Delayed casting
Hi everyone who auditioned! Sorry for the delayed response on casting. My team and I just were not able to meet this weekend. But, we hope to have our casting meeting on Monday, so y’all will know soon! Thank you for your patience!
This is an emergency recasting for the Narrator and Sol for an already existing project, so if this is familiar, that's because it is. Please read everything I have written because it is all very important.
Hi there all! My name is Jessica, I’m a theatre major with specialties in acting, stage managing, and directing, and this is a project I’ve been thinking about for awhile now. I was introduced to this video game through a class at college in early 2023, and I fell in love with it. It’s along the lines of a visual novel, mixed in with card games and RPGs. It’s a wonderful game that includes characters of color as well as a range of positive representations of the LGBTQIA+ community. Since playing it, I’ve wanted to do a voiced version of the game, so I’m finally giving it a shot. This is an unpaid project. I would very much like to be able to pay the cast for their work, but unfortunately I do not have the funds for it. There is a small possibility not a guarantee that it might be a paid project. It depends on if I can get a grant from my university. But for now, it is unpaid.
In I Was A Teenage Exocolonist, the player plays as the main character Sol as they grow up on the far off planet of Vertumna. The player gets to decide if Sol is male, female, or nonbinary, and they get to choose their augment (each child is born with an enhanced ability) and their best friend. The game proceeds to explore Sol’s life across a 10 year period as they adjust to life on their new planet and the trials of growing up. The player gets to decide what skills they want to build, which friendships to explore, and which jobs to take. I Was A Teenage Exocolonist is a game that explores the theme of “your choices matter” as each choice the player makes impacts the story. At the end of the player’s first playthrough, they find out that Sol has lived countless lives, and their future self comes to them and gives them a second chance at life, allowing for the player to make different choices and unlock new content. For more on the game you can go to the game’s website: https://exocolonist.com/ and if you would like to play the game, it’s available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Steam, Microsoft Windows, and Epic Games for $24.99.
I Was A Teenage Exocolonist is an indie game released in August of 2022. It was developed by Northway Games, the Canadian husband-and-wife duo of Sarah and Colin Northway, and was awarded the Canadian Screen Award for Best Video Game Narrative. This project is in no way affiliated with Northway Games or Finji Studios. All characters, music, story, content, and gameplay belong to Sarah and Colin, their amazing team, and all the artists that contributed to the artwork of the cards. I do not intend to make money on this project, it is fully a fan-made project from someone who wants to do this beautiful game justice with a voice cast. That is all. I have no claims to any of the content, and no claims to any of the actors' voices. (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Was_a_Teenage_Exocolonist)
Requirements:
a decent microphone and set up
as little background noise as possible
Absolute minimum peaking. This can be edited in Audacity
This game is rated T for teen because of blood, drug references, language, sexual themes, use of alcohol, and violence, so I want only 18+ actors auditioning. This game is 13+, but please use your own discretion
Both characters and narrator will be saying lines talking about sex, puberty, injuries, flirting, death, blood, swearing, and other heavy topics as stated above, so please bear in mind that if you are not comfortable talking about any of that, it would be advisable to not audition or to audition for smaller parts.
If you are concerned about specific content, you can find the game's content warnings and search through them here: https://www.exocolonist.com/content_warnings.php#:~:text=Descriptions%20of%20various%20creatures%20may,stabbing%20it%20in%20the%20eye.&text=Characters%20will%20flirt%20with%20you%2C%20some%20using%20explicit%20language.
It’s preferable if you have played the game before but is not required.
Actors should want to be in it for the long run. This game is essentially a visual novel, so the audio will be similar to an audio drama, and there are over 30 hours of gameplay to voice.
If you are auditioning for the Narrator, be prepared to voice Sol. I am unsure of it right now, but the Narrator may also end up playing Sol, as those lines coincide with each other, so, if you are auditioning to voice the Narrator, you may be asked to voice Sol at ages 9, 14, 17, adulthood, and old age.
Must have discord
Hi everyone who auditioned! Sorry for the delayed response on casting. My team and I just were not able to meet this weekend. But, we hope to have our casting meeting on Monday, so y’all will know soon! Thank you for your patience!
This is an emergency casting call to replace the Narrator and the main protagonist Sol. You will be voicing not only the person who tells the story, you will be telling Sol's thoughts, and you will be voicing Sol from ages 9 to 19. So you need to have a range of a child's voice to adult. The narrator has the most lines in the whole script. You are telling the whole story, but also conveying Sol's thoughts, emotions, and life. You have to be able to keep the story moving, while also being able to convey extreme emotions for the entirety of the story, Sol's life from 10-19. Sol is nonbinary in this project, but the player can actually adjust that to their liking. So, anyone can audition for this. Race is also ambiguous, so actors of color are encouraged to audition!
You must be at least 18 to audition due to content in the game including mild sexual content and references to death, drugs, and alcohol. Please read the content warnings in the explanation before you audition.
Please read all of the terms and conditions above.
Total lines for Narrator: 5654
Total lines for Sol: 1153
This is the prologue of the game, however I'm not looking for an epic or comic book narrator. The narrator should be natural, flowing. The narrator is really Sol, they're Sol's future self looking back at their life. Because it's so long, you only have to do one take.
You wake to chaos. A confusion of light and heat and smoke… Fire! Your head is pounding. You must have hit it and blacked out, but you aren’t sure how you got here… or what on Vertumna is happening. There’s something important you need to remember… Your stomach lurches as the floor crumbles beneath your feet, then collapses! Your body aches and your eyes burn from the smoke. A figure appears through the flames. It’s your friend! Your…friend? Wait… why can’t you remember her name? She’s gesturing and shouting at you, but all you hear is a ringing in your ears. “What’s going on??” You try to speak, but the words come out jumbled. Your throat seizes around a lungful of choking smoke, and you feel dizzy and confused. Your friend pulls you out of the rubble. She throws your arm over her shoulder and half-drags you towards the door. Through it, you see a deep, eerie twilight - dark blue and cold against the heat of the fire around you. Glow season… Glowing eyes! You shake your head to clear your vision. Is that… some kind of dog, like from Earth? The creature howls and lunges! Its jaws open…
