Friends With a Monster | YouTube Series

Friends With a Monster | YouTube Series

Project Overview

The "Friends with a Monster" adaptation is a 2D-animated YouTube series based on the acclaimed comic by Suski, a well-known artist with a strong following on DeviantArt and Instagram. This adaptation aims to bring Suski's compelling story and characters to life in a new medium, maintaining the core essence of the original narrative while expanding it through rich visuals and sound design.

This project is an official collaboration with Katariina Ahtonen (Suski), who is deeply involved as co-director alongside our production team. It is a non-profit venture, focusing on creative expression and the faithful adaptation of Suski’s unique storytelling. The series will be freely available on YouTube, with a focus on engaging the community of fans that have grown around Suski’s work.

Storyline & Characters:

The adaptation begins with a focus on two central characters, Saga and Shima, who are well known to fans of the original comic. The series delves into their evolving friendship, exploring themes like self-discovery, acceptance, and the unlikely bonds that form in dark and mysterious times.

Future episodes and seasons will gradually introduce additional characters from Suski's comic, expanding the universe while allowing for deeper character development.

Production Quality:

Our commitment to quality is central to this adaptation. Every aspect of the production aims to meet high professional standards, ensuring an engaging experience for viewers. Key elements include:

- Audio Quality: All voice actors are required to use professional-grade equipment or high-quality phone recordings. Each recording will be thoroughly reviewed to ensure clarity and eliminate background noise, providing an immersive audio experience. The voice performances will reflect the depth and range of the characters' emotions, aligning closely with the tone of the comic.

- Visual Quality: The animation will retain the essence of Suski's original art style, enhanced for animation. By blending hand-drawn techniques with digital methods, the series aims to capture the subtle emotional expressions and atmospheric settings of the comic. Our goal is to translate the visual beauty of Suski's work into a dynamic format, creating an experience that feels both true to the source material and visually engaging.

- Creative Freedom: While we remain faithful to Suski’s original vision, the adaptation also allows room for creative input from the team. The collaborative process with Suski ensures that the adaptation remains true to the themes and style of the comic while exploring new dimensions that animation can offer.

Future Opportunities:

While the series is initially a non-profit project distributed on YouTube, we are also in discussions with Suski about potential future opportunities. Should the series gain significant success and a strong fanbase, we aim to make it available for purchase on Amazon Prime, it's not official yet. This would allow us to reach a broader audience and provide fans with an opportunity to enjoy the series on a more expansive platform, while still remaining accessible to those who discovered it during its free release.

The "Friends with a Monster" adaptation is a passion project that aims to celebrate and expand upon Suski's original creation. By blending professional production quality, faithful storytelling, and a community-focused approach, we seek to create an adaptation that honors the spirit of the comic while offering a new and immersive experience for fans. Our hope is that this series will become a meaningful extension of Suski’s world, resonating with both long-time followers and new viewers, and opening the door to future possibilities.
