Coretown: Stranger Things Than Death
Project Overview
Auditions will run from February 16th 2025 to April 6th 2025. This is an unpaid project as I do not have the funds to pay anyone. It is simply a passion project. If Coretown happens to gain enough attraction that it starts to make some money, you will be compensated. However, that cannot be promised right off the bat.
Anyone can audition regardless of gender, or skill. If you think you can audition then audition! Character genders can be adjusted to make you comfortable as an actor, though their names are set in stone.

You must have a microphone of some kind as well as a discord. Discord is where all communication will take place. If you don’t have a microphone right now but one is on the way/you plan on getting one, let me know in your audition tape what microphone you’re getting and I will still consider your audition.
I am in eastern standard time (EST). You do not have to be in this timezone to audition, however be aware that recording may fall on early mornings or late nights if there are time zone differences.
Depending on how well the first season goes, there may be a second season. Please keep this in mind. You are committing to one season for sure, but possibly more.

Matt Scryer is in their early 20's, they do not need any specific style of voice. Anyone of any race or gender can audition. Matt is a charismatic person, being a leader in almost every group and trying to do their best to help. They’re the oldest of the Scryer siblings, trying to help their sibling to find their footing in their world. Currently, Matt is presumed dead. Though, there might be something more to Matt than they previously let on.

(Talking to JAYCE, trying to be supportive) I think if there was anyone, ANYONE, who could figure out anything that was thrown at them. My bets would be on you.

Kal is in their early 20’s, they do not need any specific style of voice. Anyone of any race or gender can audition. Kal is a fiery character, having anger issues and constantly lashing out. Matt was Kal’s only friend as they were the only one to stick around. Kal feels guilty for Matt’s death and is currently grieving.

(KAL is getting into a fight) Hey! Look at me when I talk to you Jayce, look at me! Oh, that’s so like you, isn’t it? Matt’s been dead for, what? A week? And you’re already replacing him with some new prick to fight your battles for you?
(KAL seems to be losing it, seeing something that isn’t happening, whether it’s something that happened to them or imagination is unclear) [with despair and anger]Always acting like you’re better, and yet you left everything behind, you left me behind, you-you traitor! [with snarling spite]I hate you. I HATE YOU!
(KAL voice is choked, trying very hard not to cry) I don’t want to die like this! I don’t want to die mad, I don’t want to die with this anger, this hate. Why do you make it so difficult? Why couldn’t he just listen? Why couldn’t he just trust me?
Cass Elrod is a young adult, they do not need any specific style of voice. Anyone of any race or gender can audition. Cass is one of the neighbors in the Heart Haven Hotel, staying next door to Jayce. Cass becomes friends over the course of the season, though the reason why they are at the hotel is largely unknown. They are oddly charismatic. They were born in Coretown and have stayed here all their lives, they were also homeschooled. They like making jokes, even if it’s not particularly the right time to.
[Bonus points if you can whistle! If you can it’d be wonderful to hear a whistling excerpt with the audition recordings but it is fully optional. I repeat, whistling is just bonus, and will not majorly affect the casting]

(JAYCE and CASS are sitting together and bantering) [With tears in their eyes, jokingly]Hey babygirl, is it just me or were you about to die gruesomely?
(Trying to start a game) [excited, joking]Yes! He’s an international secret spy, and he’s doing...something- c’mon, now all you have to do is build on that!
[somber, almost coming to terms with it]You can see the whole world outside of here, bustling about in their own life. That kid is arguing with his mom for ice cream, they have their family, with their own lives, and things that we’ll never know about. Isn’t that something?
Chris is a young adult, they do not need any specific style of voice. Anyone of any race or gender can audition. Chris is one of the neighbors in the Heart Haven Hotel. Chris has been described by other characters as having a “golden-retriever energy” to them. Trying to help wherever they can, being a type of glue between people. Not to say they are naive, they’ve dealt with some bad experiences, and came out of it with optimism. They are often seen with Harvey Thatcher, who Chris looks up to as something like a parental figure.

(CHRIS is welcoming JAYCE into their apartment, and are excited at their arrival) [excited/rambling, apologizing for excitement)Right, yes, sorry-just excited, finally having 4 people around for game night. We don’t have that many people in the hotel who are-I’m rambling, come in, come in!
(venting to JAYCE about their near-death experience) [progressively more shaky/nervous]God, it’s like...you always have this...idea of-of how’d you act when faced with-with death. And then you see it, you come face to face with it and it’s wearing a rabbit mask and staring into your eyes like-like-
[somber, contemplating]What do you want to be in your life? We’ve only got one, right? One life to make ourself into something we like?
Harvey Thatcher is in their mid 30’s-40’s, they do not need any specific style of voice. Anyone of any race or gender can audition. Harvey is one of the neighbors in the Heart Haven Hotel. Harvey exudes an energy of a trustworthy neighbor, despite their intimidating stature. Harvey has fought in wars, having military experience, which allows them to be intimidating/scary when the need arises. They came here in order to find his daughter who has seemingly disappeared. Harvey is often seen with Chris, having something akin to a parental bond with them.

[Comforting, understanding]It’s more than obvious something happened to you, something bad. But Jayce, it’ll hurt more if you’re alone. The worst thing anyone can be in this town is alone.
[Intimidating]Run, run and pray. Pray and hope that something else gets you before I do. Pray that you die before I find you- and I will find you- because it’ll be God's final mercy on you. Run and pray.
Alice Flemming is a young adult, they do not need any specific style of voice. Anyone of any race or gender can audition. Alice is one of the neighbors in the Heart Haven Hotel. Alice is also an intern at CTN, Coretown New organization, and wishes to become a full-fledged reporter in time. Due to this, they are currently investigating mysterious disappearances around the Heart Haven Hotel, hoping to find a big break. They are often seen with Finn Young, Alice’s best friend who tags along with Alice’s frequent adventures.

