Beast's Lament (SVA Thesis Film)
Project Overview
INTRODUCTION
Hello!! I'm an animation major in my senior year at the School of Visual Arts and I'm looking for a music composer for my thesis film "Beast's Lament." (working title)
FILM SUMMARY: This short film follows two unlikely friends who live in a society that strives to tear them apart. More specifically, it follows Lucian, who feels isolated in the "perfect" community he was raised in. Long ago, a deity saved the community from ruin and blessed them with magic, and ever since they have been dedicated to worshiping said deity. In the same breath, everyone seems to be afraid of this "beast" who lives in the outskirts of the forest outside of town. Little does everyone know that this dreaded monster just so happens to be Lucian's dearest companion, and may also be more than meets the eye.
The film is currently about just under 3 minutes in length, and will be finished in early April. No voice actors this time, so the music is an incredibly important element of my film that will carry a lot of weight in the final result. I'm currently finishing up the rough animation, which should be wrapping up within the next week or so.
Credit will be given at the end of the film with whichever name or username you would prefer! I also plan to post it on social media after submitting it to film festivals. I'm on a budget as I'm a full-time college student, but this position is paid.
I used this site to cast voices and composers for my second year and third year films! I'm back again one final time during my education at SVA. I truly appreciate every audition I receive; thank you for taking the time out of your day to read about my film and/or send an audition in!
IMPORTANT INFO
Payment is in USD and will be sent through PayPal.
Make sure you have clear song examples and/or a clear reel to provide.
I'd prefer to contact those who get roles through discord, but email is fine as well. We can communicate through voice call and/or we can simply stick to messaging. Feel free to contact me on discord (my username is snipsnops) if you have any questions!
Since the animation is still in development, the timing might change a few seconds here and there. Please be willing to have patience with me if there's any changes!
DEADLINES AND AUDITIONS
The current deadline for auditions is February 20th, which is about a week since the posting of this casting call.
March 26th is the final deadline for the final cut of the music, which will give you just over a month to complete the music once chosen.
I'm looking forward to hearing the auditions and ultimately working with one of you!

I'm looking for a music composer for my thesis film! This film will have no dialog, so the music is an extremely important component.
The run time is just under 3 minutes in length, though I'll have an exact length down to the second by the time I choose a composer. The tone throughout the film builds up to be very emotional; I'm looking for a song that can play throughout the entire runtime and be in sync with what is happening on screen. The song I am using temporarily as a placeholder is White Palace from the soundtrack of Hollow Knight. The final track can be similar or a completely different vibe; it's just there to fill the space adequately for now!
As for a rough outline of what I'm looking for tone-wise, the film starts off whimsical/mysterious/somber. When the first two characters meet up, the music would go from an uncertain to a sweeter vibe. Then it has a sudden yet emotional build-up to the climax of the film where the main character is gravely injured, with anger/sadness/fear hanging in the balance between the conflicting characters, returning to a somber end. I can definitely be more specific with certain cues and everything later on.
- I'm looking for: string instruments, wind instruments, piano, etc.
- I'm NOT looking for: electronic, 8-bit video game, etc.
If you're selected to be my composer, you will be paid $100 for the completed music. (I wish I could offer more, but this is what I have to offer on a student budget!) Your chosen name/credentials will also be listed in the credits of the film of course, and it will hopefully be released into a film festival circuit if all goes well.
This is not required, but would be an awesome bonus if you're able to do sound design as well! I'm planning on doing that myself, but I'm truly not the best at it so if you have knowledge/experience in that area that would be a great plus. (This would include any foley/sound effects)
I need a finished track by the end of March; preferably by March 26th the latest. Please keep this in mind while applying, as the deadline is very strict and non-negotiable. Thank you so much for reading!
