Memories of the Sable (Fire Emblem Video Series) (POSTPONED INDEFININITELY)

Memories of the Sable (Fire Emblem Video Series) (POSTPONED INDEFININITELY)

Project Overview

I am working on a YouTube video series that involves ROM hacking the game text of Fire Emblem Echoes, and then using video editing to add full voiceovers of all spoken lines to tell a story. It will take place between Act 4 Alm's Route and the postgame arc of Echoes, featuring a variety of characters in the game.

This will tell a satirical story many people wondered about, yet the game never gave much thought towards. It is a long term goal to get this project done, so there will be flexible turnaround times for voice actors. There is no specific timeframe for the project's completion, as well.

The series will be between two and three episodes long,, focusing on making fun of the characters and some gameplay elements. There will be references to games like Persona and Pokemon, and some nods towards my YouTube channel as a whole.

There will also be a few other videos to come out of this project. To be specific, here's what to expect.

1. Parody of Zeke's role in FE Echoes and parts of the postgame (2-3 videos)
2. Serious standalone videos that fit the "What If" format on my channel (2-3 videos)
3. A parody of Desaix's role in FE Echoes by giving him a Trump accent, and Berkut a Russian accent (1 video)

As an example of my ROM hacking ability, I left a link to my Castlevania parody using the Echoes engine for you to see.

Please keep in mind this story will take place during a crucial spoiler point in Echoes, so I suggest you either play the game or familiarize yourself with the key plot points. If you read the cast description, be aware it contains spoilers.

Latest Updates

  • Project postponed indefinitely

I've had some personal issues that have required me to cut back on projects, both in hobbies and academically. As a result, I am forced to postpone this project for an indefinite period of time, until I am able to do everything. I apologize for this, and will do what I can to ensure the project can come back to life at some point down the line. The Trump satire video will still be published, since that was just lacking a voice actor.
  • One more month of auditions

Because of various factors (grad school starting, script rewriting, hurricane, more requests for extensions) I have decided to do a bigger deadline increase
  • Project Scope/Tone Changes

Before I begin this announcement, let me say this real quick: If you only auditioned for one or two roles, then I encourage you to try more out. I would like to hear you in multiple characters' roles, which helps me to make a decision on casting. After careful consideration, I have decided to change both the overall size of the project, and the tone. I made this project as a way to get out of my comfort zone writing wise, as I am not the best at doing fiction. However, I am not happy with how the writing thus far turned out. As a result, I have changed the overall tone from serious to more comedic, as that is something I know I can write well. A handful of scenes that I wrote were still good, and they can be standalone videos as part of my What If series. So in other words, this is what will come out of this project: 1. Parody of Zeke's role in FE Echoes and parts of the postgame (2-3 videos) 2. Serious standalone videos that fit the "What If" format on my channel (2-3 videos) 3. A parody of Desaix's role in FE Echoes by giving him a Trump accent, and Berkut a Russian accent (1 video) If you have any questions, concerns, of feedback about this decision, please feel free to message me here, on Twitter, or Discord. I will do what I can to answer.
  • We Have a Title!

After careful consideration, the series has an actual title! Memories of the Sable!
  • Deadline Extended By One Week

I got a few requests to make the casting call longer, and have agreed to extend the deadline. This will be the final deadline and I do not plan to make any additional extensions.

Zeke

Zeke. Ezekiel. Sirius. Camus. A man of many names who appears in all of the Archanea and Valentia games, Zeke will be the main focus of this story. This will be the most important role in the series, as you will be voicing the protagonist.

Zeke is an honorable Paladin who serves his kingdom with an immense amount of loyalty, yet loses to the opposing forces. He washes ashore and is treated by a saint, but forgets his memories. His beloved is held hostage so he is forced to fight on the wrong side of history, but once the hostage is freed, he is once again able to fight for what he believes in. This strong sense of conviction shows in how he carries himself.

When voicing Ezekiel, keep in mind that he has become jaded, almost closed off. Having seen the worst both in humans and dragons, Zeke is not the most trusting individual out there. There is a certain downbeat, yet assertive calmness to him.

