Falling For You, Falling Behind
Project Overview
Riku Asano was once a rising basketball star—until a devastating injury stole his future on the court. Now, he drifts through high school, avoiding the sport that once defined him. That is, until he meets Sana Hayami, a passionate and relentless player whose love for the game is infectious. Drawn to her energy, Riku finds himself pulled back into the world he left behind.
When Sana’s team faces disqualification from an upcoming tournament due to a missing player, Riku hesitantly steps in, promising himself it’s just one last game. But as the tournament heats up, so does the connection between him and Sana, turning fleeting moments into something deeper.
With everything on the line, Riku must decide: is he willing to risk his heart on the court again, knowing that not every game can be won?

“I worked my ass off for it, trained every day, practiced harder than anyone. It was… everything to me. And then I lost it."
“I love you, Sana. So much. You changed my life. You got me back into basketball. You made me want to live again. You—You make me happy, and I don’t know how else to say it. But this? This is stupid. I would never do that to you. It was a misunderstanding. I know you’re going through a lot and your brain is probably thinking of a million things, but I promise you, it’s not what you think it is. I’m in love with you.”
"No, you're not! You’re right here! Sana, I need you! I can't—I can't live without you. You brought my smile back. You brought my love for basketball back. You brought me back."
The other main character. You help Riku get back into basketball and fall in love with him while also secretly battling a disease. (Despite the lines, this role is very energetic.)

“I know what you’re thinking. But I also know something else. Nobody can stop you. I’ve seen it, even when you’re just casually playing against me, you’re still unstoppable. You’re better than anyone I’ve ever played with. I don’t want your talent to go to waste just because you’re scared. I promise, if you compete, I’ll stop bothering you. After the tournament, you can leave me forever.”
"I’m sick. Very sick. I didn’t want to tell you, because I knew exactly what you’d say. You’d say I shouldn’t play. You’d say I should stop pushing myself. That there’s still a way to fix this, that I could get better, that I should stop before it’s too late. Am I right? That’s why I made up my mind the second I met you, Riku. My dream has always been to fulfill my father’s basketball dream, but I knew I didn’t have much time. So, I put you on that path instead. I vowed on my father’s grave that I’d do whatever it takes to make sure his dreams come true. Even if it’s through you. So don’t cry, okay?"
(Diary Entry) Entry #12 – If You Find This, Riku… If you’re reading this, it means… I didn’t get to say goodbye. And that breaks my heart. I wanted more time. I wanted to watch you play your first professional game. I wanted to see how far you'd go. I wanted to tease you when you got nervous, to be in the stands, screaming your name. But life… doesn’t always work that way, does it? So instead, I’ll leave this here. My last words to you. Riku, you were the best thing that ever happened to me. You were the reason I smiled every day. You made my last moments the happiest I’ve ever been. I would choose this life again and again—as long as I got to meet you. You changed me. And I know you don’t want to hear this, but when I’m gone, I want you to keep living. Really living. Chase your dream. Don’t let fear stop you. Laugh as much as possible. Find happiness. And please, Riku… Never stop playing. Whenever you step onto the court, whenever you take a shot, whenever you hear the sound of the ball hitting the floor—know that I’m there. I’ll always be there, guiding you and rooting for you. And I’ll always love you. Forever. —Sana

“You idiot! You didn’t even call me once!”
"Alright, then I’ll make it easy for you. We’re done. If you’re making me choose, I pick Riku."
“Relax, Fujimura. I’m not a homewrecker, okay? There’s nothing to be scared of. At the end of the day, you were the best choice for him. You were there for him. I wasn’t. You got him back into basketball. I didn’t. I guess… it was never really a competition, huh?”
You're an important side character. You fell for Emu when you were younger after she stood up for you.
