Castlevania: Symphony of the Night Game Dub (Shaft, Ferryman, and Master Librarian Voices needed!)

Project Overview

Hello all! My name is Mojo Lecrowe and I am second in command over at Eclipsed Dubz and the director of the Castlevania: Symphony of the Night game dub which you see auditions for before you now! This is Eclipsed's first game dub project (as we were mostly a comic dubbing channel for quite some time) and I hope to knock it out of the park! For the project, I am shooting for either a mid or late November 2019 release.

For those unfamiliar with Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, the game is a platforming, action-adventure RPG made by Konami in 1997. The game follows a non-linear structure in which the player finds various upgrades to explore a sizable map, kind of line a maze that has many locked doors that you need to find keys to. In fact, with Nintendo's 1994 classic Super Metroid, coined the term "Metroidvania" for games of a similar structure. Symphony of the Night is well regarded as one of the greatest video games of all-time, although the original 1997 release is often the subject of jokes due to it's often considered laughable voice acting. Symphony of the Night got a rerelease on the PlayStation Portable in Casltevania: Dracula X Chronicles as a hidden unlockable, with that version actually featuring an all new script and new voice actors (most likely to keep things consistent with the voice cast of the Castlevania: Rondo of Blood remake which was the main meat of Dracula X Chronicles). For this project, we'll be dubbing both versions of the script with both versions being uploaded concurrently in parts!

Regarding voice actors, we need three voices for three characters, those being Shaft, the Ferryman, and Master Librarian! Details about the characters specifics will be in the description for their roles! Please make sure you put some emotion into it! You are more than welcome to audition for all three roles but know if you are cast, you will only get one roleThe deadline of the auditions is subject to change, but please don't bank on it changing! Also, if you are cast for either Shaft or the Ferryman, you may be contacted at a later date way down the line to reprise your role for a potential Rondo of Blood fandub! Of course, if you wish not to reprise your role at that time, you are more than welcome to decline! A minor thing to mention is that reverb will be added to your audio by me so it can fit the game better (as that's how the audio sounds in both versions of the game), but please don't worry about adding it in your audition! And one last thing for auditions. Even if I say I prefer a given voice, please go for what makes you comfortable and who knows? You may in fact get the part! Just be sure to keep your voice consistent between both the original and DXC lines please!

If you have any questions at all, you are more than welcome to privately message me here or message me on Discord (my ID being Mojo Lecrowe#9827). Also, it should be noted that a Discord account is not mandatory for participation in this project, but it is recommended for convenience.

Shaft is one of Dracula’s most devout servants during the 16th century. Admittedly, Shaft has had a limited amount of appearances in the franchise, only appearing in a handful of games excluding remakes. However, from his appearances, it’s easy to discern that he has immense respect for Dracula as well as Alucard (though his respect towards him may be more towards his capabilities) and is just about as evil as Dracula is. He could also be responsible for the madness going on with Richter…

Voice wise, Shaft is about midrange to low. He has a slight graveliness to his voice, but only slight. His original VA is Jeff Manning (who played the original Smash Announcer and Master Hand) and his DXC VA is Tony Oliver (who was Lancer in Fate/Stay Night: UBW).

  • “All hail the son of our master! Stronger than the mightiest hunter!” – In a praising way. (DXC)

  • “But... but my goal is achieved... Count Dracula has come to purify this corrupt world with the searing flames of chaos!” – After being beaten by Alucard. He should sound as if he’s dying, yet with a hint of triumph at his master’s return. (OG)

There’s not much to describe with the Ferryman. He shows up in quite a few games in the series and serves the role of taking the player character across a body of water, seeing as how the Belmonts can’t really swim. He’s possibly a servant of Dracula’s, due to him referring to Alucard as “Prince” in the DXC translation, but he’s not malevolent or at the very least he’s harmless.

Voice wise, this guy has about as polarizing a voice difference between both versions as Alucard. In the original, he’s quite shrill but in DXC, he’s got a more quiet and deep voice. I do prefer his original voice but go for whatever you see fit!

  • “I’ll take you to a place that might be interesting for you, eheheheheheh…” -He sounds mildly sinister, but he’s more amused in this line. This is said when riding his ferry the first time. (OG)

  • “Thy destiny awaits, o Prince.” -In a polite and dignified manner. Again, he’s quite different in this version. He says this when Alucard boards his ferry a second time. (DXC)

The Master Librarian is a servant of Dracula and Alucard and is very loyal to both, though he’s more loyal to the former. This is evident when Alucard asks for his assistance in granting him items to defeat his father. However, once Alucard tells the old man that he won’t go unrewarded, his allegiances seem to shift…

Voice wise, humorously, he has the same voice actor as the Ferryman in both versions. Strangely, he’s not that different sounding in both versions like his voice over brother. In OG, he’s a bit higher pitched and a bit gravellier and in DXC, he’s got a slightly deeper sounding voice that’s not as gravelly. Either version, I’m fine with!

  • “Eh? Why, it’s Master Alucard! …Come to visit, have we?” -Surprised and happy. This is his first line to Alucard (DXC)

  • “Young master, I cannot aid one who opposes the Master…” -concerned. This is after Alucard asks for his help, but before telling him he’ll be rewarded. (OG)