(ALICE seems sick) [weary and weak, and so very tired]I didn’t even get that far. I just drove and drove, my GPS failed me, I bought some maps and I kept winding up in the middle of nowhere, I was driving in circle and-and-
Finn Young is a young adult, they do not need any specific style of voice. Anyone of any race or gender can audition. Finn is a neighbor in the Heart Haven Hotel. Finn is a nervous individual, but can be very confrontational towards anything that could be hurtful towards Alice. Finn currently has a job in Ichor Futurity Technology as a Junior Scientist/Researcher. They tend to follow anywhere that Alice goes, which is why they are currently tagging along in Alice’s investigation/obsession with the mysterious disappearances around Heart Haven Hotel.

[Somber]No, I get it. I remember when my parents died, I was a piece of shit to Alice then. But y’know what’s funny? They didn’t leave.
Bill Harrison is in their mid 30s-40s, they do not need any specific style of voice. Anyone of any race or gender can audition. Bill’s official job title within the Heart Haven Hotel is Head of Security. Since the current hotel manager is unknown/missing, Bill has assumed control, acting as the current hotel manager. Bill is a cordial person on the surface, but has a deep paranoia, fear, and mistrust of everything around them. With Bill’s large stature, Bill easily acts intimidating towards many of the people around them, using intimidation and fear to make people fall in line.

(BILL has become uncharacteristically paranoid) [as if ranting about a boss]Cause they’re a fucking idiot! A pretentious religious zealot wearing clothes too big for them to fit in! They have no right to wear that Deer mask!
Claire Harper is in their mid 20s-30s, they do not need any specific style of voice. Anyone of any race or gender can audition. Claire’s official job title within the Heart Haven Hotel is Head of Maintenance Supervisor. She works at the front desk, often being the first face to introduce guests. Claire is a person who tries to be willfully ignorant, trying to ignore the problems in front of her. Claire keeps the facade of a smiling employee on her face, acting cordial and welcoming to guests.

[oddly nervous]Er, Bill! Mr Scryer here just can’t seem to keep a hold on himself.
The Deer is assumed to be in their mid-20s, they do not need any specific style of voice. Anyone of any race or gender can audition. The Deer is an intimidating character, wearing what seems to be a wooden Deer mask. They’re loud and charismatic through their undeniable fervor, which some see as erratic and inane. They speak in religious language/diction and have taken an interest in Jayce for an unknown reason. It is unknown how much they know and how much of a danger they are to other characters.

[Leaning forward, pushing boundaries, creepy] Scryer? Remind me, isn’t that the family name of our good ol’ mayor? Alairic Scryer? By any chance, are you related to him?
(The DEER is preaching to a large group of people, it is loud and imposing, it is charismatic through its undeniable fervent devotion) [Preaching, in fervent devotion]So open your hearts, bare your soul unto me and I will return in kind! May we stand together in this freezing and cold world! May we find the warmth within ourselves and our siblings next to us! May we find the love that we seek! [slow, deliberate, and desperate]May we find that we are not alone in this world.
The Mouse(Younger) seems to be a young child. Anyone of any race or gender can audition. They are named after the wooden mouse mask that they wear. They speak in the third-person and stutters. The Mouse is often seen following the Deer with a cat named “Mr Scratch” in tow. They seem to be incredibly nervous and fearful of almost everything around them, mainly the Deer, but still keeps a deep desire to help people. They speak about themself in the third person.
[I highly recommend audition for both of the Mouse characters if you auditioned for one as it is possible that I will cast one person for both characters if the opportunity arises and if I’m able to find someone who can voice a younger character as well as an adult character]

[panicked, trying their help]Cloud. Follow that cloud. It won’t move. It waits. It leads.
The Mouse(Older) seems to be a young adult, they do not need any specific style of voice. Anyone of any race or gender can audition. They are named after the wooden mouse mask that they wear. Unlike the Mouse(Younger) they seem to be much more cynical in nature. It is unknown what their relationship is with the other masked characters. It also seems they’re working on a project in a forest.
[I highly recommend audition for both of the Mouse characters if you auditioned for one as it is possible that I will cast one person for both characters if the opportunity arises and if I’m able to find someone who can voice a younger character as well as an adult character]

[Vulnerable]Mom, it’s me- do you see me? Mom?
The Owl seems to be a elderly person, they do not need any specific style of voice. Anyone of any race or gender can audition. They are named after the wooden owl mask that they wear. Despite their rather old age, they keep a surprisingly high level of energy and enthusiasm for everything around them. They currently work as a librarian, their one true love being their books which they keep close to their heart. Unlike the other masks, the Owl is incredibly open with the information that they hold.

(Rambling excitedly on a subject they have researched) No explanation, no clues, no leads, nothing. Except for one survivor. A little boy, Jack Keller was his name. He said he was “flung out of the train before it disappeared, seeing nothing but a blinding bright light”.
“Work together”? (THE OWL laughs, finding this hilarious) No-no, we are not all that...ah, what’s the word kids say for it...“tight”? Oh the youth’s vernacular! Very charming, can never keep up. Time flies much too fast! (THE OWL laughs again, to herself, good naturedly)