An example of how the game portrays him

  • My liege, I feel my memories returning as I touch this lance. It reminds me of the conviction I once had. Could it be?

  • You are going there too, aren't you? Allow me to join you. There is much that both you and I must accomplish. I also hear the enemies on our way there are surprisingly powerful.

  • Forgive me... Tatiana...

Palla is the eldest sibling among the Whitewings, said to have an unrequited love for someone. Unfortunately for her, she is not very subtle about it, a trait she shares with her sister Catria. It is implied Palla loves Abel, an Altean cavalier currently dating Est.

As the big sister, Palla is an especially compassionate individual. She has a knd, selfless personality. Even if it places others at risk, she is always willing to lend a hand. At the same time, she is not a very flexible individual, taking her views and decisions through thick and thin.

The three sisters play a significant role in this story, and will help Zeke out.

  • You really saved us back there. We may not have been alive if not for you, so thank you.

  • So you heard the news too. I had a feeling that'd be the case.

  • We knew this whole time, but felt best not to say it. Who knows how you'd react?

Catria is the usually collected middle sister of the Whitewings trio who is secretly in love with Marth. She does not have as big of a role as her sisters, since they are the ones who usually do the talking, but she will nonetheless be a part of this series.

Comparatively, Catria is the voice of reason among her sisters. Having served as the “glue” keeping the family together for several years, she is able to persuade Palla’s unshaken will, and Catria also keeps Est more level headed. She tries to keep things at a more professional level between the Whitewings and Ezekiel, even if that means being harsh.

  • Shouldn't we get going? There's no time to waste.

  • ...Marth? H-how do you know about him? I-it's not like I miss the guy or anything! Besides, he got engaged!

Est is the youngest sister of the Whitewings trio. she ends up falling in love with Abel, an Altean knight in service of Marth. She is the most energetic and upbeat among her sisters, and will play an important role in this story.

By far, Est is the chatterbox among her sisters. Because she is a bit naive, Est is prone to getting herself in trouble, both at home with her sisters, and due to countless kidnappings. Despite her smiling, bubbly external persona, she feels far from it deep down. Est often wonders if she can really help those around her, and for that reason, she can be as reckless as Palla, if not more.

  • Ah! It's you! After all these years, you haven't changed, huh?

  • I almost died back there! If you didn't kill that comedian, I'd be the one who's done for, not him!

Role assigned to: Will of Blades

Yes, really. This is related to Fire Emblem. I am working on a side project that has been delayed for weeks because I haven't found a good Trump impersonator voice yet. An undisclosed character will be played with a Trump-esque voice, making fun of his personality for being so similar to Trump's.

Some of the lines are puns on ridiculous things Trump said, so 18+ year old auditions for this one only

The key to voicing Trump is imitation. You want to sound like an orange degenerate Oompa Loompa who escaped Willy Wonka’s factory and fleeced the Electoral College.

This role involves Chancellor Desaix of Zofia in a Trump voice while talking to a Russian sounding Berkut.-

While the key to voice acting this lies on Trump, keep in mind how Desaix is a cowardly puppet with an immense amount of hatred towards his opposition, to the point of selling his soul to the Empire. Desaix is a surprisingly intelligent  man, having figured out Rudolf’s conspiracy before anyone not named Mycen.

Almost everything you’ll be saying in this role will be a wisecrack at Trump’s antics, so you are encouraged to sound absolutely ridiculous.

  • Sigh*
I was able to get a big, beautiful win, you wouldn’t believe it. Despite the negative
press covfefe! I am the one sitting on this throne!

  • We will build the wall, and then you can shower us
with gold. It’ll be a golden shower!

Rudolf

The entire plot of Fire Emblem Echoes was all a big conspiracy which Emperor Rudolf invented. By manipulating both his country and the neighboring Zofians, his plan was foolproof, even if it cost him his own life.

Emperor Rudolf appears only in the very first scene of this video series, as he talks with Ezekiel. Surprisingly, the game did not add a custom battle convo for the two, and so I set out to solve this. That is what led to the entire series idea.

