Conflicting Shadows (Retrospection Radio S2 E2)
Project Overview
The second episode of Season 2. Conflicting shadows tells the story of two soldiers at two separate times, a father and son. Seth, Marcus, and Decimus are infantry in the IMS (Intelland Military Service), and are relaxing in base one day. After a conversation, Seth removes himself from the tent for a smoke break. Years later, Seth's son Marshall is at the same camp. He's on patrol around the area at night when he stumbles across the battlefield of the dead. Phantoms and wraiths roam the plains at night. Will Marshal search among soldiers long since passed for answers, or will he attempt to leave and save himself?

Seth Vance is the father of Marshall Vance. He is a loving and caring father who has spent his life in the military. He joined when he was young, and married his wife not too long after arriving home from his first tour. He is a strong and capable leader, knowing what to say to each individual soldier to keep them focused. He also has capable combat wit that allows him to make split second decisions while under fire. He is calm and analyzing.
Marcus, you got a family? Somebody at home you can go back to? Pretty girl? Kids?
Look, we’re going to have to work as a squad out there. If you can’t work together, then you’re going to get us all killed. Do you understand?
I miss you. All of you. You’re a thousand miles away, yet I can feel you here with me right now. I guess I have your love to remember you by. This war, Joanie. I never wanted to be apart of it. I never wanted to come here. I just wanted to be home with you, with Marshall. Intellend is fighting this impossible war. It’s been so long that we’ve all forgotten why we started it.
Marcus is a young adult who has recently joined the military. This is his first tour on the edge of the Inland Sea. He has never seen combat, and has devoted his career to attempting to help others. Due to Intelland's policies, Doctors must serve in the military before being able to practice within the city. Marcus is a jumpy, shell-shocked man who would leave if he could. He stutters, he avoids eye contact, and is ultimately a very weak presence.
(Shocked) I held him in my hands... Dying... Bleeding... In my hands...
I just got off the boat...
(Trying to focus on something besides the dead men he saw) I just got married right before I left. Beautiful girl named Bettius. God, if I knew war was like this… It’s not how it’s portrayed in the movies… It’s not how my brothers, my dad… Everyone always said it was glorious fighting for the Monarchy. It’s like Intellend brainwashes you.
Decimus is a battle hardened soldier recently transferred to Seth's squad. He is unkind, sarcastic, and genuinely unhappy. He does, however, respect authority, and will always have your back in combat. He is gruff.
Welcome to No Man’s Land, best place on Proximus. Population: a metric ton of soldiers crying for their mommy’s and a metric ton of corpses. (Sarcastically) People die. Some don’t. Deal with it.
I personally like to remember the faces of every Eternal Trooper I’ve killed. Each and every one of them deserved it.
(Snatching the picture) Oh she’s beautiful, bet you and her stayed up all night and…
The daughter of Seth Vance. She is young, between 5 and 8, and misses her daddy. One-liner.
I miss daddy. When will he be home?
The wife of Seth Vance. Misses her husband. One-liner.
I don’t know, baby. I don’t know.
Marshall Vance is a soldier in the IMS. He is the son of Seth Vance, and the right hand man of Galahad Eris. This is his origin story as he eventually because a super villain with cryokinesis. He is a quiet man who follows orders. He is very gruff. His ultimate goal is to see the enemy destroyed no matter what and at little cost to the people of Intelland. THIS ROLE IS A YEARLY ROLE! IF YOU ARE CAST IN THIS ROLE, YOU ARE COMMITTING TO PORTRAYING IT ALL YEAR (WHICH MAY MEAN A FEW LINES EVERY TWO MONTHS UNTIL JANUARY 2020).
They wouldn’t dare attack at night. They don’t have the stones.
Great George’s Ghost! That’s Great General George! He was the best tactician and swordsman Intelland had ever seen! He captured the lands of Woodsburry, Combsburry, Grimsfield, and he pushed the frontline to… here. It makes sense now. I’m in the company of spectres. Phantoms of the battlefield.
They appear to be reliving a battle. As much as a ghost can live. The battle where General George dies.
Ghost of dead soldiers.
Say something you think would fit if you're a dead ghost on a battlefield fighting other dead men for millennia.

The specter of John Chadwick. He was a soldier for the Eternal Army and the husband of the late Breanne Chadwick (S1: Combsburry Plague). He is a convincing man, able to lure people to their fates. Charming. But also terrible and terrorizing. Almost like the "Marley' (A Christmas Carol) of the show. However, unlike Marley, John has ulterior motives.
This place is haunted. By myself and many, many more dead men. I cannot be freed from my afterlife, not after the life I’ve lived, but they can. They’re men who taken so many souls that it can’t possibly hurt them to take more. I’ve come to warn you to turn back. Leave. Leave before you end up life us.
You should be. Every evening, as the clock strikes one, we appear to the naked eye. Only then can they feast. Anyone who knows of this place has been devoured or escaped the battlefield to never kill again.
The city… Yes. Combsburry… There are more. Plenty more wraiths. Nobody is living is safe from the dead.
