Fleshbound [+17 horror narrative podcast: looking for VAs and Audio editor]
Project Overview
What if I told you, you can use the remains of the dead to send ghosts out of the real world? Through either becoming the killer of the ghost or finally giving them peace in the afterlife, is it worth it to bear that burden? Welcome to Fleshbound, a horror-based audio narrative podcast about self-discovery and the side effects of repressed trauma!
Fleshbound takes place following a woman by the name of Dahlia Fadel, a doctor-in-training in her final year to become a general surgeon( doing surgical residency). She lives in a shared flat with three other women: Mia, Yuna, and Connie. Mia is the youngest at the age of 19, She is an aspiring ghost hunter and online entertainer/influencer with parents who are willing to pay for her whims. She brought her flatmates together as her recording group; the channel is successful enough to pay for the rent and salaries of her group. She and Yuna have known each other the longest, have gone to school together, and have stuck together to record these videos. Connie is an editor who applied to help with the videos, so Mia offered for her to live in the flat to make it easier. The three girls were looking for a new flatmate since revenue wasn’t holding up enough to balance the payment of a cameraman and living expenses. Dahlia applied due to it being near her residency training. She wasn’t initially told about what they all did but was soon coerced into making the videos. The start of the story takes place a few weeks after Dahlia freshly moved in. But Dahlia, as much as she claims not to believe in ghosts, is nothing like what she seems.
Extra Description
About me and my project:
For starters, thank you so much for taking an interest in helping out with this project! I’ve always been a big fan of horror and high fantasy media, which eventually led me down my path of creating projects such as this one. This is a multi-year project in the making, and I finally got around to starting to produce it. I am the lead writer and artist for this project and will be calling all the major shots. I already have a lovely team of writing editors, a musician, and other artists helping me out! Your talent is the most crucial thing to this project! This is the first call I will be posting, and I will likely post more in the future, so if you aren't chosen for this one, don't hesitate to apply for a new role!
Rights:
Never at any point will your voice be used for AI or anything you did not explicitly consent to. Your autonomy as a performer/creator matters to me, so please communicate any possible concerns, and I will further go into detail.
Warnings:
This story heavily features horror elements such as body horror, kidnapping, death/murder, gore, drug use/mentions, abuse, etc. I am willing to draw back certain topics to make the voice acting experience more comfortable, but some things are non-negotiable. Please communicate any issues you have, and I will always be willing to listen.
This story also features LGBT+ and other inclusive material and will not be removed unless deemed “offensive”.
Requirements:
The recording must be on a high-quality mic with little to no noise in the background during takes. There is no minimum required amount of experience as long as you fit the needs of the role you are applying for.
APPLY TO AS MANY AS YOU LIKE!!
If you have any questions, feel free to message me on Casting call or Discord (corvidclowns)!
When you are logged in, you can comment, add submissions, create projects, upvote, search open roles, and way more. Login here.
The MVP behind the scenes!
This role is the most critical one, so if you’re up for the challenge, I’m happy to have you aboard! I am still learning how to do audio editing, so you will have full control of how the audio will go. Use any software that is most comfortable for you, and no minimum experience is required!
Pipeline:
I will send you a script, a more in-depth description of the scene, and a general idea of what major sounds should be heard. I will personally handle all the directing of VAs and music, so if there’s ever an issue with anything given, I will try my best to have it fixed as soon as possible. Once you send me the raw edit, I’ll listen to it and give any feedback! Once the episode is finished, I will personally upload the finished product.
Audition:
Your audition is different from the VAs. Send in a demo of the audio(s) you’ve edited with the context of what is happening. If you want a sample scene, if you don’t already have one, or just want something new, feel free to reach out, and I’ll send you what I can. If you’re also a VA, feel free to apply for a role as well!

*Say something you think would fit*
Main character/Female/ Arab who grew up in America her whole life/ 25 y/o
Types of Speaking
Normal: Deep, modulated, and sounds sophisticated. She comes off as judgmental and skeptical of everything, despite not always meaning it. She is most emotional like this and is almost pathetic when afraid. She swears sparingly because she believes there’s more effective language to be used.
Narrator:
Her voice is almost airy and dream-like. It is devoid of all emotion when reading, regardless of what it is. There should be a noticeable difference from her normal voice.
Generalize:
Dahlia is a very educated woman who grew up faster than any of her peers due to her success and hard work. She comes from an immigrant household, which, due to conflicts, eventually led to her being estranged from them. She struggles to have healthy relationships(romantic or platonic) and often prefers to be alone and holds herself to a higher standard than most, which further complicates her life. Her morals are very skewed, but she often believes what she is doing is always the right answer. She can be very hypocritical at times and is somewhat of an unreliable narrator.
Notes:
Long talking periods- Dahlia talks for a very long time and tends to ramble. Since she is the main character, be prepared to talk plenty.
Unorthodox language- Dahlia is in the medical field, so she will use medical terms often, which means complex pronunciations and more methodical speaking. Not to mention, when she reads from her book, there will be lots of old language being used.
Fighting- she does get into a lot of physical altercations with other characters, so be prepared to yell and sound like you’re in pain.

