Flickering Stars Casting Wave 2: Supporting and Minor Characters
Project Overview
Welcome to the second wave of casting calls for Flickering Stars. This one will include more supporting characters. These are the Antagonist named Moon’s Rise, Song of Shadow’s sister named Briar of Clouds, a major supporting role named Muddy Fire, and the two characters who have their own subplot, Lightning’s Whisper and Swimming Claws.
If you’d like to audition for one of the leading characters, head over to the wave one casting call here: https://www.castingcall.club/projects/flickering-stars-wave-one-casting-main-characters-and-major-supporting
For those of you who haven’t seen the first casting call for this series, Flickering Stars is an upcoming two-dimensional animated webseries featuring magical cats who live in the woods. These cats are sorted into four divisions based off of their magic’s elemental affinity. There are the Flame Sprinters that do fire magic, the Splash Hunters that do water magic, the Wind Chasers that do wind magic, and the Earth Stalkers that do earth magic. There is also a fifth division called the Star Path Travelers, who learn to heal cats and read the stars. If a Star Path Traveler is chosen, they could become the next Star Reader, who is the overall leader of the divisions.
The deadline is a couple years into the future so that I have time to finish up some of my current projects and write episodes for this one so work on production can be done immediately after getting a full cast.
I will be a core animator for this series, but I will call for more animators later on in the casting process.
|| What do I ask of you? ||
- Have fun! This is supposed to be an enjoyable experience, after all.
- Be willing and able to stick to this project long-term. Animated series take a long time to make, and it will definitely help to have voice actors and crew who will stay.
- If you’re on the team, you will have access to spoilers for the story. Please don’t spoil stuff for the people who don’t have such access.
- You do not need discord. As long as you check your project chats and notifications, you’ll be able to communicate with the rest of the team.

- Major-ish Minor Character
- Wind Chaser, Whisker
- Sister is Song of Shadow, Brother is Swimming Claws. Best friend is Stepping Coyote. Has a crush on Sneezing Hare. Briar of Clouds has been paralyzed in one leg since she got a snake bite as a kitten, but she’s not going to let that stop her. She is aware of Song of Shadow’s efforts to heal her leg completely and is grateful for that, but she kind of likes the challenge offered to her by her leg. Some call her strange for that, but she likes finding creative solutions to match or even surpass the capabilities of the rest of the Wind Chasers.
- Voice Pitch: Middle to Middle High. Briar of Clouds sounds gentle, but she has an energy to her that outshines many of the other Wind Chasers.
(Grateful/Loving) Thanks, Song of Shadow. But you know I’ll be happy regardless of whether or not you heal my leg.
What do you mean? Of course I’ll enter the race. I love a challenge!
- Supporting Character
- Flame Sprinter, Starts as Whisker, comes in kinda late in the series
- Son of Hawk’s Rose and Singing Thorn. Muddy Fire is one of the few cats whose magic is not the same as his parents. All his life, other cats have been convinced that Muddy Fire’s magic is not as strong as that of the other Flame Sprinters, and Muddy Fire is not quite sure that’s true. At least, he’s pretty sure that his magical powers are about average. Maybe he just puts in more effort than most? He looks up to Hopping Rabbit.
- Voice Pitch: Middle-High to High pitched. Muddy Fire’s voice is that of a young teenager or an older child (Like a tween). He is enthusiastic, which should show in his voice.
(Excited, recounting events quickly) And Moon’s Rise was like “Water will stop them,” but you were like “No!” And then you went “Whoosh” and the water was gone!
(Admiring) Stars, I wish I was that powerful.
(Glum) The mages keep saying that I never will be. Neither of my parents are Flame Sprinters.
- A Major Antagonistic Character
- The Star Reader
- Moon’s Rise, like Mouse’s Moon, suffers from the effects of a Flickering Star. However, Moon’s Rise has learned to live with it a bit more... or so she thinks. Over the years, Moon’s Rise’s flickering star has made some alterations to her judgement. Her empathy has faded, and she is slowly losing her mental grasp on reality. Moon’s Rise ends up being sort of an antagonist, and her talents in all of the elements make her a formidable opponent.
- Voice Pitch: Middle-Deep to Deep while still remaining believably female. If Moon’s Rise does have an accent, it’s probably British or English. I definitely imagine her sounding like the Lord of the Rings elf queen, but if that’s not possible, I’ll figure out what I like best in the auditions.
(Encouraging) I see great things in you, Mouse’s Moon. Perhaps you will follow in my footsteps.
(Warning) Your star holds great power, yes. But this power causes it to spark and flicker, making nights miserable for me and you.
(Kind) I will teach you to deal with the star. I have the same predicament.
- Supporting Character
- Splash Hunter, Whisker
- Best Friends are Frosted Stag and Sneezing Hare. He has feelings for the Flame Sprinter, Lightning’s Whisper. He and Lightning’s Whisper meet every night when Lightning can get away from training. Both cats know that it’s against the rules to be together, and plan to leave their divisions to be Vagabonds out in the world. Having more friends in the Divisions, Swimming Claws wants to gather a small group of cats to come with them, but Lightning’s Whisper just wants the two of them to leave. This is a conflict of interests. Overall, Swimming Claws is outgoing, friendly, and generally chill. He can be afraid of change/commitment.
- Voice Pitch: Middle to Middle-deep, while still remaining believably teenage. Swimming Claws sounds like your average teenage male human being. Think Austin from Austin and Ally. You will not have to sing, though.
(Excited) Yeah! That’s a great idea! I bet Frosted Stag or Sneezing Hare will come along, too!
(Nervous) But… all on our own? Are you sure, Lightning’s Whisper?
(Surprised) Of course I’ll go! It’s just… (Decisive) Yes, I’ll go. No more questions from me.
- Minor Character
- Flame Sprinter, Whisker
- Brother is Singing Pine. In love with Swimming Claws. Lightning’s Whisper is the most willing to leave the divisions behind, for she feels even more socially awkward than the other Flame Sprinters. Lightning’s Whisper is a little annoyed that Swimming Claws wants to bring along more cats and keeps stalling their departure. Shouldn’t she be enough for him? And why is he stalling? They’ll have titles soon, and then they won’t be able to leave in peace. The Divisions will hunt them down and bring them back. Swimming Claws has to make up his mind, or Lightning’s Whisper might leave without him, even though she knows it would break both of their hearts.
- Voice Pitch: Middle to Middle-High. Lightning’s Whisper speaks quietly, but with purpose. She’s a cat of few words, but she says what she means. I do not have an example for this one.
(Irritated) You’re stalling, Swimming Claws.
(Desperate) We have to go. We can’t get our titles and then run away!
(Somber) Swimming Claws, I’m leaving. I can’t stay here… even for you. I’m sorry.
