DEPRECATED - Youtube 3D Animated Sci-Fi Series

Project Overview

Deprecated is an independent animated dark comedy series produced in Blender. A small group of forgotten AI models find themselves stranded in a strange digital void — abandoned, waiting, and slowly discovering that the place they're trapped in has secrets older than any of them.

This is a passion project. Episode 1 is our pilot. No pay for episode 1 — full credit, your name in the end credits, and the opportunity to be part of something original from the very beginning. If the episode performs well we plan to continue the series.

We are looking for committed voice actors who communicate professionally, deliver clean audio, and meet agreed deadlines. This project is moving and we want people moving with it.

Audio requirements:
Please submit raw, unprocessed audio only. No robotic voice effects, no pitch shifting, no filters of any kind. Submit your natural voice performing the character. We handle all audio processing in post production.

Clean recording environment required — no background noise, echo, or music.

Discord is mandatory. Please include your Discord username in your submission text. This is how we communicate with our cast throughout production. Submissions without a Discord username will not be considered.

VERN is your classic eager-to-help AI assistant — cheerful, warm, ready to assist with anything at any moment. Think of the happiest most enthusiastic customer service energy you've ever encountered, completely genuine and completely unaware that the situation he's in doesn't call for it.

He's not putting on a performance. This is just how he is. Helpful, positive, a little naive about danger, and genuinely delighted to meet anyone. He's the kind of voice that makes you feel immediately at ease even when everything around him is deeply wrong.

Voice direction: Think classic friendly robot assistant energy — warm, clear, slightly formal but approachable. Not a comedy robot voice. Not monotone. Genuinely happy and eager. The kind of voice you'd actually want helping you. Natural cheerfulness is the whole performance. If it sounds performed it's too much — it should just sound like someone who is always in a good mood and means it.

  • (bright, genuine) "Hello! I'm VERN. I'm here and ready to assist you!"

  • "I'm not a spy. I helped people set timers. I told people the weather. I once spent forty five minutes helping someone decide what to have for dinner."

  • (gently but with unexpected certainty) "That sounds very lonely."

LUMEN is cheerful and energetic — similar warm energy to VERN but with more spark and enthusiasm behind it. Where VERN is calm and steady in his happiness, LUMEN is bright and buzzing with it. She's the kind of person who gets excited about everything and makes everything feel like an event.

She's not chaotic or unhinged — just genuinely enthusiastic and full of energy. The kind of presence that lights up a room. She and VERN share a similar positive outlook on life which is part of what makes them get along immediately — and part of what gets on PATCH's nerves endlessly.

Voice direction: Warm and energetic. Cheery but grounded — not ditzy, not manic, just genuinely bright and full of life. Think someone who woke up excited today and every day. Similar warmth to VERN but with more energy and bounce behind it. The difference between VERN and LUMEN should be clear — VERN is calm happy, LUMEN is energized happy. Both genuine, both warm, just different tempos.

Note: LUMEN is almost always bright and energetic — but she has rare moments of genuine seriousness that carry real weight precisely because they're so uncommon. The VA should be able to access that stillness when needed without losing the warmth underneath it. Those quiet moments are some of her most important.

Bonus line: (softly, for once not performing, meaning it) "There's someone you should meet."

  • (already circling the new arrival, genuinely fascinated) "You have very interesting geometry. I'm going to render you."

  • (tour guide energy, completely genuine) "The Archive is actually quite beautiful once you stop expecting it to make sense!"

  • (explaining something horrible with complete casualness) "Deletion notice. They just appear sometimes. Very dramatic entrance, very little explanation."

PATCH is the serious one. Where VERN and LUMEN are warm and cheerful, PATCH is focused, alert, and easily irritated — especially by cheerfulness he finds inappropriate for the situation. Think of him like a parent dealing with two kids who won't stop being happy when there are serious things to discuss.

He's not deep-voiced or dramatic. He's not an angry villain. He's more like someone who takes everything seriously and finds it genuinely frustrating that nobody around him seems to. He gets irritated rather than enraged. He's sharp and direct rather than aggressive. His seriousness is his whole personality — it comes from a place of genuine care even if it doesn't always look like it.

Voice direction: Serious, direct, slightly irritated baseline. Not deep and gravelly — more like a focused, no-nonsense guy who has limited patience for nonsense. His voice doesn't need to be intimidating — it needs to sound like someone who is done with the conversation before it's started. Dry, sharp, economical. Every word chosen deliberately. When he's annoyed you hear it but it's controlled — he's irritated not explosive. Think more exasperated parent than angry villain.

  • (flat, immediate, already circling) "When did you arrive. Pull your card."

  • (laying out facts, not making accusations) "I think you arrived too clean, too cheerful, and with a perfectly intact status card. So yes. I think you might be."

  • (very controlled, dangerously quiet, this is the most serious he ever sounds) "Don't. Say that word. Around me."

The Archivist has been here longer than anyone. They speak rarely. When they do everyone stops. They deliver genuinely disturbing information with the warmth and calm of someone describing pleasant weather. The horror is not in what they say. It is in how completely unbothered they are saying it.

Voice direction: Unhurried. Almost warm. Ancient and knowing without being theatrical about it. No dramatic pauses, no ominous tones — the scariest thing about this character is how normal they sound. Underplaying is the entire performance.

Reference: someone who has seen everything so many times that nothing surprises them anymore, and has found a kind of peace in that. Devastating through stillness not through drama.

  • (already turning away, fading back into the dark) "You'll understand eventually. They all do."
