Project Overview
♡ Barbie in the Nutcracker is a 2001 animated fantasy film loosely adapted from E. T. A. Hoffmann's 1816 short story, "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King", and featuring music based from Tchaikovsky's 1892 ballet, The Nutcracker, it marked the character of Barbie's first film since the 1987 television specials. It was also the first Barbie movie to be computer-animated. Barbie in the Nutcracker premiered on VHS on October 2, 2001. The film sold more than 3.4 million units on DVD by 2002, and grossed $150 million in total sales. It won the Video Premiere Award for Best Animated Video Premiere Movie.

I have been a voice actor, director, editor, and screenwriter for voiceover content since about age 13 back in the 2010s (I am now 29 and studied film in college). ♡ Barbie in the Nutcracker has a special place in my heart. I grew up watching the movie on VHS! It sparked little me to start a nutcracker collection, and every year I happily watch the film over again. It is both my favorite Barbie movie and favorite winter film!

♡ In order to get this project going as soon as possible to meet my goal for the release date, I am doing ROLLING CASTING! This means DO NOT HESITATE TO AUDITION IF YOU WANT A SPECIFIC ROLE, or else someone else may snatch it up before you! My casting here will be FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE!

♡ How will this be organized?
Through a Discord server! Having a Discord account is a requirement for casting.
♡ When are my lines gonna be due?
October 31 is the goal!
♡ What if I can’t make the deadline for submission?
The deadline can be extended, if circumstances beyond your control are affecting your ability to get your lines in by October. Please message me privately if you need more time. If production is struggling to meet the October deadline, we'll extend it by a year.
♡ What format should I use when submitting my lines?
Mp3 preferred. Wav also works! Mp4 is not preferred but can be accepted if necessary.
♡ Should I do multiple takes?
2 takes minimum; 4 takes maximum, please! After you record, if I need any retakes, I will contact you!
♡ Would you prefer lines in one file or an individual file for each line?
I would prefer an INDIVIDUAL file for each SCENE, please!
♡ Do I need to match the mouth flaps of the characters?
To the best of your ability, but do not stress about this on your first takes please - I will ask for retakes if I need the pacing different to line up properly. I want you to focus more on your performance than pacing, and let me worry about the pacing in editing.
★ When is this gonna be ready?
I'm aiming for a December 2026 release date, but this might change depending on when I get all the lines submitted and how editing goes. I will update you on the release date as we get closer to the wrap on production!

Clara is the main protagonist in Barbie in the Nutcracker. She’s played by Barbie.
After receiving a Nutcracker from Aunt Elizabeth for Christmas, Clara's parlor is ambushed by the Mouse King and his army. Clara tries to fight them, but she’s shrunk by the king's magic to the size of a mouse. In order to be transformed back to her normal size, Clara must embark on an expedition to find the Sugar Plum Princess - a powerful fairy who possesses the powers to return Clara back to her normal size.

Originally performed by Tim Curry, The Mouse King is the main antagonist in Barbie in the Nutcracker. He is based on the Mouse King from the original Nutcracker ballet. The Mouse King is the most powerful citizen in Parthenia, and he knows it. He uses his power solely to please himself and shows no regard for the citizens under his reign.

I’ve combed through every page of every book in the royal library...and there’s no other mention of a Sugar Plum Princess! She’s a fantasy! But if Nutcracker wants to believe in fairytales...he’s about to find out: this one doesn’t have a happy ending.
Pimm is a little purple bat who appears in Barbie in the Nutcracker. He is a little bat who spies on the Nutcracker and his companions for the Mouse King. Pimm's personality can be described as timid, obnoxious, obedient to the Mouse King, and slightly temperamental. He also has a high voice and a British (cockney) accent.

Major Mint is a high-ranking army officer who has "tried everything" to defeat the Mouse King. Major Mint is a very serious man. He seems to be completely devoted to his job and the military, even if they are only soldiers besides himself and Captain Candy not working for the Mouse King or haven't been turned to stone.

Prince Eric? He’s the reason we’re in this mess! If it weren’t for that reckless boy, the Mouse King wouldn’t be turning everyone into knick-knacks!
Captain Candy is an army officer, presumably from the Parthenian Military. His backstory was that he used to be friends with Prince Eric, who disappeared when the Mouse King began to rule. Captain Candy was still concerned about the Prince's disappearance. He helps Major Mint try to defeat the Mouse King, and the pair also look after the Parthenian locals (or the remaining locals). He and the Major appear to be the only soldiers left that don't work for the Mouse King or hadn't been turned to stone.

Elizabeth is Clara and Tommy's Aunt and Grandfather Drosselmayer's niece. She likes to go traveling, create mischief, and vex her Uncle. When Elizabeth went to see Clara and Tommy, she had just come back from China. She sailed on a junk, had her first rickshaw ride, and danced with an emperor. Her Uncle thinks that Elizabeth is a bad influence on Clara. Grandfather Drosselmayer doesn't want Clara and Elizabeth to travel out of fear that they'll get hurt.

Grandfather Drosselmayer is practical. He tells Clara what to do and how to act, and he tells Aunt Elizabeth not to talk to Clara about the thing she loves most: adventures. He wants Clara to be a proper young lady. However, Elizabeth encourages him to let Clara grow up.

Tommy first appears in the movie on Christmas Eve when the maid notices that some gingerbread decorations have been eaten. Clara suspects that her little brother Tommy ate them, and her suspicions are confirmed when she sees Tommy hiding behind a sofa eating the gingerbread.
