Delusions of Grandeur (Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Machinima)
Project Overview
The year is 2001: the Super Smash Bros. tournaments have expanded to welcome a new wave of combatants. Topping them all, however, is Fox McCloud; despite his incredible winning streak, he maintains a positive and supporting attitude towards his fellow Smashers.
Five years later, in 2006: Fox has fallen from grace and now struggles to reach the semi-finals. This is in part due to everyone else catching up to his skill level over time, but the years-long losing streak has made the once amicable Fox into a bitter and resentful individual. Now, Fox intends to not only reclaim his title as the undisputed king of the Melee tournaments--he wants to become the undisputed king of the world.
Delusions of Grandeur is reboot of a machinima series by razanak7, originally created in 2007: the full series can be found here. This remake of the series aims to improve the writing of the original, creating a more consistent plot and adding proper character development. As the dialogue of the original series was conveyed through text (fine by 2007 standards, less so by 2019-2020 standards), voice acting is also a new inclusion that further enhances the aforementioned changes to the original.
When auditioning for this series, you must:
- Have a decent microphone and/or be in a suitable recording environment.
- Be able to consistently meet deadlines. Failure to do so will result in being booted from the project.
- Maintain consistent communication, mainly to keep production going smoothly.

Hello, everyone! Of the 14 roles up for audition, I've finalized 12 of them. To everyone who was cast, congratulations! I will be in contact with you at some point today to fill you in on how things will work, as well as provide you with the script for the first episode. For those who auditioned but didn't make the cut, congratulations to you all as well. There are a couple of you who I think would be perfect understudies, and I'll be in contact with you about that as well. The roles of Pichu and Link are still up for grabs, however: I've been in contact with some actors regarding the roles that haven't auditioned yet, and I'd like to give them one more opportunity to try out: thus, the final deadline will be Dec. 9th. If you auditioned for another character but didn't make the cut, give these roles a shot! You might be exactly who I'm looking for.

New Deadline: December 2nd, 2019
Hello everyone! I've received plenty of great auditions so far, and I've shortlisted many potential actors. However, I feel the following characters in particular are still in need of some quality auditions: Mewtwo, Ganondorf, Link, and Donkey Kong. Because of this, I am extending the deadline for auditions to December 2nd, 2019. For the rest of the cast, I have several actors already shortlisted: for those of you who I've shortlisted, I will officially cast you once the new deadline passes so that everyone receives a script at the same time. I also have some VAs who have expressed an interest in auditioning, but have not yet found the time to do so: this extension will provide those with more time to try out. Thanks to everyone who has already left an audition! If you know someone who might like to try out for any of the aforementioned parts, feel free to direct their attention here!
Bio:
The main protagonist of the series. Although he is considered the strongest of all Pokémon, Mewtwo is among the lowest performing fighters in the monthly Melee tournaments; he frequently spends his time training, hoping to at least reach mid-tier recognition. Mewtwo is close friends with Pichu, and the two are inseparable.
Voice Type:
The only real requirement for Mewtwo's voice is that he should sound like a middle-aged man; slightly deep, relatively soft-spoken and reserved, but prone to great outbursts of emotion when provoked enough. Make sure you are able to emote properly during such scenes.
[giving helpful advice to Pichu]
Raw strength alone won’t bring you to the top. Notice how all the upper tier fighters rely equally on strength and technical skill when they battle.
[concerned]
If Zelda of all people is concerned, then it must be serious.
[furious]
Don't lecture me! Killing him will not only bring me my peace back, it will bring it back for all of us!
Bio:
The main antagonist. For the first few years of the Melee tournament, Fox was the undisputed champion: as time passed, he fell into a continuous losing streak and struggles to even best lower-tier opponents. In a plot to regain dominance, Fox seeks to rid the world of those who have defeated him and subjugate those too weak to win.
Voice Type:
I would prefer a voice that resembles Mike West's portrayal of Fox in both the Star Fox and Smash Bros. series. Fox's dialogue clips in Ultimate are a great reference.
[amicable, friendly]
That was a hard fought battle, Falco. Great match.
[scornful]
It isn't right... it just isn't. I'm supposed to be the top competitor... no one else.
[smug, in response to Link]
The Princess is quite safe, I assure you. In fact, I think I'll take you to her right now.
