Dark Cloud: The Mini-Series (Part 1)
Project Overview
This will be a fan dub of the 2000 Playstation 2 game Dark Cloud by developer Level-5. There are over 100 characters with voices in this game. I will be releasing this as a 6-part series. I started this project years ago and have cast over half the voices already. This project went on the back burner for a long time, but now I'm finally gonna finish the job.
Toan is the main protagonist. He's from a small village called Norune. One night his world is rocked when his town is destroyed by an evil Dark Genie, a terrible presence that was sealed away from the world centuries ago, but has now been released. Much link Link in the Zelda series, Toan doesn't say a word, so he has no voice actor. Along the way, Toan picks up allies, eventually ending up with 5 allies for a team of 6. Together they collect what are known as Atla, which are the sealed buildings, trees, people, etc. of towns that the Dark Genie has destroyed. With the help of a special stone called Atlamillia, Toan takes these Atla and rebuilds the towns while reviving the people who live there.
This will be the first round of auditions. After all of this cast is recorded, I will be holding the next round of auditions. This will take a while to release. I'm gonna have the entire series ready to go before I release the first episode on YouTube. Some of these roles are quite substantial, so keep that in mind. Watch the trailer I made for this project a long time ago. It features some of the cast that I had recorded years ago. And thanks for your audition!

The Dark Genie is the main enemy, the super baddie of the game who is trying to take over the world. In the beginning of the game, he is released from an urn that he had been sealed away in for 400 years. After his release, he wreaks havoc on the world destroying many villages, including the hero's home, Toan. Throughout the game, the Dark Genie speaks through two different characters as he possesses their bodies: Seda and Flag. In the end, there is an ultimate showdown with the real Genie and Toan, the main hero of the game.
His voice should be very dark and sinister. Maybe something like Smaug from the Hobbit movies. I will alter the voice so it sounds more creepy. You can also try out a filter of your own, if you want, for the audition.
Do you remember me, boy? No? But then, when we met last, I didn't look like this. I congratulate you for coming this far. Well done. I really have no tangible physical form. I used this fool's body. The fool broke the urn's spell, blinded by greed. Then the mouse was to be my instrument, through this fool, to bring about the world's end... But enough with the sharing of secrets. Do you understand now? This long game was fun, but now I will end it. Listen well, Atlamillia boy. I will rule this land! And create an ideal world. An immaculate Eden where darkness rules. Now you will truly understand power! My power, the real Dark Genie's power. Your education begins!
Ha!
You failed… Boy from the future, you failed to change history. The
infinite power given to me can drink up the very flow of time. Beyond
time, I will reign over all… As long as human hatred runs pure and clear
I will exist without end!! This never-ending flow of dark power will
see me to the pinnacle of all that exists. Now come! Kneel before me!!
A mythical creature, like a giant rodent with wings. He is the guardian of Norune Village, the hometown of Toan. Toan's first encounter with Dran is not a happy one, as he is being controlled by the Dark Genie. Thus he becomes the very first boss match. Later on after Toan helps him gain freedom, Dran helps Toan get to Dark Heaven Castle, which is Seda's old castle and where the Dark Genie was born.
I'm looking for a wise mentor-type voice. Maybe like Gandalf or Qui-Gon Jin.
Mmmm…. What has happened to me? And who are you… What! You say I
was being manipulated? I, Dran, the God of Beasts!? What an
embarrassment. Hey kid, sorry about that. Hmmm... I see. So that's
what's been happening on the earth… The Dark Genie… that's what the old
man, the Fairy King, called it? If that's the case, we might be in
trouble.Way to go, kid. The villagers are happy now. I realized
what the old man, Simba, saw in you. You just might be able to beat the
Dark Genie. As a reward I will teach you a special technique, the
lethal Windmill Slash! It is a powerful charge skill that causes damage
to all enemies near you. Well, that's all I can do for now. So long,
kiddo!
Fairy King probably has the most lines of anyone in the game. This will be quite a lot of recording to do, so keep that in mind.
An elderly man who seems to have power over the elements and nature and the one who gives Toan his mission of restoring the world with the Atlamillia. It seems that he is in charge of all fairies, although no other fairies are mentioned, so this is not really known.
I'm looking for an old man voice, wise yet with a sense of humor. Maybe something like Master Roshi or Dumbledore.
Toan, can you hear them? You should be able to hear them.
Voices of the wind… Voices of the trees… Voices of the animals… And the
voices of earth.. They are all calling for your help. Toan, you will
probably meet and say goodbye to many people. In talking to these people
you may receive clues to defeating the darkness. Look for them. Now
Toan, your adventure will begin! First go to the village chief's house.
He'll show you where to go next.I'm back. Exciting, eh. Don't give me that look. This is
for your benefit. Now, here is the intermediate course. I won't repeat
myself so listen carefully. Don't forget the Guard function. It can save
you in the heat of battle. Also, did you know about the Attribute
Change function for your weapons? This changes weapon's elemental
attributes. There are 5 attributes: Fire, Ice, Thunder, Wind & Holy.
Many monsters are vulnerable to a specific attribute. What do you
think, easy, huh? Don't want to fry your noodle so that's enough info
for this time. Good luck to you boy! See you soon!
Devia is the middle of three sisters in the desert village of Muska Lacka. She acts as a peacemaker between her sisters Nagita and Mikara. Try to do a Polynesian accent. Or maybe an Indian accent. It's kind of flexible.
Hey!
Little boy! Hiya! I'm Devia, the middle sister of the three sisters.
Nice to meet you. Have you met my two sisters? Don't you think we're
pretty unique? Everybody says that we have totally different
personalities.You
are cool! I changed my mind about you. Oooh. I looove a strong man!
It's really great that those two are good friends now. But it's so
peaceful that it's a bit boring.
Flag is a military leader of some sort, a general or something. He looks kinda like a Nazi. He's paying for the ceremony to release the giant urn that is supposed to contain the evil Dark Genie. He should have something like a German accent.
How much money do you think I put into acquiring this urn? I've been waiting for this for years, and now the legendary power of the Dark Genie is mine!
Welcome back, Genie of Darkness. I broke the seal and released you. Therefore, I am your master.
What? This is… the Genie? The Dark Genie? (Surprised by the Dark Genie's appearance, but doesn't realize it's not the true Dark Genie he freed).
This is a pretty big role so take notice of that.
Osmond is the leader of the Moon People, who are basically sentient rabbits. Most of them have hoods up most of the time, making them look like Jawas. Osmond is inventive and has all these gadgets, including a helicopter pack he moves around with. He actually appeared in the game's sequel, Dark Cloud 2, where he had a voice. So listen to this video for reference and please match this voice as close as possible.

