Setting: In a sprawling future metropolis called The Strata, society has continued to segregate between the classes. The wealthy live in Highgate City, a place full of dazzling skyscrapers and creature comforts. Organic body augmentations that allow citizens to extend their life for hundreds of years have become commonplace. At the other end of the spectrum lies Dockerton, a slum area filled with crime, drugs and poverty. Disease is rampant and basic facilities are almost non-existent. There are many checkpoints maintained by police that help to keep the city segregated, and most citizens don’t bother straying from their own neighbourhood.

Jade is a mysterious young woman who was found lost and confused in an alleyway by Detective Cavanagh. Suffering from amnesia, she struggles to understand the visions and fragmented memories that plague her.
There is little that Jade recalls prior to the night in the alleyway. She knows that she is being hunted and that she is in danger. Protected by Cavanagh, she discovers that she has a knack for painting, and through her art she begins to uncover more memories. A bond grows between her and Cavanagh, who she sees as a father figure of sorts. Cavanagh, for his part, is strongly reminded of his late daughter Annie as he attempts to protect Jade from her pursuers.
As her memories eventually begin to return, Jade discovers she has a dark past tied to a shadowy figure from her visions. As time runs out, Jade knows that she must make sense of her past before both she and Cavanagh fall victim to the dark forces that surround them.

(Jade paints a self portrait in an attempt to stimulate her memory; however, when it’s done, she feels hopeless since she doesn’t recognise the face staring back at her; tries to explain her feelings) “I’m saying I don’t see myself in this painting because I don’t really know who I am. I have no memory of my life. No friends or family, no home. It’s all gone. So... who exactly am I supposed to be?”
(Jade tries to comfort a friend who lost his daughter some years ago; compassionate) “I saw a man who gave his daughter a love that was pure and unconditional. He nurtured her and gave her every opportunity to thrive. And when she was lost, it was through no fault of his own.”
(As she starts to regain her memories, Jade realises that she has lived through some terrible events in the past and begins to question whether she even wants those memories back; angry and frustrated) “Seeing my parents get sick and wasting away before my eyes? Living on the streets for years, cold and starving, and doing all kinds of horrible things just to stay alive? Why would I want to remember that?”

Charli operates a transport vehicle carrying valuable cargo between the Deadlands and The Strata. Charli is practical, experienced and knowledgeable about the region. She understands the ways and customs of the various settlements within the Deadlands, as well as the dangers, and this knowledge allows her to make informed decisions on the best routes to take. She has a strong sense of responsibility for both the cargo and the safety of her passengers. She is cautious and patient, prioritizing the safe arrival of the cargo over rushing or taking unnecessary risks.
Her current mission is to transport a businessman called Darrow and his cargo, an undertaking where she often finds herself acting as the peacemaker between Darrow and their other associates, and generally keeping situations under control. While working in a harsh environment she keeps a positive attitude and still tries to see the good in everyone, sometimes to her own detriment.

(wary when a companion suggests they set out across the wasteland without a security detail) “Do you really wanna roll the dice on that? Those marauders out there aren’t gonna go easy on us if they catch us.”
(speaking urgently to her security team as her transport is ambushed by bandits on a lonely stretch of highway) “Hey, you’re up! Looks like there’s some cover just ahead, on the side of the road. If you keep low and move fast you should be able to make it! Get going!”
(showing compassion as a friend kneels before a fallen comrade, reluctant to leave their side) “Maybe it’s better if we leave you to say goodbye in your own time. Come back down to the rig when you’re ready. We’ll wait for you. Okay?”

(calm, deliberate and businesslike; recording a message to be sent out to his contacts) “This encrypted transmission is being distributed to a select list of clients and as such it is to be treated with discretion. Do not make unauthorised copies. Do not forward to others outside the register. Our proposal is as follows - my team is currently pursuing a high-value target, and we are requesting assistance in finding her.”
(calm, deliberate and businesslike; recording a message to be sent out to his contacts) “Anyone who underestimates this target will fail. I guarantee it. She is highly dangerous. With that being the case, we are not asking for the target to be apprehended. Once located, details of her whereabouts should be forwarded to this channel.”
(menacing; responding when he is told his targets have escaped the scene) “You clearly have no idea how persistent I can be. Sooner or later those targets are going to show up again, and when they do, I’ll be ready.”

Dreyfus is an ex-con with a checkered past who leads a group of thugs for hire. His rap sheet includes assault, battery and theft, for which he has undertaken multiple stints in prison. (calm, but with a hint of menace as he talks to a man he has been tasked with apprehending) “We have a car waiting over there. If you’d like to step inside, we can get to know each other a little better. I’ll explain everything.”
(barking orders to his men as they surround their target) “Spread out. Get on the other side of him. And remember, our guy doesn’t want a scratch on him. Not a mark. We have to do this clean and-ugh!” (cries out in pain as he’s suddenly struck from behind)
(irritated and somewhat exasperated after being interrupted during his dinner) “If you don’t mind, I’d like to go back and finish my dinner. That’s a very expensive main course that’s getting cold on my plate right now.”

Maddox is a highly reputed Gridcrawler operating from a high tech bunker far below the streets of The Strata. He specialises in bypassing encryption and accessing secure data on the Grid. Maddox is reclusive, cautious and secretive, employing elaborate security measures and encoded communication channels with his clients. In the past he has been targeted by competitors, with his safety threatened, which has led him to his current secluded lifestyle and his avoidance of face-to-face interactions. He researches his clients thoroughly to ensure no future issues arise. Maddox's motivations are somewhat agenda driven with his ultimate aim to bring about change in The Strata and expose corruption.
- male adult
(a little condescending as a prospective client tries to skip through his safety protocols) “Whoa, whoa, hold up there, lady. There’s a process here - one that’s designed to ensure the safety and security of all parties involved in this transaction. We wouldn’t want to mess with that, would we?”
(testing a prospective client, trying to understand their motives for seeking him out) “And now you’re here on my doorstep. A last resort, I guess you could say? I suppose there’s only one decision left for me to make - should I help you or not? Go on, convince me. Why should I help you? And don’t say ‘creds’ because that’s not what this is about.”
(lecturing a client and letting them know he doesn’t care about money) “Listen to me - creds are an illusion. They’re nothing more than numbers on a terminal screen - pixels floating across the Grid. I can snap my fingers and make them dance any way I want - any time I want - and anywhere I want. They’re meaningless to me.”
