Be Gay, Do Crimes

Be Gay, Do Crimes

Project Overview

Overview:

We don't have enough diverse shows. As someone who loves the aesthetic of the 1920s, and also wants to create more representation(especially for the LGBT+ community), I thought of a concept based around some 1920's-style characters who happen to be living their best criminal lives while not being straight. Currently, I am thinking this will be a podcast, and may take place in a fictional setting, but have a 1920's vibe. There will be more characters to come, of course, and more auditions may pop up in the future, but to start, I'd love to solidify the leads and the working team. I hope you'll be interested in joining me to create this series!

Things to Know:

⭐️Please identify with the characters in some way. Because this is a project focused around creating more representation, I believe in casting and "hiring" more LGBT+ identifying people⭐️

-We will be using Discord to communicate. Anyone cast into the project will be given the link to the server.

-This series will include occasional violence and vulgar language, so if that bothers you, this is likely not the project for you.

-If auditioning, you must be dedicated to the project. I would rather not recast roles while in production.

-Voice actors should read(/sing if necessary) all of the lines depicted on the audition call.

-This project is progressing slowly as of right now, simply because the crew is very small at the moment, and of course there is the pandemic affecting us all. Once there are more people on board and we can dedicate more time, this project will be produced quicker!

Feel free to ask me any questions, and I will answer if I can!

Role assigned to: rreagan

A 1920's bootlegger. She's cunning and smart, and good at her job. She's Henry's twin sister, though when working, she dresses as her alter ego, Eddie Scott, to keep suspicion off of her. She's got the hots for Jasmine Blue, but doesn't know how the performer would feel if she learned that the man that has been flirting with her is actually a woman. *Needs to be able to lower voice slightly to imitate a male's voice. *Slight Chicago accent.

  • Promised her I'd make it to see her show. Tell me, Henry, do you know me to be a liar?

  • Well, some promises you have to keep if you wanna get anywhere in life.

  • You say that as if you don't have an almost equally-as-dangerous job. Doesn't he almost get shot *every* day?

Alice's twin brother. Smarter than he seems. He's sweet, contradictory to to what one might think given the fact that he's literally a criminal. He's in a relationship with a mobster, which is an interesting dynamic, but they love each other. He himself has never killed anyone, and doesn't plan to. *Slight Chicago accent.

  • The fucker nearly got himself killed today.

  • I'm going as fast as I can; calm down, it's nothin we've never shaken before!

  • Love ya, sis, but you think that's a bit deceitful?

A 20's singing performer. She's not a huge name in the country, but within Chicago's underground performing venues, she's the gal everyone wants to book. She doesn't socialize often. Doesn't see the point in it as much. She does her work, gets paid, and lives her glamorous life. She does have things she keeps to herself though, such as her real name- she's been going by her stage name ever since she started in show business. *African-American actresses only. *Slight Southern accent.

  • I almost thought you weren't gonna show.

  • Men are always so sure of themselves, ain't they?

  • Sing "Blue Skies" by Ella Fitzgerald

    Blue skies smilin' at me
Nothin' but blue skies do I see
    Bluebirds singin' a song
Nothin' but bluebirds all day long
Never saw the sun shinin' so bright
Never saw things goin' so right
    Noticing the days hurrying by
When you're in love, my how they fly

Blue days, all of them gone
Nothin' but blue skies from now on

Sometimes, one might question his morals. They might even think he's emotionless, but he doesn't let that bother him. He's in a relationship with Henry, and actually puts a lot of effort into loving him. More often than you'd think, he's funny without meaning to be. He's part of a mob, and makes some cash while being involved. It's all a job to him. *Slight Italian accent.

  • You don't have to worry about him anymore.

  • There's nothing going on between us, Henry. It's just a job.

  • Ain't nothin' I wouldn't do to protect ya, sweetheart.

We're looking at a Roaring era. It would be easy to find pieces to slip into this project to help create emotion, but it would be so much more authentic, supportive, and cool to have someone that understands music history and composing, and would like to create pieces for this project specifically. Submit a small, original, instrumental piece written in a jazz style. Submitting additional work is optional.

I'll need help writing and bouncing ideas for this project. I'm looking for someone who can vibe with the vision I see for this project, but also someone who's ready to bring some ideas to the table as well, and help make it better. Submit a page of dialogue that you imagine could be passed between any two of the lead characters. Again, you may also submit additional work.
