BIONICLE: ILIAD - Casting Call

Project Overview

UPDATE: This Casting Call is closed! You can follow our social media accounts to see who got what, as well as other announcements regarding the project. Thank you all for auditioning, and we'll see you at the next Casting Call!

BIONICLE is a toyline originally produced by the LEGO group. Throughout 2001-2010 it featured a storyline where legendary heroes known as Toa worked together to revive their creator, Mata Nui. They would unite against the forces of evil, led by the traitorous Makuta Teridax, who aimed to take over the world as they know it.

BIONICLE: Iliad is a small group of members in the BIONICLE community who are joined together by one goal; to retell the story of BIONICLE through a fully CGI 3D Animated web-series.

We recently debuted our first animatic from Episode 1, but to continue production on future animatics and episodes we're gonna need Voice Actors. That's where you come in! We're looking for skilled voice actors to bring this project to life!

Familiarity with BIONICLE and it's characters is not required to participate, we're only looking for the best Voice Talent available.

This casting call currently covers Episode 1, with some reoccurring characters who will reappear in future episodes. Don't worry, we won't keep you waiting around. Recording will begin shortly after casting is complete.

Voice Actor
Kopaka - Toa of Ice
closed
Unpaid
Role assigned to: Benjamin Prendergast

In a word, Kopaka is cold. By far the most antisocial of the Toa, but not out of spite. Kopaka is a perfectionist at heart, and he can be incredibly harsh on everyone for not meeting those standards, most of all himself. His struggles in interacting and working with others drives him to push people away so as to not face his most glaring imperfection of all.

PRONUNCIATIONS:

Kopaka - Koh-PAH-kah

Makuta - Mah-KOO-tah

Turaga - Too-RAH-gah

Rahi - RAH-hee

Rama - RAH-mah

Hagah - HAH-gah

  • (begrudgingly)

    I am Kopaka...Toa of Ice.

    -

    (exasperated)

Where is this dreaded Makuta the Turaga spoke of? Wherever I look, there is no sign of him. All I’ve seen is that Rahi...The Nui Raga...Rana...Hagah...?

    -

    (Confrontational)

All I see is a fool that believes the loudest voice makes the leader.

    -

    (Defensive)

I'm preserving lives here, translator! And as long as the Makuta is still killing Matoran we… I don't have the time to sit through your demeaning tirade or to entertain your stone gathering!

Pohatu - Toa of Stone
closed
Unpaid
Role assigned to: IanWPrice

Outgoing, rugged and boisterous, Pohatu’s infectiously friendly nature is often the glue keeping the Toa Mata together. He’s one of the most socially intelligent of the Toa - he’s certainly got the biggest heart. Pohatu’s default setting is loud and cheerful. He should have a large presence, but not a showy one.

PRONUNCIATIONS:

Pohatu - Poh-HAH-too

Koli - KOH-lee

Matoran - Mah-TOR-an

  • (Playing to the crowd but not too cocky)

Thank you everyone. I hope to return soon- And when I do, I’ll beat you all at Koli.

    -

    (Apologetic)

Oh my...I...I’m sorry! I was practicing. Are you alright?

    -

    (Surprised and confrontational)

Wait, they’re just normal Koli balls? You are a sneakier con-artist than I thought, all those poor Matoran you scammed…

    -

    (Assuring, friendly)

Listen, I...I have a feeling we’re both here for the same reason. Why not team up? We could find our masks together. It might make it easier, too, maybe even faster.

Onua - Toa of Earth
closed
Unpaid
cast offsite

Onua is a gentle giant, but that’s not to say that he’s stupid. Onua is among the wisest of the Toa, and does not speak without something meaningful to say. However, he does sometimes put too much investment in deliberating, making him slower to act. His voice should sound deep and wise.

PRONUNCIATIONS:

Onua - Oh-NOO-uh

Lewa - LEE-wah

Makuta - Mah-KOO-tah

Tamaru - Ta-MAH-Roo

Koro - CORE-oh

  • (Consoling, advising)

I do not know what ails you, brother. But we mustn't allow Makuta to get in our heads. We must be sure of ourselves if we wish to defeat him.

    -

    (Chastising)

Then show me, learn as one would: humbly and patiently. Get out of your ego and into your head.

    -

    (Warning, urging)

Lewa! The air! You have to use it!

    -

    (Weary, downtrodden)

Because it’s getting dark, Tamaru of Le-Koro. And this Toa has seen so much failure for one day.

