with someone the more attached she becomes, but more her and she might just leave you or worse kill you herself.

She's based of a variation of the yandere archetype commonly seen in some anime or games and psychopathic tendencies. Obsessive characters who will resort to extreme violence in order to be satisfied.

Faldi is an enemy boss character fought in the game.

Faldi, the Fairy Queen, is an infamous bounty hunter and pirate known for prowling the southern seas in search of people to enslave. More notoriously, she is known for her propensity for enslaving children in particular and selling them off to the highest bidder after abusing of them in any way she feels works.

Originally a child slave herself, she eventually comandeered her own ship after leading a successful revolt of her fellow peers, but instead of committing to good, she became rotten. She's an inverse of the story of Peter Pan, and grew up to be just as rotten or worse than the people she was enslaved by continueing the cycle of grief, and misery.

Faldi is a woman filled with bravado, but is ultimately as self-serving as Jolly Roger. She wants to gain enough money to escape into high society, but is always one job short of the mark. This constant struggle between achieving her ideal life and her reality has caused her to become desperate as she's now turning 40 and the bounty on her own head keeps increasing which prompts her to take on the main cast so the Lilac Saint can finally give her the retirement she desires.

She is abrasive, and opportunistic. Her voice can come across similar to what could be described as a stereotypical Karen or Ellen Degeneres. Likes to talk, demean others, abuse them, all to make herself look better than everyone else. Very mean-spirited as a person and extreme bully to boot.

  • I hear you guys got a bounty on your heads so why don't you make it easy on me, and tie this rope on yourselves. Struggling will just make everything worse.

  • The younger the kid, the easier they are to sell. More compact, more pliable to whatever master wants of them and very obedient to boot.

Jie Avesna is an enemy boss character fought in the game.

Jie Avesna is one of the remnant people of what was once the country of Tianxu, but unlike many of her people, she could honestly care less about the country that died all that time ago. Her main focus was to herself and her own pursuits in the realm of medicine. Joining a shadowy cabal of smugglers and traffickers, she gave her services to both enrich herself and further her own goals.

Besides that only two things are truly known about her. She desires in some way to reclaim her youth. Many of her poisons are byproducts of her search for immortality that proved useless for her, but useful to make ends meet. She aligns with the Lilac Saint after believing her promise of granting her eternal life. The second thing that is known, but mainly to the party is that she is the former lover of Lutz, who worked in the same organization.

Unlike Lutz, Jie does not regret anything she did. She doesn't believe herself innocent, but doesn't see people or the concept of life as inherently worth preserving outside her own.

Despite Jie coming from the equivalent of the Far East, she isn't someone who has a noticeable accent from that area as she tries to blend in with the people around her. The voice actress can choose if they want to include one, but can also use their more natural tone for her. Generally her tone is dismissive, or deliberate not really humoring much of anything or anyone. Primarily goal oriented to achieving eternal youth, she doesn't much care about anything else.

She won't admit it, but she does still hold a flame for Lutz, but she'll never change to redeem herself. She'll only accept Lutz if he turns to the shadows to stay with her rather than improve herself.

  • The Lilac Saint has promised me the fountain of youth. I'm not so foolish to believe she'll give a non-believer such a boon, but it won't hurt to see it for myself. If I learn how it's made, I can simply make it myself.

Specializing in the kidnapping, and murder of children, she is the one who tends to get sent when the church needs to make an example to high-priority target families. You'd think someone of her description would be nothing, but an unrepentant killer, but that isn't how she sees herself.

In contrast to her macabre job description, Lady Vertena is the epitome of elegance, and grace. She speaks in a motherly tone, and enjoys spending time in the company of those that need her advice, and guidance. She is very willing to share what she knows, and eager to help, but she is at her core ultimately a deranged and broken individual.

Lady Vertena came from abusive childhood, and lost her only son during birth. She eliminates children out of some twisted perception that those she kill will become her lost child's friends. This is not meant to show sympathy for her, but explains in part some of her actions.

As stated earlier, she should have a very earnest, and motherly voice. The ones you'd typically associate with doting older women or older sister type characters. She rarely gets mad, and is always prim, and proper even under extreme duress. If there was anyone she'd kill out of hatred, it'd Faldi above.

This protection by their government has allowed him to roam around doing whatever he pleased, and he has only become more emboldened in recent years to strike further inland to attain even more wealth.

Originally, the man wasn't so completely abject to morals, and decency. He used to be a naval instructor at a prestigious military academy until they found him sleeping with various students. This lose him his position and forced him into banditry, but with how corrupt Aliento had become he found his new life a boon. He has never been more free to do as he pleases as his latest raid will bring him face to face with the main party.

Bruma uses a hearty standard pirate accent, and brings a lot of energy to any scene he's in. Generally speaking, the man is a bastard and doesn't care about things like loyalty. He isn't an idiot either, he knows when he's being played and when he starts explaining something it's only because he truly believes he has the upper hand on you. He's a slimy bastard who takes advantage of others as easy as he breathes so lean into that if you'd like.

In public, she is charismatic, strong and witty, with nary a scratch on her public image, but those who know her behind closed doors are afraid of what she'll do as leader of the country.

Vidal is a war hawk eager to claim territory and glory from her neighbor Welkin, and is willing to sacrifice anyone she deems expendable to do so. She is also a stout believer of the Alientan people's "purity" and detests when people outside of that "taint' their bloodline and create what she denotes as half-breeds.

Vidal is based of tyrants and dictators mainly seen in Latin American history. Charismatic, but ultimately self-serving that destroy their countries by scapegoating the problems to external issues. Vidal is a coward, but presents herself as a strongwoman never allowing her image as a popular generous person break.

They lack the speed of their female counterpart, but make up for it by their increased strength, and endurance. If this cavalier has reached you, then prepare for a long skirmish because the fighting has only just begun.

The Male cavalier is meant to sound sort of like an idealized cowboy. He's a free spirit, but believes that the law should be respected when it doesn't conflict with a person's desire for freedom and justice.

The classic pinnacle of what it means to be a knight. Gallant, Strong and swift like the wind, the female cavalier is the first to charge into battle, and tear the battlefield apart before running back to commence the fight anew. Unless you hold your own pair of wings, they'll catch you soon enough.

The female cavalier is meant to evoke a classic female knight. Her inspiration can be the character of Artoria from Fate Stay Knight or the common Joan of Arc. You're free to give her a French accent if you're feeling confident as well.

The erratically devout priestess are the most zealous of the Lilac Saint's followers. They are known to fall into a frenzy and obey all her commands without a hint of hesitation. When they are not fervently following her whims, they're known for being among the kindest, and most charitable people one knows.

They fit the crazy preacher archetype found in more horror-esque genres. They're slightly insane, but their insanity is tied to devotion being led astray. If the Lilac Saint wasn't the main villain, they'd easily be among the kindnest

The ever cheerful healer always seeming chipper to an almost deranged extent. Most hold some sort of religious belief, but a rare few subscribe to no god.

He is meant to be played as a unnerving, sardonic but ultimately benevolent person. Imagine your standard mad doctor type. While not a doctor, a close comparison to who he is similar to is Hazama from Blazblue, but if he wasn't actually a piece of crap.

  • Some say the goddess heals all wounds, and I say I certainly hope so. If she can't do it, I'm going have to amputate your leg.

  • Oh, what does that make this? Your second or third visit? You must really enjoy being in the infirmary.

  • Why I became a cleric? Easy, because I love people at their best, and at their worst.