[little weary]The glass vase on the table had just flung itself into the wall…For my sanity, I will ignore that.
[sounds annoyed but still perfessional] Without further ado, I will introduce myself. I am Doctor Dahlia Fadel, I am 25 years old and currently in my last year of residency until I’ve completed my schooling for my position as a general surgeon. I completed my primary schooling at the age of 12. Then, I was my class’s salutatorian from the University of Virginia.
[a sense of eeriness in a narrator-like voice]They hid his body in a crate so no one would suspect anything of them. They delivered the inebriated man to his address. The fool believed that they had good intentions for him. They dug for his keys and unlocked the door.
Secondary main character/Female/White-Japanese(American)/ 22 y/o
Type of speaking:
Raspy and sharp. Yuna always sounds a little pissed off and slurs her words from time to time. It never seems like she thinks before she speaks, which often gets her into altercations.
Generalize:
Yuna is what is considered by most characters “trailer park trash”/“white trash”. She grew up in a very hostile environment and naturally picked up rude qualities from it. She’s very quick to criticize others and doesn’t hold back when talking to anyone. She struggles to pick up new things and ends up dropping out of high school due to needing to pay for her life. Despite her nature, it doesn’t always mean she wishes the worst for everyone
Notes:
Yelling- Yuna is the type to yell a lot, so if you aren’t in an environment suited to do that, I don’t recommend auditioning for her.
Fighting- Yuna is going to get into altercations with other characters and environments, so be prepared to make lots of fighting/ struggling sounds. She is the one to often starts them.

[kinda akward] One time Connie kept beating me in racing games, sooo I decided to mess with her by turning the gain all the way. On the camera. BUT..it was just for one recording and I forgot to fix it. That was like- two months ago.
[aggressive but not shouting] Hey, Dahlia? Can you shut up? This is our job, just because you get a comfy and clean one doesn’t mean you get to give us problems.
[sarcastic] You’re not as cool as you think for leaning against the wall to sleep.
Secondary main character/Female/Filipino(American)/19 y/o
Type of speaking:
Bubbly and kind. Mia naturally has a more innocent and higher-pitched voice. Naturally, that tone isn’t squeaky.
Generalize:
Mia grew up with wealthy parents and never experienced a major heartache in her life. Despite her upbringing, she is still very kind and considerate of others. She loves the paranormal concept because of her mother’s stories from when she was a kid. She’s very forgiving but can put her foot down when needed.
Notes:
None- Mia doesn’t have any major issues that need to be brought up

[excited explanation] Well, we need more exclusives- and you don’t exactly like being on camera- so naturally audio. It would work best for you!
[curious to disturbed] Wow, so they did question it but they couldn’t find the baby until three days later… in the family dog’s poop.
[happy but worried] Dahlia! There you are, we've been calling for you for hours! I thought something happened or you were really upset about Yuna, I know she can be a bit much at times but she means well I swear.
Secondary main character/female(trans-fem)/white(American)/21 y/o
Type of speaking:
Soft and nerdy. Connie is the most emotional out of all the girls and is most expressive with her voice. She is almost cartoonish in how she expresses herself and prefers to be silly most of the time
Generalize:
Connie is introverted for the most part. She spends most of her time scrolling the internet, making music, editing for their channel, or studying for college exams. She is also on the medical pathway as her safe option. She has lots of interests and hobbies and will talk about them when she can.
Notes:
Trans- I encourage both trans/cis women to apply for her; this is a matter of talent and fitness for the role, and neither will be prioritized over the other. I’m not trans myself, but I am learning about it; I'll adjust/accommodate for better representation.
Medical jargon- sometimes she’ll use medical terms that might be difficult to pronounce.

[defending] No! Mus Musculus, house mouse, one of the most abundant genus of mouse commonly kept as pets and within labs. These mammals only live 1 to 2 years and rapidly reproduce. They commonly live in groups called mischiefs. If there is one there is likely more. All life is precious even if it’s one mouse
[shrugging off] Specter was always originally about them. I mean it was literally their highschool indie show, they’ve always bounced off eachother better. Mia with her actually believing in ghosts and Yuna not caring. Surprise Suprise. I just kinda tagged along cause they needed an editor and I somehow let Mia bribe me into filming.
[angry] You had the gain maxed?! Oh you 100% rolled a zero for intelligence!
Side character/male/origin doesn't matter/unknown age
Type of speaking:
Loud and flamboyant. His voice is very excitable and unserious. It is more on the feminine side to the verge of androgyny. His voice never really indicates any major emotions besides bliss.
Generalized:
He is considered more of an entity than a ghost/demon. The meaning of the letters BD on his clothes is unknown. He tells nothing about himself, and he gives out the tools people need to fight ghosts. It’s unknown if he is a good or bad guy. He just wants to be entertained.
Notes:
Control- he tends to haunt a lot of characters to either help or torment them. His language is very misleading and can be considered abusive
Mentioning gore- he talks about death/corpses the most out of any character in a very casual manner to make others more uncomfortable.

[teasing] I wonder when the sands of time will fall into my favor and let them join you in your crusade against the supernatural. It’s not like it’s a bad thing to keep your own kind safe from ghosts.
[excited] Oh this will be fun~. I’ll definitely be dropping by more often. You have opened a floodgates of opportunity for me!
[controlling in playful manner] You isolated yourself for so long because of the silly book! Be prepared my little girl, your life is about to change. For better or- for worse, you decide. Ciao!
Background character/male/ white American/older man
Disclaimer:
Since this character is considered a background character, you can voice more than one character later if desired!
Overview: a man from the 1800s with a gruff and rude voice. He is the ghost of the first episode and is portrayed as a bad person who has something bad happen to them.
Notes:
Yelling- his murderer does take place in the episode, so being able to scream in pain is necessary. Being extremely expressive is very welcome!
