Anytown (CREW NEEDED)

Anytown (CREW NEEDED)

Project Overview

Anytown is an original animated series I've been developing for three (coming on four) years. It's about a group of friends that live together in a cozy New Jersey suburb that doesn't appear on any map where literally anything can happen. The tone is a combination of the quaintness of Wallace & Gromit, the quirkiness of Gravity Falls, and the sincerity of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, but it doesn't have a typical episodic structure. Anytown works similar to Homestar Runner, where the title of the show is used as an umbrella name for various sub-series of shorts, although there are repeating story threads and continuity to connect the shorts together.

I've posted artwork related to the show on my Twitter, my DeviantArt, and on its own dedicated Facebook page. You can see them by clicking these links.

This year I plan on moving forward with producing shorts, and I'm looking to hire crew members to help out. Specifically, I'm looking for writers, storyboard artists, background artists, and music composers. This is currently an unpaid project, but once the show starts gaining momentum, we can discuss payment later down the road.

If you are interested, PM me with contact info (email, Discord, etc.) and we'll talk about this further.

As a writer, you'll be needed to either help flesh out ideas for shorts that I'd already come up with, or pitch your own ideas. You will have the freedom to flesh out your own stories and work with whichever other writers you'd like. I'll provide you with a show bible to give you a sense of the world, the tone, the type of stories to tell, what the characters are like, and how they interact with each other. I'll also refer you to the influences listed in the project description (if you're not familiar with them already) to give you a better idea of what we're going for, and act as a possible source of inspiration.

Note: Any experience in writing (whether professional or amateur) and a good sense of humor are appreciated.

In developing the series, I've done all the storyboarding myself. To make work time easier, I'll need other storyboard artists to help out. Most of the time I'll send you blank sheets with shot descriptions filled out that you'll have to match up your drawings with, but I'll also give you the freedom to draw whatever you feel looks the best. I will provide you with model sheets and other reference material you might need to help you get a feel for the characters and the style.

Note: You must have some experience with storyboarding (either on a professional or amateur level), and an ability to draw in other art styles.

I plan on animating the shorts primarily by myself, but while my background sketches are fine, I'm not exactly the best at coloring them. I want the backgrounds to have a handmade look to them, and personally I don't think I can capture it in the way that I'd like. So as a background artist, you will mostly have to paint over sketches that I'll send to you. Other times I'll let you come up with whatever you want, and depending on the location, I will send you some references for which colors to use.

Note: An ability to paint in a watercolor/storybook style is preferable.

I'll be taking on various aspects of the show, including the music. But sometimes I will need extra composers to fill in empty spots where I would want music to go. The main style of music that I'm going with is jazz (think Vince Guraldi's work on the Peanuts specials), but other styles will have to be used at different points. I will give you scenes to put music to that I think would suit your abilities, or present you with ideas for songs to compose that'll be reworked for later shorts.

Note: Being versatile in different music styles, and having access to competent music software are recommended.
