Einar

Einar

Project Overview

Einar is a single-player 3D 3rd person fighting/adventure game based on the Norse mythology, based in the Scandinavian wilderness, where the player is on a quest to kill inhabitants that have gotten infected by a mysterious material. This material can be defined as some sort of 'metal' which originates from a large meteor. These infected inhabitants are called 'Draugr'. During his travels, Einar is accompanied by three gods of Norse mythology; Thor, Freya, and Tyr. These gods accompany him in a bodiless, spirit-like fashion, as floating orbs of light.

Einar is awkward during conversations with others. His emotionless voice, as well as held back personality results in him not saying more than is needed. His sentences have a very obvious beginning, and end, and never elongate any sentences, words, and sounds.
Einar's voice is somewhat deep, mixed with a more alien like presence, as Einar himself is also slowly turning into a Draugr, yet he still retains his warm brotherly aspect.

  • (Disgusted - Disappointed) “We turned into hideous creatures. Monsters, only known to our darkest nightmares.”

  • (Fearful - Daunting) “Those thousands of souls were forcibly awoken. The surface rumbled, the air screamed, the water screeched, and the sky coloured a blazing red.”

  • (Calm - Distant) “This land that has been stuck in time. A white prison. One that slowly puts us to sleep.”

Thor is the archetypical Norse warrior; very short-tempered, to the point, and prefers acting over speaking.

Thor has a very deep, almost thundering like voice, rarely showing any sign of positive emotions.
Thor however pleases himself in moments of madness of his fellow gods, yet when in normal conversations he is very respectful of his peers, and of Einar if he proves himself to be a worthy warrior.

  • (Determined - Steadfast) "No matter the importance they will meet their end the same. These beasts are no longer human, and we should kill them as such."

  • (Disinterest - Threatening) “A sorry state, you should do well to not follow its example.”

  • (Impressed - Joy) "Hmmm, I had my doubts before, but you have turned out to be a fine warrior. Shatter the rock, let the mighty Mjölnir roar!"

Freya

Freya is the goddess of fertility and love, she has a sultriness about her, but not to the point where it occupies her whole character. She has power in her own right, which comes forward when she wants it.

When comforting, or reassuring Einar she speaks in a more soft voice, but a very strong one. Cleanly articulating her words, making absolutely sure their meaning has been brought across.
Towards Thor, Freya will speak icely, clearly suggesting they have had a unresolved disagreement in the past. Freya assault Thor verbally; making fun of-, and calling him names while she takes delight in his misfortune.

When Tyr turns into his 'Berserker' state, Freya acts mildy disdainful towards him, as it makes him reek of hypocrisy. Furthermore, their views of the world, and moral standards differ, and she has no desire to reconcile.

  • (Disappointed - Scorn) "Yet, did this tragedy not occur due to their unending greed? Humans simply cannot see when they have reached their limit."

  • (Reassuring - Encouraging) “Enough trembling in your boots, be ready.”

  • (Disgusted - Disdain) “It reeks of filth here. How could you humans even consume these animals?”

Tyr

The dual nature of Tyr as god of warfare and justice is shown through subtle changes of dialogue between his personalities.

In his 'Justice' state Tyr resembles that cuddly, spoiling grandfather with a big heart, but wise words. He has a very calm voice, but can be stern if Einar encounters a situation that conflict with Tyr's morals of all life being equal. Tyr is an outstanding orator, eloquent and righteous. However, when moral standards are bound to be broken he will be judgemental, at times even looking down upon those who break those very standards.

In his 'Berserker' state Tyr is nothing more than a blood-crazy monstrosity. He screams atop of his lungs, lashes out at Einar, and the Draugr, and he speaks like a feral beast that has the capability of speach. His voice also becomes higher pitched, almost screech-like during laughter.

  • (Stern - Desperate) "On the surface they might look like hideous creatures, but there is no denying they have existed as human beings walking this earth! Spare all that you can, there might be a way to return them."

  • (Careful - Warning) "Keep your eyes peeled, friend. The road ahead is dark, and even we do not have the faintest clue of what might be hiding inside."

  • (Berserker - Mad) “Gauge their eyes, rip their spines, swallow them whole!”
