[Young Milisandia talking about Gaius] He fights for the Empire, so we should, too! That'll make him proud of us.
Gaius van Baelsar, also known as The Black Wolf. After the events of A Realm Reborn, Gaius resolved to live on as an avenger to murder the Ascians who had controlled him and his men, remaining stoic and reserved. Though having abandoned his rank, he still considers himself a son of Garlemald, though he fights in the name of his homeland rather than the Empire. He is willing to lay previous grudges against the Scions of the Seventh Dawn and the Eorzean Alliance to rest if it is for the greater good. He develops a respectful partnership with the Azure Dragoon, Estinien Wyrmblood, during their mission into Garlemald. The irony of working with his previous foes is not lost on Gaius. He feels the weight of his previous actions as legatus, horrified to learn that the orphans he took in and raised would create and use dangerous magitek, causing havoc. Gaius abhors the way the Garlean Empire treats those who are not pure-blood Garleans, and is appalled at having once served under its banner upon discovering the extent such abuse.
[to MC] Even from afar your figure was unmistakable. As ever, an impressive display.
Though as I am sure you will concur, the Ultima Weapon pales in comparison to this new monstrosity. If their research is allowed to continue, the next model will be nigh on unstoppable.
[reunited with Rex, Allie and Alfonse] It has been too long, Alfonse. And you too, Rex. Given that the Empire is proceeding with the Weapon project and making inroads into Eorzea, I suppose it was only a matter of time until our paths crossed.
Also known as "Imperial Soldier" when he first appeared. Male Au Ra with short white hair.
[running after Allie, scolding and yelling at her] Allie! What do you think you're doing!?
[as a child in flashback] I just wish there was a way we could repay Lord Gaius for all the kindness he's shown us.
That's exactly the problem, Allie. If he knew the true nature of the Weapon project, he'd find some way to interfere.
Allie has a happy upbeat personality even through the years and hardships she has faced within the Garlean military. Allie loves and cares for her siblings, sharing their goals of one day becoming free of the oppression they have endured since Gaius's departure. Allie can't even imagine a world without them.
[to Gaius, her Father] I know a lot's happened, but I'm just glad you're all right. And now...you can come back to Garlemald with us!
[Young Allie in flashback, when they are talking about Gaius] Brothers and sisters? Then that would make Lord Gaius our...father?
Father... Since you went away, a lot has changed in the Empire. For us, too.
One of the male Au Ra's who like Allie, Ricon, Milisandia and Alfonse was adopted by Gaius at young age. As the most senior of his group of orphans, he took his role as their older brother very seriously. Gaius had instilled in him the belief that all within the Empire must be treated fairly, regardless of race or background.
[disappointed] It's wonderful to see you again, Father, although I can't say I think much of the company you've been keeping.
[Young Rex talking about Gaius with Allie, Alfonse, Ricon and Milisandia] As for us three, our parents all died in the epidemic. We'd still be begging on street corners if it weren't for him.
[to MC, full of hatred.] As for you, hero of Eorzea, you'll pay for what you did to Milisandia. I swear it.
Ricon is not the best pilot compared to his foster siblings, but knows that he is useful to some degree, willing to sacrifice his life when the weapon he pilots is unfinished and unable to contest with the Warrior of Light. He's also the one with not that many lines in this "Ruby Doomsday" episode.
[Young Ricon, when young Alfonse suggesting they join the army] I don't think that's such a good idea... Everyone in Werlyt was scared of the Garleans. Why would we want to be like them?
[doubful, unsure to Alfonse] If only it were that simple. There's no guarantee any of us'll make it back alive.