Bio:
Mewtwo’s life-long friend and the younger brother of Pikachu. Pichu is at the absolute bottom of the tier lists, mainly due to his young age and inability to properly hone his electric attacks. This doesn’t dampen his spirit whatsoever, and he works hard alongside Mewtwo to improve his skills. He's also very enthusiastic about Home-Run Contest, often monitoring Smashers who come close to setting a new record.
Voice Type:
Due to Pichu's young age, this role is open to both male VAs and female VAs who can pull off a "young boy" voice. Keep in mind that he shouldn't sound too young: the ideal age range for Pichu would be somewhere between 7 and 10 years old.
[after sparring]
Whew! You’re definitely getting better, Mewtwo. You might even win the next tourney!
[excited]
And Ganondorf didn’t even need the bat! He just punched that Sandbag and sent it flying!
[showing some slight concern for Mewtwo]
It might be exhaustion. We have been looking for Fox all day. Maybe you need some rest?
Bio:
The unofficial leader of the Smashers and, thanks to her alter ego Sheik, one of the current top competitors. Kind and empathetic towards everyone, she organizes the initial search party when Fox disappears. When she isn't relying on her Sheikah abilities, Zelda utilizes an array of magic attacks to catch opponents off guard.
Voice Type:
For Zelda, you should emphasize positivity and warmth, even though much of her dialogue occurs in serious scenes and situations: as such, be prepared to emote accordingly. As Sheik has little, if any, dialogue, there's no need to worry about auditioning for Sheik.
[congratulatory]
That was an amazing battle, Fox! Well done!
[worried]
I don't believe this was Ganondorf, Link. This... this was something else entirely.
[first half unsure, second half determined]
I don't know if it works that way. But if it means putting an end to this ordeal, it's certainly worth a shot.
Bio:
One of the high-tier fighters. Marth is personally embroiled in the conflict with Fox after Roy, his closest friend, vanishes when his back is turned. During the initial crisis, he works with Mewtwo to try and prevent further catastrophe.
Voice Type:
You can try any voice type for Marth so long as it matches a young man's voice. Those who try to emulate Yuri Lowenthal's portrayal will be given priority.
[commending Roy]
You're improving. Keep this up, Roy, and you'll reach the top in no time.
[worried]
Roy?! Roy!! This is impossible. He was with us the entire time! How could he disappear just like that?!
[fierce]
Enough talk! En garde!
Bio:
Fox's closest friend and rival, Falco was at one point the second best competitor in the Melee tournaments. He still maintained a close relationship with Fox even as he sank into bitterness, enough to show concern when he mysteriously vanishes after another loss.
Voice Type:
There are two types of voice you can go with: a portrayal based on Dex Manley (Falco's VA in Brawl, responsible for Falco's Brooklyn accent in said game), or a portrayal based on Mark Lund (Falco's current VA for both the Star Fox and Smash Bros. series).
[sportsmanlike]
You got lucky this time, Fox. But next time, I'm gonna be on top.
[slightly agitated, more out of concern for Fox]
I personally flew over as many places as I could in my Arwing, and still not a trace of him. That’s why I asked Zelda to get everyone together.
[cocky]
Give it up, Fox. We got you outnumbered 12 to 1!
Bio:
Marth’s friend and rival. Incredibly hot-blooded, Roy has a great passion for fighting and strives to become one of the top competitors. He is the second fighter abducted and corrupted by Fox; his disappearance is what spurs Marth into taking action.
Voice Type:
Like Marth, you are free to choose any voice type for Roy so long as it matches his age. Priority will be given to those who can emulate Ray Chase's portrayal of him from Fire Emblem Heroes and Smash Ultimate.
[joking]
Either I'm getting better, or you're slowing down, Marth.
[first half angry; second half composed, but melancholy]
Don't ever mention that to me again! (sighs) Sorry, Marth. I just... need some space, that's all.
[determined]
If there's anything I can do to lend a hand, just say the word. I'll gladly give you my blade.
Bio:
King of the Koopas and the most recent Melee tournament champion. After accidentally stumbling upon Fox, Bowser is corrupted and transformed into a soldier for Fox's new army.
