Celestival the Podcast Musical
Project Overview
Welcome to Celestival!
This casting call is for an original podcast with songs that drive the plot along (aka a Musical) with a run time of about 2 hours. This podcast is set in an alternate universe filled with magic, ghosts, Celestial beings and more! The podcast is about 80% singing, 20% lines, and 100% awesome! Much of the story was inspired by this painting "The Great Comet of 1680 over Rotterdam" by Lieve Verschuier (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Comet_of_1680) and Red Velvet's album "The ReVeLuv Festival" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-m9R9oPLnWc)
We're casting for a unique set of voices to be used in the show. If you are casted for a main role, we will be asking you for your discord and a snippet of you singing a song from the musical (which we will provide). We do not provide sheet music, so be prepared to learn melodies by ear. If you're not cast for a main role, and your voice matches the tone of the show, we may ask you to provide lines for supporting roles in the production.
All roles are in the English language. We do ask that Joy has a Texan accent. All other roles can have any or no accent, it's up to the actor to decide.
There will be no payment for this project. It is completely volunteer based. However, (I may be biased) you are going to have a blast with what we have in store. The show is a lot of fun, and I hope to see many of you audition.
We will showcase all of our voice actors on our website and in every video we post on YouTube. This includes (if wanted) voice actors photo, biography, contact information and links to a demo reel. Voice actors are also listed verbally in the credits of the show.
PODCAST OVERVIEW
Celestival (Celestial+Festival) tells the story of 4 entertainers, 1 guest, and 1 ghost at a festival of stars. Pandora, a spirit trapped in the house of mirrors, must use the power of Theila, a comet, in order to return to the living dimension. Meanwhile, Soleia seeks to bring back her parents from the dead and Iris wishes for her own happily ever after. Mix in a love triangle, business-woman Madame Mula, and the always unexpected Yuka, and things turn upside-down in this world of laughter, love, and chaos. The show will be produced like a live show, with atmosphere and sound effects (for examples, please look at our soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/user-707467342 ). The show has a total of 17 songs and the script is 46 pages.
DEADLINES
The deadline for auditions is March 1st, 2021. There are currently no plans to extend this deadline, as the show is ready to release to voice actors. We'll notify voice actors who have been cast in roles by March 15th and send scripts and audio files to voice actors by April 1st. We are aiming for receive all lines back from voice actors by May 30th, but we want this musical to be as amazing as possible, so we are open to extending the deadline for our voice actors if it means a better production in quality.

(15) Youngest performer at Celestival with a sweet voice. She is also super obsessed with love, just being in love. She looks up to everyone and has a crush on Yuka.
Hmmm, I have this charm Soleia made for my stage fright. It seems to calm the voices in my head. Here. Wear it around your neck until the uh "Waaamp" disappears.
I cannot wait to tell Yuka! We are going to have so much fun together, I might actually faint. Wait, no I’m just hungry! I wonder what Yuka likes to eat...
(A Crash followed by shattering glass is heard from downstairs)
What the heck was that?
(20s) The Witchdoctor of Celestival. She is best friends with Joy, and has a bit of a temper. She also holds a grudge for pretty long. Inside, however, she’s a sweetheart with a wish to see her parents again. She accidentally killed them when she was 10 and was given Theila’s magic powers in the House of Mirrors.
(This should be annoyed) What idiot walks onstage during a live performance?! Ms. Mula, let’s banish that twit from Celestival.
(Like your a ring leader) Tonight’s show will be unforgettable.
Tonight the dead shall get to rest, and vengeance shall be at it’s best.
(talking to your closest friend) I don’t want to be trapped in regret anymore. I don’t want the pain.
Trapped between the living world and the dead world, Pandora is desperate to escape the wretched house of mirrors. She's willing to risk it all just to be human again. (20s) Main Character. She is hit with a comet on accident and now must wait until her death date, 50 years later. However, her obsessiveness over living has shifted her morals, especially before the day she must die.
At a carnival? Wait no. (reading) “Celestival Festival Grand Opening” Hmmm. (getting up from floor) Excuse me, sir, funny question, I know I should probably know this, but where am- (shook) He just walked right through me...(realizes she can’t see herself) Where are my hands, my feet?! (sees a mirror) What is happening? I can see myself in that mirror. This is too freaky.
Yuka (pronounced you-kah), If you don’t go through with this, I die, ok? I’ll die and you’ll have to live the rest of your miserable life knowing that you ceased someone’s life. Understand?
Anyway, there’s a beautiful view at Shrew peak where we can watch Theila cross over again. We should go. (more to herself) In about two hours and 4 minutes...38, 37, 36
(70s) The owner and Ringleader of Celestival. Mula always makes sure her guests are entertained and rightfully ripped off. Her main priority is maximizing Celestival’s profits and caring for the girls: Iris, Joy, and Soleia. However, her obsession with money has led her down a path she’s not proud of, and wonders if there’s hope to start again. Sounds like any news anchor ever, and she's smiling all the time.
(Very over the top) Ladies, Gents, Those from near and far, Welcome to the 50th annual Celestival Festival!
(To your daughter) Come in. Iris, butterfly, How are you?
(To your best friends) Celestival… it’s brought me a lot of wonderful things. Fame, fortune, family, but it’s time I follow my star. Time I follow my heart.
(18) Just a regular guest at Celestival. They also have a “voice” inside their brain, which is basically all of their negative thoughts telling them how to live. They also have to constantly check that they are alive by doing dangerous, rude, or unnecessary things, just to feel something. Yuka is not their real name. They also have like a deadpan voice sometimes.
Celestival Festival? I’m not 5. Not everything has to rhyme...I hate commercialism
(after eating one of the Clown's juggling apples on stage, you notice everyone in the audience is looking at you, stunned) Oh, uh, hi
Is my existence greater than hers? No, of course not. But is her’s greater than mine? What kind of scale can you measure meaning? Instead I’m clinging on another being. Just like me. How insignificant it may seem. If I live on, Pandora will be gone. In the end, we’re all stuck in this nanosecond time frame anyway.
(20s) The clown that keeps Celestival laughing. Originally from the South, She is bffs with Soleia and loves to make people laugh. She’s an empath, which means she acts like a sponge soaking up all of your emotions and feels them herself. She is extremely happy most of the time, imagine if PInkie PIe and Mable Pines were somehow one person who works as a clown from Texas.
(Trying to convince Soleia that she is not a bad person. This should be extremely serious) You’re-you’re Mula’s magic star, You’re Iris’ role model, you’re my best friend.
(stand up comedian vibes) You folks are just lovely! Anyone here on a special occasion? Oh! A honeymoon? Well honey I think you’re doing it wrong if you’re here, you’re on your honeyearth.
(Crying sounds that slowly morph into laughing sounds)
Rapper! The Voice control's Yuka's emotions, and is sort of like Yuka's conscience. If auditioning, please be prepared to rap every line given.
Yuka you can’t be so mindless and blank.
You’re gulping on life like a fish out the tank.
Why do you hide from life and resist?
You’re too scared to feel. Afraid to exist?
Hey why don’t you scream, break out of this cage?
Imagine what’d happen with Yuka onstage?
(Beatboxing noises)
You think you can help? take a look at yourself.
A busted up bit can’t fix a shattered shelf.
Now I say use the situation.
And diffuse your isolation.
As the ensemble, you will play the Star people, Celestival performers, Celestival attendees, and even voices in people's heads! All vocal types are welcome and needed.