Seems like you're from Blue Terra. Why are you here? Genie? Oh, that. I saw it with the big telescope. That's not very much evil. Those Blue Terra folks really need help if they are troubled by so little evil. What? Seal it? You must be kidding! Sealing? That's like, extinct. Yikes! No one in Yellow Drops know how to seal, probably. Isn't that when you put something into an urn or something, right? No, that's impossible.
This is state-of-the-art of Yellow Drops technology. Let's say, it's like a super-sized golem, to make a long story short. The Sun Giant could easily knock out that genie! But then, this very Sun Giant ran sort of broke into pieces during the test drive. The magical gem we have now is not powerful enough to support the Sun Giant. We need a Pez Sphere to make the Sun Giant perfect. A Pez Sphere is one of the most powerful magical gems. If we use that, the Sun Giant will be able to operate at its best. It's been put up as a prize for a match at the Coliseum. If you could win the match, you can acquire it. Easy to say, but... winning a contest takes hard work. So then, let's join forces!
Fudoh is a mighty hunter and the father of one of the allies in the game, Goro. Well, he was a mighty hunter. He shows up as a spirit. He died in battle against a giant white snake. He should have a gruff voice, like that of a hunter, but still be a gentle father figure.
I'm sorry, Goro. Forgive me for having suddenly left you all alone. Goro, I'm no longer of this world. I am a spirit now. Before I died, I put a message for you into a pendant. The father you see is that message. Listen carefully Goro. The evil force that attacked this village is now devouring the entire world. With your allies, you must stop it. If you are really my son, then show me! Honor me and all hunters through your courage in battle.
My body was being gradually weakened by an illness. And I realized I had very little time left for myself. I was a prideful hunter. My pride would not allow me to die of illness. I wanted to die in battle as a hunter should. One day, I went into the woods where the fearful killer snake dwelt, taking with me several villagers. I thought the powerful Killer Snake would be a perfect opponent to end my career as a hunter.
King is the, well, king of a town called Queens. Apparently his name is King, or he just prefers to be referred simply as "King". And apparently he's an elected official? Of this very small merchant fishing town? Well anyways, he's rich, haughty, and comes off as kind of a mob boss. So maybe something like a New York accent would be appropriate.
Eh. This is no good. Commoners don't just walk in and talk to Mr. King. Little boy, please stop barging in trying to start a conversation.
Dahhhh! What!! King bullying a boy? Can you imagine the bad press?! No, no. You don't want bad rumors before the election… Ahh… What do we do?
Master Utan is a giant ape-like creature who guards the forest. He's probably immortal or something. He actually has a voice in Dark Cloud 2, so try to match this voice as close as you can. He only has a few lines, all of which are included in this audition.

Wh…whaaaat? What's happening to me? Who are you? Oh…really? I didn't know. Wow, that was my fault. I must apologize to you. That was uncalled for. Brownboo Village? Yes, I know it. It's where the little people are. Come on, I'll take you there. The little people's village is just over this rock. Oops... Hmm, you can't go any further, huh. Wait a sec. How's this? The curly haired village chief's not so fond of humans... so... Watch yourself there.
Treant is a giant sentient tree. You can take inspiration from Treebeard in Lord of the Rings or Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy. Also, there's one of his kind in Dark Cloud 2, where the characters all have voices. So that can also be used as inspiration.

Heh heh! So, tell me now, little one. Is it you who saved me?
Well! What a reserved young man you are. Yes, I know everything that happens here in these woods. I've seen it all. All your brave deeds. I can't have you saving my life without some kind of reward in return.
What? The village of the Moon People? Yes, I know it well. There is nothing that I don’t know about. Brownboo Village, that's what it's called. It's at the far end in the woods. But you'll have to use your head a bit if you want to get in. Understand what I mean.
Jake is the lackey of King, does his bidding. Just like any mob boss needs.
I never saw you before. I'm Jake. I am with Mr. King, the don of the town. Don't forget it. Toan? Strange name. But it's okay. It's not my business anyways.