Gali - Toa of Water
closed
Unpaid
Role assigned to: Katie

Wise and kind Toa Gali serves as an emotional anchor for the team, making peace when disagreements break out and advocating for unity whenever the Toa threaten to break apart. But like the sea, Gali has just as much potential to be fierce if her brothers or her people are threatened.

Her voice holds a lot of gravitas. She may often be gentle, but she is still a voice that commands attention. Basically team mom.

PRONUNCIATIONS:

Gali - GAH-lee

Lewa - LEE-wah

Kopaka - Koh-PAH-kah

  • (Uncertain, concerned)

It doesn’t feel right. All of this. If we were destined to save the island, why is there so much ambiguity about what we need to do? We have no direction. Even if we find the masks, how are we supposed to know what to do with them?

    -

(concerned for the Matoran’s safety, but still firm)

Get out of here, small one!

    -

(Slightly amused but trying not to show it. She's trying to tell a really bad joke.)

I would love to, Lewa, but I think the, um, "flow" is telling me to go and find my village.

    -

    (Scolding)

Kopaka! You can’t blame this on him. None of us know what the answer is.

Voice Actor
Voice Actor
Lewa - Toa of Air
closed
Unpaid
Role assigned to: danebraddy

Toa Lewa is a young-at-heart daredevil snarker with gleeful boundless energy. He’s not above taunting his opponents, and sometimes his cockiness gets him into trouble.

NOTE: Lewa uses a dialect known as treespeak which uses compound words to convey more complex ideas. He's not adept in the dialect yet and so still sounds a little stilted when using these phrases at times.

PRONUNCIATIONS:

Lewa - LEE-wah

Onua - Oh-NOO-uh

Koro - CORE-oh

  • (Playful, cheeky)

Hey, y'know where the wind is leading now? Le-Koro! We should race there.

    -

    (Thoughtful, hopeful)

I'm gonna be deep-honest with you, sister: I don't know what to make of any of this. But I trust the wind. It's my friend. Every time I think it's taking me the wrong way, it turns out to be the right one after all. So I'm not gonna worry about it. It's all gonna work out, if I follow the wind.

    -

    (Irritated. Hurt-grin = sadistic/cruel)

Water. Why’d it have to be water? Whoever hid these masks had a hurt-grin sense of humor.

    -

    (Warning)

    Onua, look out!

Voice Actor
Jala - Captain of the Guard
closed
Unpaid
Role assigned to: MrScifiGuy

Stoic and serious, Jala's unwavering devotion to his role as Captain of the Guard has almost entirely taken over his life. At his heart, Jala is kind, caring and loyal to his friends and his people, though that's all been crushed under the weight of his demanding role and seemingly impossible mission. He's seen a lot of failure and hardship in his career, and every loss weighs down on him as he desperately tries to hold back the onslaught of the Makuta.

PRONUNCIATIONS:

Jala - JAH-lah

Turaga - Too-RAH-gah
Vakama - Vah-KAH-mah

Matoran - Mah-TOR-an

Koro - CORE-oh

Koronan - Kuh-ROH-nan

  • (Desperate, frustrated)

Listen to me. The Rahi are out there, we’ve lost communication with all our outposts. We can’t stay behind walls forever!

    -

    (Protesting, into respectful and formal)

But I didn’t- (sigh) My apologies Turaga Vakama. It won’t happen again.

    -

    (Scolding)

You four, stow it! No-one speaks like that of a Ta-Matoran while I’m around.

    -

(Commanding, firm, with a hint of desperation)

I need to find out what happened up there and I can’t spare anyone. You’ve shown the other Koro’s your fortitude, now it’s time to give that fortitude to Ta-Koro.

Matoro - The Translator
closed
Unpaid
Role assigned to: Carlo Deniega

One of the kindest of the Ko-Matoran, Matoro is Turaga Nuju’s right-hand man and personal translator. Because of this, Matoro is privy to the secrets of the Turaga, and between this and his other duties, can become quite anxious and stressed. But he’s no coward, he has faced the Rahi before and he knows what he’s dealing with. However, after a traumatic battle at the North March, Matoro has become stricken with guilt.

PRONUNCIATIONS:

Matoro - Mah-TOR-oh

Matoran - Mah-TOR-an

Turaga - Too-RAH-gah

Nuju - NOO-joo

  • (Polite and respectful)

Turaga Nuju, good morning. I have brought with me Toa Kopaka.

    -

    (Reluctant)

Oh… alright… But call for me when you are done.

        -

        (Urgent, sharp whisper)

I don’t know how in the Spirit you made it this far, but if you don’t keep quiet we’re all dead.