As the monarch of a war-torn, starving Rigel, Rudolf has an intimidating presence. His tone is gruff, even while speaking to the man he loved as a son, Zeke. His sense of pride as a knight forces him ever into battle, for the sake of the greater good. There is a twinge of sadness in his overall composure, but that can only be heard by those paying attention to it.

  • I obtained a certain lance to help jog your memory. Tell Alm to find it.

  • All shall be clear shortly. But for now, we must face each other in combat as knights. Come!

Massena

Stern yet compassionate, Massena was the leader of Rudolf's Royal Guard. He was also the right hand man of the emperor, and was among the first to find out the true conspiracy which led to the Valentian war

Much like in the game, Massena will play a minor role in advancing the story for the video series.

Massena appears twice in the series, and speaks with Ezekiel about what is currently happening in Valentia and Archanea. He serves the role of mentor in Rudolf’s stead. As one of the highest ranking military personnel in Rigel, Massena also holds an imposing presence, but to a far lesser extent than Rudolf. Furthermore, Massena sees Ezekiel as a brother in arms, and so he shows kindness towards the general.

  • So, you have arrived. Is it true that you regained your memories?

  • Our spies are certain of it. Based on what we know about you, we felt you deserved to know. What will you do now?

Conrad

Conrad often acts as the knight in shining armor who helps Celica during her journey. He uses a mask to (poorly) conceal his identity, and it surprisingly works, as no other character can tell.

He will make a brief appearance to help move the plot forward, similar to Massena.

Conrad makes two appearances in the series. The first involves his Masked Man persona, where he teams up with Ezekiel to save Est from Hades and Cerberus. This is very brief, and focuses mainly on him critting while doing a Persona nod. “They’ll never see it comiiing!” At this point, Conrad is brimming with confidence, and is more than willing to save the day if that is what the army requires of him.

Later in the story, Conrad will no longer have his mask on, as the war is over. Instead, Ezekiel is greeted by the socially awkward scholar who trained under Halcyon, and heard of Camus the Sable thanks to his many studies at Sage’s Hamet. Conrad tries to control his inner geeky side, but is unable to in the presence of a living historical figure in his eyes.

  • They'll never see it coming! [said in a way similar to Persona 5's lyrics in a singsongy voice]

  • It's a long way here from Rigel, you know. What brings you here?

  • I heard the reports as well. So, you'll be going, then? Anything we can do to help?

Tatiana is a kind Rigelian saint who treats Zeke after he appears in the shores of her country. Both end up falling in love with each other. While her compassion is admirable, she secretly hopes her amnesiac lover will not regain his past memories.

Because she cannot go to Archanea, Tatiana’s role in the story is very short. She must face the reality that her lover is heading off for a while, but wants to keep him happy. Tatiana holds an aching heart in that she knows there is more to Zeke’s story than what he can tell her, but she remains strong for him regardless.

  • Zeke? You look terrified. Did something happen?

  • By the way,  Massena was looking for you. He said to visit the castle as soon as possible.

Hades is a Gold Knight, and arguably the strongest non-mage unit among the Duma Faithful. He does not have spoken lines in the game, unlike most of the others in this story, so we'll have to improvise.

For this role, think of a war veteran who is high ranking and respected among his peers, yet has a poor sense of humor. His cameo will mostly be for comic relief.

Fun fact: His name in the Japanese version roughly translates to Bahdess, or Badess, and making a pun about it is why I wanted him in this series in the first place.

  • You know Cerberus, I've always liked astrophysics. Hopefully Lord Duma will allow me to pursue my dreams, and people will go "Watch out, we got a Bahdess over here!"

Cerberus is a Dread Fighter, one of the most powerful members of the Duma Faithful. His addition to the series will be a brief cameo. Unlike the other characters, we do not know what he sounds like, so imagine a calm, collected assassin's voice for this one.

  • I cannot let you go further, prince. You may have reached this far, but this is where your story ends.

  • Hades, you cannot be serious. Just stand in your post and wait until they get here.
