Benches - (Short Audio Drama)
Project Overview
Benches is a short story I wrote last year. I'm currently in the process of creating an audio drama based on it. It's a fairy tale about a girl named Tabitha and the magical stone benches she finds in an old park near her house. She meets some strange children - and one of them turns out to be a monster who will change her life forever. It's a story for both children and grown-ups.

Hey everyone! We've had some great auditions so far, but I'm pushing back the deadline for latecomers who still wish to submit their lines :)
Tabitha is the star of the story. She's a young girl on the quiet side, but has an inner strength that allows her to navigate the strange sights she encounters in the story. A British accent would be nice, but is not 100% required.
My name’s Tabitha. I live in the little yellow house over that way. And I go to school at Saint Mary’s. But I guess you don’t care because you’re just a toad.
Sometimes she would take my hand and we’d walk along the path. We would play hide-and-seek — oh! That made me remember something: a tree I used to hide in. The tree was hollowed out. And I was much smaller back then.
You’re exhausted and frightened. You need to hide and rest. I have a plan. Trust me.
As the narrator, you'll be reading the entire story around the other actor's direct lines. Since the story is set in a vaguely-British setting, a British accent would be preferred.
She saw strange and familiar landmarks as she went.
The faceless figure, still frozen in place.
The rusting playground equipment.
The unworkable water fountain.
The intersection of the paths.
The hedge of wild privet.
The large lump of dirt.
The sharp corner.
The clearing.
The monster.
The girl.
Tabitha scratched her ear and frowned at the benches. Hewn from rough rock, they appeared ancient and unfriendly. There were four of them. Each had three pieces; a long, flat seat on top and two smaller stones supporting it on either side. They stood in a sort of square formation. They stood in the middle of the park and surrounded an empty spot where something once went.
The Boy is a fearsome creature who presents himself as a small white-haired boy with bare feet. His voice is monotone, but with a dark undercurrent. A British accent is preferred but I'm open to all takes.
She’s a monster. She’ll destroy your world, your friends. Your family. She’ll destroy you.
Go. Find her. Bring her back.
The Girl is a shapeshifting monster who only wants to be free from her captor, The Boy. She may sound like an ordinary girl, but there's a strange force beneath the surface of her words.
Tabitha, why do you wait by the benches?
It can’t smell or see or hear. It can just feel you.
Tabitha's mother loves her daughter, but is always a bit tired due to the long hours she works to provide for the two of them.
I got off early today. Where have you been?
Meeting people in the park.... No strange men in bowler hats, I hope?
