D&D Podcast

D&D Podcast

Project Overview

Hello everyone!

My name is Abby, and this is my first ever casting call! I’m kinda new to literally everything about this, so please bear with me!

What I’m looking to create is a podcast. This will be a story based cast, and will be told through the art of Dungeons and Dragons! I’m looking to build a party of around 5 people, with myself participating as the Dungeon Master.

If you need an example as to how this podcast might work, I would highly suggest the Adventure Zone! It is my main inspiration for this project and is definitely worth a listen.

What will participating in this project entail?

  • Well, I’m glad you asked! Participants will be required to partake in a D&D game over Skype, which can last anywhere from 1 to 4 hours long, depending on how much material we need to cover in each episode. These digital meets will happen every other week, and will always occur on the same day of the week, unless there is an emergency. This day will be decided when I have chosen the players.

  • Just to clarify, all players will be voice acting as their characters while we play. This means you may need a separate character voice or accent to use when your character is speaking, to give the audience a clearer difference between the player's thoughts and the character's.

Rules for Auditioning!

  1. Please have a Skype account before you audition, I will need it to contact you for call-backs.

  2. It is preferable that you have played D&D in the past, but this is not a deal breaker! You just need to be willing to learn the rules and follow them. If you haven’t played before, I would suggest watching a video on how to play on YouTube so you are familiar with the process.

  3. Please, please, PLEASE use a condenser microphone to record! It is so much easier for me to edit if you get in, and a better quality recording will give you better chances of getting in!

  4. Be willing to dedicate plenty of time to this project. If you don’t think you can stay dedicated, please don’t audition. This is a long term project.

  5. It would be great if you already had a set of tabletop RPG dice, but they’re easy to find if you need to buy some. All participants will be required to have their own dice.

  6. Have fun, and be kind!

Audition process

  1. Initial Auditions

    • Using the audition slot below, all auditionees will submit a recording of themselves describing their character for D&D. This can be an old character or a new one created specifically for the audition. If you are chosen, this is the character you will be using for the game, so it’s important that you like the character you create. If you want, you can audition with multiple characters. I’m looking for unique, developed, interesting characters to build an effective and intriguing party.

    • In your character description, you’ll need to include your character’s name, age, gender, race, class, stats, weapons, and anything else you think is integral to their character. Keep in mind, I may ask you to change small details about your character in order to give the party variety, so be willing to be flexible.

    • All characters must have a stat sheet prepared before auditions. A good website to help you build a stat sheet is Orcpub. Please be honest and only roll for stats once!

    • Please leave an email or phone number at the end of your audition tape so I have a way to record you if need be.

    • Also leave me your skype username so I can contact you through that if you get called back.

  2. Callbacks

    • I will hand-pick the people and characters I wish to call back, and I will notify you through email or text. This will probably be around 7–10 people. The audition will stay open until I have enough people I am ready to call back. The audition will close once callbacks begin.

    • Callbacks will consist of a one-on-one Skype call with me, camera optional, where I will ask you questions about your character. These questions will be the same for all the auditionees. This is simply a way for me to see how well you know your character, how developed they are, and for me to get to know you before we start playing.

    • I will choose the 5 players from those who were called back, and I will contact all of the called back auditionees to let them know who was and wasn’t chosen.

  3. Keeping in touch

    • It is imperative that the group of players stay in touch while I work on developing the arch. I won’t be able to complete the arch without knowing who the characters are. It may even be the summer of 2018 before we can begin playing, but I will keep all the players updated on my progress as the arch develops.

Unfortunately, I haven’t come up with a name for this podcast yet, but if you have any ideas, please add them in your recording or as a comment.

Thanks in advance for auditioning, and the best of luck to everyone!

Latest Updates

  • Deadline was extended to December 16

I decided to extend the deadline to when I start my winter break, that way more people can audition and I will have a couple of weeks off of school to do callbacks. I hope this doen't bother anyone!
  • Is this voice acting?

Just to clarify, all players will be voice acting as their characters while we play. This means you may need a separate character voice or accent to use when your character is speaking, to give the audience a clearer difference between the player's thoughts and the character's.