Voice Type:
Very deep, guttural and gravelly. A very good vocal reference would be Tigura21's portrayal of Bowser in his machinima series Smash King.
[boastful, after winning the tourney]
Who's the King?! I'M THE KING!!
[aggravated]
There you are! What the hell are you doing way out here, Fox? Everyone's worried sick about you!
[to Ganondorf, discussing Home-Run Contest]
You’ve got the freaking Triforce of Power! That’s the only reason why you can hit it so far!
Bio:
The Gerudo King of Thieves and self-proclaimed "Great King of Home-Run Contest." Wielding the Triforce of Power makes Ganondorf incredibly powerful, in spite of his mid-tier reputation. Despite his intimidating nature, he isn't prone to villainy... though that doesn't stop him from earning the suspicion of a certain green-clad hero.
Voice Type:
Like Bowser, Ganondorf should sound deep, but nowhere near as gravelly: rather, there should be some elegance to his tone.
[smug]
Oh, come now, Koopa. Your record is pretty close at 3,248 feet.
[seething, gritting teeth]
Give me one good reason why I shouldn't just kill you here and now.
[triumphant, after winning a tourney]
Yes!! Bear witness to true power!! (triumphant laugh)
Bio:
Zelda's appointed protector and close friend. He believes that the mysterious happenings surrounding Fox are the work of something else, namely Ganondorf. His suspicions are put to rest after Fox attacks him, however.
Voice Type:
As with Marth and Roy, Link's voice is open to interpretation so long as it fits his age. Unlike the former two, however, you have complete freedom over he should be portrayed--no need to emulate another VA.
[suspicious]
A small part of me still thinks this is Ganondorf’s work. It just seems like something he would do.
[as Mewtwo & Marth prepare to rally the others]
Good luck, boys. You've got your work cut out for you.
[harshly]
You knew Zelda was captured and you didn’t think to tell me first?!
Bio:
One of the original Smash Bros. competitors. In his off-time, Mario acts as the resident doctor, operating out of Peach's Castle.
Voice Type:
Anything that resembles his voice from the various Mario cartoons in the 80s and 90s. As iconic as Charles Martinet's portrayal is, that voice type won't fit well with the overall serious tone of this series.
[defending Pichu]
I'll handle the Koopa creep! You find someplace safe, kid!
[nonchalant]
Don't mention it. You guys know I'm always available for treatment.
[puzzled]
But how do we fight something that can just make us disappear on a whim? Do we even know what's behind all this?
Bio:
Mario's brother. Unlike his brother, who plays at least some role in the plot, Luigi is often relegated to background scenes or moments where he interacts with his brother: as such, his character has little presence.
Voice Type:
Given Luigi's minimal role in the series, I'm a bit more loose with how he should sound. You can either match his voice from the Mario cartoons to go along with Mario's voice, or you can deviate and imitate Charles Martinet's portrayal.
[confused]
But why is all this happening? What's making everyone vanish?
[to Mario]
Uh, Mario? Where'd Fox just go? Roy's calling for an emergency meeting... about Fox.
[This line isn't in the script: just a test for those who want to imitate the cartoon Luigi voice]
That's Mama Luigi to you, Mario! (wheeze is optional)
Bio:
One of the original competitors and among the strongest overall. DK has a minimal presence in the series, mainly appearing in crowd shots: his only notable scene is being corrupted by Fox.
Voice Type:
I'm willing to go with three options: a typical deep and burly voice, a voice based on the Donkey Kong Country cartoon, or any combination of both.
[after waking up]
Huh? (yawns) Oh, hey Marth. They starting up the search for Fox again?
[moments before disappearing]
Ooh... suddenly I don't feel so hot.
[at first relieved, then confused]
Fox! There you are! Listen, do you know where the heck we are right now?
Bio:
One of the original competitors and Pichu's older brother. While Pichu has great significance to the plot, Pikachu only appears in one or two scenes: as such, his character has the least presence of all characters currently up for audition.
Voice Type:
With how small his role is, I'm opening up Pikachu to any vocal type as long as it falls into the "late teen/early adult" range.
[concerned]
Mewtwo, what's going on? Is everything alright?
[remorseful]
I'm sorry, Pichu. It's my fault you got put in danger...
[fierce]
THUNDERBOLT!!
