Batman: Year One (Motion Comic)
Project Overview
Batman: Year One is a graphic novel created by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli with Richmond Lewis. The story tells the tale of Batman’s beginnings as a crime fighter along with Jim Gordon who plays a central role in the story.
This is a FAN and passion project as I have always wanted to do something like this. If you are passionate about something, always do it. I am looking for as many people like me as possible who are passionate and willing to help.

Fresh back from years away, Bruce Wayne is back in Gotham and on a mission to clean up the streets as some sort of feared symbol. This is the story of his beginnings as the caped crusader and is one of the leads. I am looking for a younger voice for Batman but keeping that classic voice we all know and love.
“I have seen it before…somewhere…it frightened me…as a boy…frightened me…yes, father…I shall become a bat.”
“Ladies. Gentlemen. You have eaten well. You’ve eaten Gotham’s wealth. It’s spirit. Your feast is nearly over. From this moment on…none of you are safe.”
“It is Batman you want to talk about, isn’t it? Something about my being him?”
Just arrived in the city, James Gordon is a young and honourable officer who wants to make a difference in Gotham City but can’t seem to get there due to the corruption of the Gotham City Police Department. Alongside Batman, he is also a lead role and plays a significant role in the story.
“I watch and I don’t do a damn thing and I memorise every move. For future reference.”
“Somewhere in the middle of it they tell me it’s just a warning. They remind me I’ve got a pregnant wife. Toward the end I hear a familiar chuckle. Flass.”
“You know, I’m practically blind without my glasses. Sirens coming. You’d better go.”
Crooked cop with a massive ego and brute strength, Arnold Flass is your usual a-hole cop who will do whatever he’s asked to for money and power.
“Welcome to Gotham, Jimmy. It’s not as bad as it look’s especially if you’re a cop. Cops got it made in Gotham.”
“He’s not human. I’m just telling you he’s not human.”
“So father Donnelley, he slips Gordon a fifty with the handshake…and Gordon, he looks at it like his hands got a disease. Then he throws the fifty in the padre’s face. Gives the squad a two-hour lecture. Puts Schell on probation. He’s just not fitting in, Gill.”
Loeb is the crooked commissioner of the GCPD who is tied with the mob and will do whatever it takes to stay on top.
“If there’s one thing I can’t stand, it’s smoking. What mistakes have you made, Lieutenant? You kept the media away from it. That’s the bottom line, isn’t it? Yes it is.”
“This will not do. This will not do at all. What’s wrong with our marksman? I trust you didn’t get me a blind marksman, did you?”
“You get good press, I’ll give you that. They like you, don’t they, Agee and his pack at the gazette. But they don’t know you. No they don’t. Not the way we know you. Terrible if they…or you’re wife…learned of the special nature of your relationship…with Sergeant Essen.”
Living in one of the roughest areas of Gotham, Selina looks out for her friend Holly as the two try to make a living. She wants to see a difference and sometimes thinks she should take it into her own hands.
“Scratch him. On the face. Just once. He could use it.”
“You know what I hate most about men, Skunk? Never met one.”
“It’s money, Holly. Be a kick, just watch.”
Carmine “The Roman” Falcone is the cities biggest crime Lord and controls everything in the city. He is your typical crime boss with Italian heritage.
“You shouldn’t pry, Marian. Gill has his hands full, these days. We’re trusting him to cope with Batman…and with Gordon.”
“That kid Dent is pushing internal affairs to go after detective Flass. Flass would be difficult to replace. And, should he talk…”
“You’re mother is wise, in her way. You see, Johnny, there are too many people in the world who ask questions. And far, too many who give answers.”
Jefferson Skeevers is a pimp/drug dealer operating out of Gotham City who runs into trouble with Batman.
“I mean, I’d be sweating bare if it wasn’t for our cop. They nail me and I talk about Flass and maybe Flass talks about Commissioner Loeb.”
“I’m fine.” - (Being made to seem fine as Batman is with him)
“Want to talk to Dent. Got a plea. Want to talk to about Flass.”
Bruce’s Butler and father figure who cares for Bruce and one of his main allies during his early years.
“I trust you’ve been well, Master Bruce.”
“Police Lieutenant and Mrs. Gordon, sir.”
“Hm. I suppose you’ll take up flying next like that fellow in metropolis.”
Young and courageous, Harvey Dent wants to make a difference as assistant District Attorney. He assists Gordon with his crusade against the corrupt officials in the city.
“Skeevers told us where, when and how much money you received, Flass. And you’ve been spending a lot more than you’re earning…”
“…Thought he’d never leave. You can come out now.”
“Laughed myself silly, lieutenant. A rolls Royce.”
A younger sister like figure to Selina Kyle. She is young and will do whatever she needs to do to survive.
“Cheer you up.”
“Young as you want me to be.”
“Hurts?! Bet he broke my wrist!”
Jim’s partner at the GCPD which the two end up having an affair with each other.
“Money, Lieutenant, Bruce Wayne is the richest man in Gotham and being from out of town, you might not know this, but his parents were murdered. By a mugger, I think. He was just a little boy at the time…”
“Yes, sir. It’s quitting time. Share a cab?”
“Damn it, Jim. You’re right, of course. I just want to know if your wife weren’t pregnant , would you…I’m sorry. Wasn’t fair. Damn it, Jim.”
“Lieutenant, it’s the commissioner.”
“I’m gone…” (Rushing to tell Dent)
“I think Branden needs some help, Lieutenant.”
James Gordon’s pregnant wife who he cheats on with Sarah Essen.
“Don’t have to go to metropolis for a man of steel. Could use a jackhammer on your back…”
“It’s Merkel. Something about a giant bat.”
“Yes, sir. I know about Sergeant Essen. Please don’t bother me again.”
GCPD Officer
“Hey, he didn’t move man.”
“Needs a doctor.”
“He’s bleeding all over the seat. We got to take him to the hospital.”
Officer at the GCPD
“He was going to.”
“Maybe after he’s booked.”
“You look, boy. I’ve run into a thousand like him. Drifters. Who needs them.”
Paranoid schizophrenic who has been released from Arkham Asylum
“Defribbilate. Doesn’t smell often. Too many guns…”
“Spider nasty don’t noise it.”
“Said no lunch no gangrene lunch.”
A corrupt cop who takes pleasure in violence and abuse. He is the leader of a SWAT team at the GCPD.
“We’re not here to argue, Merkel. We’re here to clean things up. And I don’t see a sign of your soft-hearted lieutenant Gordon…oh no…”
“No prisoners, men.”
“Walls have ears, Jimmy.”
Jefferson Skeever’s Lawyer. She is a female lawyer who is trying to get him to avoid trouble.
“Just remember they’ve still got their clothes on.”
“I want you in a black suit at the inquest. With a tie. Make it black. Same for the shoes. None of that pimp stuff.”
“What the hell, Skeevers you all right?”
Carmine Falcone’s Nephew and son of his sister.
“Mother has said that there are several men who are plaguing you, sir. I need only be told their names.”
“Drop the gun, Lieutenant. Go to the office. Wait for our call.”
“It has thrilled me every time, sir. I am, of course, yours.”

“This is unit three-we are approaching target area.”
“Keep it tight…Keep it tight.”
“If he’s down there, he’s trapped himself.”

“Just a chimney.”
