Video Announcement!
I've made a casting call announcement video for the project! I've also added it to the page itself. Give it a watch!
CRATER FREAKS - Ranthorpe Asylum is a mixed media experimental YouTube horror webseries that chronicles various events within an asylum/testing facility located on the Earth's moon. The events are shown to the viewer in a pseudo nonlinear fashion -- where the viewer connects bits and pieces of the story together through strings of text chains, audio diaries, and brief videos.
As stated in the title and description, the series will predominantly take place on YouTube, but will eventually split and branch off onto other websites that feature downloadable files and such whenever need be.
And due to the fact that it's being worked on by pretty much one singular person (me!), I cannot guarantee any sort of release dates -- at least not right now.
I want to cast and finalize the dialog that I need to get done in order to kick everything off -- and more dialog might be recorded in the future!
I appreciate your contributions and auditions! I can't wait to work with you.
No Generative AI will be used in this project.
Any auditions using generative AI will be excluded.
I've made a casting call announcement video for the project! I've also added it to the page itself. Give it a watch!
I've made an extension for the casting call! I'm gonna give some more time for the roles that have a lot less auditions. I want to have a good variety of auditions across the board to make a good and proper decision for every character.
The stuff I've been hearing so far has been great! Keep it up!
Maraline is one of the Asylum’s most dangerous patients. She’s a gifted shapeshifter from Venus who became infatuated with the human female form during her rehabilitation program. Day in, day out, her mind twisted and corrupted by the whim of the desire to achieve absolute beauty -- a perfection beyond humanity's cruel and unforgiving beauty standards.
For this character, I’m looking for someone with a mid to slightly lower tone of voice who can really sell seductive, yet unsettling dialog. Think of her as a manipulative femme fatale, and the voice may come to you! While an American accent is preferred, others are more than welcome for you to experiment with.
(Casual, light playfulness) You could say I’ve grown a bit… attached to these little “models” you’ve been showing me. She’s a stunning form, isn’t she? Does she remind you of anybody you may recognize?
(Sinister, breathy) Once I realized that they had simply reduced me to something that they wished to touch… to ravish… I reduced that issue to an absolute zero. Now I live in a world where my beauty is singular and absolute – mine and mine alone to hold.
(Sinister, breathy) I left this little message for you, human. The moment your eyes find mine will be the last imperfect thing you will ever do. (Laughing)
Lawmaster is a hulking mass of a patient at the Asylum who was put under intensive treatment to study and adapt to human law. However, upon seeing the abominations and moral contradictions that plague human society, he took it upon himself to reinvent the law for people like him to live in peace.
For this role, I’m looking for someone who has a deep, gravelly, authoritarian sounding voice. Think of a big burly politician.
(Stern, declarative) We cannot be made human. Humanity is not our cure, my people! It is a condition — it’s all so temporary and often delusional, you see. You do not bring order by mimicking disorder!
(Calm, easy-going) I assure you, my friends, we have escaped the chains that sought to hold all of us back! We’ve no need to panic or spark more riots amongst ourselves.
(Stern, worried) The thought of what stirs just right outside of my beloved city startles me. I was led to believe that our moral qualms with the outside world were over… But those Martians seek to dish out their revenge tenfold. Regardless of what they think, my people will be kept safe…
Joseph Ranthorpe — the man behind the Asylum. Being an idealistic business magnate turned his initial efforts of kindness cold. He is the creator and overseer of the alien rehabilitation program.
For this role, I’m looking for someone who can pull a convincing “older man” voice with a cold, unfeeling tone with a high standard of professionalism. He is a secondary antagonist. The voice should be reminiscent of TV acting from the 1950s.
(Professional, calm) Why, hello there. My name is Joseph Ranthorpe and this is my masterpiece; Ranthorpe Asylum. You, my friend, are in the stomping grounds of one of mankind’s greatest achievements in the sciences. Here, we offer sanctuary and structure for those who have none - our friends among the stars. Some may see them as simple monsters or lost causes, but we see them all as individual opportunities.
(Professional, moderately upset) It appears that I have to remind all of you in Med/Sci once again that you are all forbidden from conversing with any of the patients unless given explicit permission.
(Sinister, quiet) As I walk through the cell blocks, all I hear are profanities and alien languages cursing the very ground I walk upon — Yet the silence from me should remind them all that I’m always one phone call away from taking that free will away…
Dr. Celine Morrow is one of the oldest doctors at the Asylum. She takes care of some of the more physically unstable patients, and tends for their wounds whenever they get harmed. She is constantly swamped with difficult work, making her disgruntled and oftentimes upset.
For this role, I’m looking for someone with a mid tone of voice, with a British accent. Her voice should be reminiscent of TV acting from the 1950s.
(Angry) So, Jared has just demoted me in response to the recent incidents regarding my assigned patients. Tell me, Jared, what was I supposed to do? What part of dissecting the heart of an alien life form doesn’t involve potential death? The thing couldn’t even breathe as they wheeled it into the operating room! It wasn’t my fault!
(Frustrated) Once again, I’ve been assigned to work with Splitbang. I’ll tell you, that one is long gone. There’s no fixing whatever’s rattling in that brain of his. We broke him, and I guess we’re paying that price.
(Calm, collected) I’m sorry I couldn’t make it today. Things at the office have been pretty rough. We lost a few of them this morning. I’ll get back to you as soon as I can settle things.
Bertram is one of many psycho-analysts within the Med/Sci facility in Ranthorpe Asylum. His work is careful and very deliberate, making himself out to be a strong role model for his peers.
He should have a very casual, normal tone of voice. He is a bit of an older man, so keep that in mind.
(Calm, glad) Oh no, Miss Maraline, I’m not here to perform an experiment. I’m just here to give one of my favorite patients a little bit of a mental checkup! Have you been studying?
(Unnerved) I am unsure of this particular patient. Perhaps it is merely excelling in the process of its treatment. Perhaps it is learning too much. Who can really say?
(Breathy, restless) Once more I find myself attempting to fall asleep as the neverending wails and screams from down the hall persist through the night. I don’t even care if we… “fix” these infernal aliens. I just want their pain to stop.
Holly Kim has a much smaller role in the Med/Sci facility. She works as a nurse, and she’s responsible for frequently checking up on patients as they recover from injuries or their intensive treatment. She is deeply afraid of Maraline, who frequently targets her.
For this role, I’m looking for someone who has a higher, more timid voice who is comfortable with doing a lot of “horror based” sequences.
(Sad) It wasn’t my intention to come here all by myself. While I greatly appreciate the opportunity that Mister Ranthorpe gave me, I had no idea what kind of… terrible things awaited me here. I want to go home…
(Hopeful, glad) I met with Thomas the other day. He told me he trusts me enough to keep him company. I don’t care if I’m missing checkups anymore… I just want somebody human to talk to.
