[FANDUB] Detective Conan Episode 01

[FANDUB] Detective Conan Episode 01

Project Overview

About the Project:
Welcome to the Detective Conan Resluethed project! This is a fan-created English dub of the iconic Japanese anime series, Detective Conan (also known as Case Closed). Originally created by Gosho Aoyama, the anime follows the adventures of Conan Edogawa, a young detective who solves complex criminal cases while trying to uncover the mystery behind his own transformation into a child. As the anime has over 1,000 episodes, numerous movies, and a worldwide fanbase, this project is a passion-driven endeavor to provide English-speaking fans with a fresh take on some of the most gripping arcs of the series.

What Makes This Project Unique:
Rather than simply recreating the existing English dub, we aim to reimagine the series with a focus on staying as true to the Japanese source material as possible, while enhancing the emotional depth and nuance of the characters through a new set of voices. This is a long-term project, and while we won't be covering the entire series (due to its massive length), we plan to focus on key story arcs that feature Conan's clever detective work, tense mysteries, and his evolving relationships with those around him. Our goal is to bring a high level of professionalism and authenticity to the production.

The Team's Vision:
This project is for fans of Detective Conan who want to contribute to something creative and collaborative. Whether you're a voice actor, sound engineer, or simply someone with a deep love for the series, your involvement will help shape the success of this fandub. We understand that Detective Conan is a beloved series with a lot of history, so we are committed to treating it with the respect it deserves. We aim to create a polished and high-quality fandub that reflects our passion for the show and our dedication to making the best fan experience possible.

Voice Actor Expectations:
For our voice actors, we’re looking for individuals who can bring a wide range of emotions to their roles. Since Detective Conan has a vast array of characters, from cool and composed detectives to eccentric criminals and terrified victims, versatility will be key. We need actors who can bring out the heart-pounding intensity of a murder scene, the sly confidence of a detective, and the vulnerability of characters caught in dangerous situations. Your audition should show your ability to handle different emotional beats and tones, from intense and serious moments to light-hearted and comedic ones.

Technical Requirements:
Given the collaborative nature of this project, we ask that all voice actors have access to a good quality microphone and recording setup. Clear and crisp audio is essential to ensure the best possible listening experience. Background noise, popping sounds, or any other disruptions can affect the overall production, so we ask for professionalism in this area. While this is a fan project, we’re striving to maintain a high level of quality, and that starts with each actor's recording environment.

Long-Term Commitment:
As this is a large-scale project that will cover multiple episodes and potentially even movies, we’re looking for voice actors who can commit to the long term. If you're interested in joining, please be prepared for the possibility of recurring roles and ongoing participation. We understand that real-life commitments come up, but communication is key. If you're unable to continue at any point, just let us know ahead of time so we can work together on a smooth transition.

Non-Character Roles:
In addition to voice actors, we are also looking for people interested in other aspects of the production, such as sound mixing, audio editing, and script adaptation. If you have a passion for working behind the scenes or want to contribute to bringing the Detective Conan universe to life in a new way, there are plenty of opportunities for you. We also welcome video editors who can assist with timing the dialogue to match the lip movements of the characters.

Respect for the Source Material:
As a team, we aim to preserve the tone and feel of Detective Conan in our dub. This means staying true to the original script and avoiding unnecessary changes. We will take care to respect the core elements of the characters and the plots, ensuring that the dub reflects the intricacies and intelligence of the series. We encourage anyone auditioning or contributing to the project to be familiar with the original Japanese version so that you understand the context and mood of the scenes you're performing.

Community and Collaboration:
While this project is non-commercial and fan-driven, we want to foster a positive and supportive community. This is a project where everyone involved will have the chance to collaborate with fellow fans, voice actors, and creators. We encourage open communication, constructive feedback, and mutual respect among the team. Our goal is to create a fun and rewarding experience for all contributors while producing something we can all be proud of.

Why You Should Join:
If you’ve ever dreamed of being part of a voiceover project, now is your chance to work on a series that has captured the imaginations of mystery lovers worldwide. The Detective Conan fandub is an opportunity to flex your acting, technical, or creative muscles while helping to bring this timeless series to life for a broader audience. Whether you're an aspiring voice actor or a long-time fan, this is your chance to leave your mark on a beloved anime series.

Where to Watch the Series:

Kogoro Mouri

Unpaid
Role assigned to: Bash Cleesattel

Kogoro has an overinflated sense of his importance and detective prowess to the point where he doesn't investigate why he is suddenly and consistently passing out at crime scenes and solving cases in his sleep with different deductions than he was making while awake. Kogoro is also frequently unprofessional in his work, frequently making sarcastic and blunt comments about suspects or even his clients. In cases, Kogoro is typically lax with his deductions and investigation, following only the most obvious clues or assumptions to reach his conclusions, which are often silly or fall directly into a culprit's trap. The police, especially Megure, often find him to be an embarrassment while awake and hope to see "Sleeping Kogoro" as soon as possible. Kogoro does have a serious side which only emerges when the case has personal importance to him, such as when Eri and Ran are involved. When this happens, Kogoro's entire personality and demeanor change and he begins acting professionally, demonstrating improved deductive skills and cunning. While he is not up to the standards of Shinichi and he still can have problems with finding clues, his logical reasoning becomes better, and Kogoro often demonstrates he has a better sense of interpersonal relationships than Shinichi does.

Genta Kojima

Genta is the self-proclaimed leader of the Detective Boys. He loves food, especially braised eel on rice, and can eat more than all the other Detective Boys members combined. When discussions of money come up, Genta tends to think about it in terms of how many eel bowls he could buy. He also tends to mess up certain Japanese terms with similar-sounding words (especially if the latter are related to food) and sometimes has trouble reading even the most common Kanji, which on occasion causes some ridicule from his classmates and friends. His brash personality, lack of awareness of his surroundings, and tendency to not think before acting often lands the Detective Boys (or at least himself) in sticky situations.

Ayumi is a primarily naive and innocent little girl who enjoys adventure. She demonstrates courage as time goes on and acts as the group's cheerful spirit. She has an open crush on Conan, even dreaming about marrying him, which makes him uncomfortable. At the same time, Ayumi thinks that he has feelings for Haibara because he tries to protect her and she often sees them talking amongst themselves in private. Ayumi later becomes better friends with Haibara and she allows Ayumi permission to use the more informal term Ai-chan to address her. When on a case, Ayumi often makes simple observations that help lead to progress and resolution.

Gin

Of the high ranking members of the Black Organization shown, Gin is the most loyal: he follows the boss' orders most closely and virtually never acts against the Organization's greater interests. He is also one of the Black Organization's most dangerous operatives; Conan miscalculating his intelligence, abilities, and speed of response have resulted in several very close calls and awry plans.

Gin's murderous eyes. Gin is a merciless and efficient assassin. He has no compunctions about killing or threatening fellow teammates. Fitting his icy personality, Gin's displayed range of emotions so far is relatively limited. Wearing a threatening smirk, he enjoys hunting traitors, watching the plans he has concocted succeed, and cornering his targets. Although he seems to take satisfaction with taking out someone personally, Gin is also satisfied with orchestrating a target's death even if he does not pull the trigger himself.

Vodka speaks and acts like a typical mafia or Yakuza type gangster, and he is just as ruthless a killer as his partner Gin. However, he is also more easy-going and trusting than the latter, thus making him more susceptible to traps Conan sets to apprehend the Organization. In addition, he tends to not perform well under stress without guidance from Gin or other characters.