        -

        (Furious, emotional, near tears)

Scores of Matoran just died, heroes in the eyes of the people, and you want us to just GET OVER IT?

Voice Actor

Ahkmou - The Traitor
closed
Unpaid
Role assigned to: Ashilean

Ahkmou is sly, smarmy and manipulative. He's a used car salesman that made a deal with the devil. He can spin a good yarn, and is always scrambling to save face. He's got a lot of energy and charisma, but often tends to fall just short of his goals due to his own incompetence.

PRONUNCIATONS:

Ahkmou - OCK-moo

Koli - KOH-lee

Mata Nui - MAH-tah NOO-ee

Huki - HOO-kee

Koronan - Kuh-ROH-nan

Toa - TOE-uh

Makuta - Mah-KOO-tah

  • (Energetic, charming)

Get the fastest Koli balls on Mata Nui right here! Purchase a Comet and become one of the best at the sport! By the way, all Comets are Huki-approved.

    -

    (Sarcastic, smug)

What do you take my buyers for? Geniuses?

    -

    (Sardonic, dry)

Now if you look to your left on the ornate mysteriously crafted ancient stairs… You’ll see a wall… But if you look to your right… You’ll see another wall.

    -

    (Angry, manic, almost fearful)

Shut your mouth you Ko-Koronan snowflake! You think the Toa can stop the Makuta? He is everywhere, he is in every ruined stone, fueled by every corpse on that pyre. Every course, every road you struggle along leads to him and him alone. The Toa are nothing to that!

Voice Actor
Voice Actor
Onewa - Turaga of Stone
closed
Unpaid
cast offsite

Onewa is stubborn and blunt to a fault, which can make him difficult to work with, but easy to trust. He could also be a little brash and headstrong, but this has tempered with age. As a Turaga, this makes him quite a typical gruff and slightly crass old mentor with occasional pearls of wisdom archetype.

PRONUNCIATONS:

Onewa - AW-neh-wah

Koro - CORE-oh

Muaka - Moo-AH-kah

Makuta - Mah-KOO-tah

  • (Exasperated, irritated)

Did you get everything this time? Or do I have to repeat myself again?

    -

    (Weary, reluctant, downcast)

Well, if the Muaka’s out of the bag, then yes. We stopped sending messages on purpose. I haven’t let many people in or out of the city. A plague has come to Po-Koro, and I’m afraid it’s Makuta’s work. Almost everyone has gotten sick now, and we don’t know why.

    -

    (Advising)

Don’t get consumed with the image of who you once were. It often turns out only a portion of the memory is true.

Nuju - Turaga of Ice
closed
Unpaid
Role assigned to: Xyatharus

Dry and snippy at the best of times, Nuju is kind of a jerk, and he only seems to have gotten ruder after switching to speaking bird. He has little patience for those he perceives as less intelligent than him, and is often condescending and sarcastic towards others. Also if you can do good bird whistles you’re hired.

PRONUNCIATIONS:

Nuju - NOO-joo

Nui - NOO-ee
Rama - RAH-mah

  • (Reluctant)

I suppose, for the moment, it is necessary to speak in your native tongue. Now, where should I begin?

    -

    (Welcoming, slightly disapproving)

You have made quite the commotion young one. We heard the buzzing of the Nui-Rama… and the two of you breaking something.

The Souvenir Matoran

Unpaid
Role assigned to: Kyle Southard (Parugi)

Enthusiastic and offbeat, the Souvenir Matoran will peddle his wares to anyone who will listen (and anyone who won’t). There’s no malice in his actions, he just kinda wants to be acknowledged, so the moment anyone gives him a modicum of attention all of his energy will pour out at once.

PRONUNCIATIONS:

Matoran - Mah-TOR-an

Mata Nui - MAH-tah NOO-ee

Toa - TOE-uh

Turaga - Too-RAH-gah

Nokama - Noh-KAH-mah

  • (Excited, energetic, he’s meeting one of the great Toa for the first time)

Oh, Mata Nui, it really is you! I feared some mirage or trick of the eyes, no matter. Imagine this, your first contact with my kind, right here in my souvenir shop!

    -

(Confused, slightly irritated, quickly switching to fearful and respectful)

You don’t know anything, do you? I-I’m sorry, great Toa (slightly bows) I shouldn’t have said that.

    -

    (Curious, thoughtful)

Turaga Nokama? You must be very important if Turaga Nokama sent you.

    -

Even when Huki was all alone, he never stopped practicing, so neither will I. After all, I am second only to him in Koli right now.
