Project Overview

CALLING ALL ANIMORPHS! Are you familiar with the original KA Applegate novels OR the graphic novels illustrated by Chris Grine? Even if you're not, would you like to be a part of a fun fandub project, hoping to tackle the Yeerk invasion and save the entire world as we know it?


Animorphs, in novel form, is a series of 64 books created by KA Applegate that were published from 1996 to 2001. In their modern iteration, they are a series of graphic novels illustrated by Chris Grine, which I would love to see fandubbed. So, I took it upon myself to do so!


The series follows five teenage humans - Jake, Marco, Rachel, Cassie, and Tobias - who live in somewheresville USA. Their lives are irreparably changed when a dying alien prince named Elfangor-Sirinial-Shamtul comes crashing to earth with a warning - the Yeerk invasion is coming, and it will assimilate all of humanity.


Yeerks are tiny sluglike creatures that infiltrate a host body and completely take over their entire existence. Their goal? To conquer planet after planet for the Yeerk Empire. Elfangor gives the children a gift - the ability to morph into any animal they have contact with - minutes before the Yeerks arrive to earth themselves. The race has begun, and our five main characters have to shoulder this burden all on their own, for the Yeerks have already begun assimilating humans left and right.


Who can you trust when even your own family members may already be a vessel for a Yeerk host that wants your demise? How do you reconcile the terrible things that happen during this war - both the terrible things that happen to your loved ones and those around you, and the terrible things YOU have to do to survive such an ordeal? What lengths do you go to, to ensure the safety of yourself and your loved ones?


Animorphs is a war story that poignantly captures the trials and tribulations of what it means to become a child soldier in a world where you can't trust anyone or anything, and you're constantly being hunted. I want to do this story justice by creating an amazing fandub, and I need your help to do so.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE - as Animorphs is a war story, this project and the novels it covers will cover topics such as death, PTSD, body snatching and cult-like behavior, and other heavy topics that might be unsettling. If this is too much for you, I entirely understand! Feel free to sit this one out, or let me know and we can try and find a compromise.

WHAT I NEED FROM YOU:

I need natural, nuanced vocal delivery from my voice actors. Please, no "anime dub" type voices for this project; they completely clash with the characters of this series and the overall tone this series carries. I am planning on taking on some of the background, minor speaking rolls myself, so I will hold myself to this standard as well, but the Animorphs needs believable voices with emotional ranges covering [but not limited to] grief, rage, elation, fear and disgust. There are a LOT of negative emotions in this series, and I need you to be able to convey these feelings well.


I'm not asking for the most perfect mic setup ever, but please limit background noise and plosives. I'm more likely to want to work with you if you have a good audio setup with limited distractions like fans or static noise.


THIS IS AN 18+ PROJECT! I will not work with minors on this. PLEASE specify your age in your audition - if you do not, I WILL ask for it, so please spare both of us the time.

Jake begins our story as a thirteen-year-old boy who has just had the weight of the world put upon his shoulders, and now must learn how to become a leader... or die trying. Jake is someone who is charismatic, popular with his friends, and kind. His biggest worry, at the start, is disappointing his older brother by not making it onto their school's basketball team... and now he's learned that he and four other children alone must save the world from the Yeerk invasion, by a dying prince named Elfangor. I want Jake to sound youthful and optimistic, but level-headed and stoic when need be. He has a good heart, and a ton of newfound responsibilities, and the Animorphs are about to be waaaay in over their head trying to navigate how to handle this new threat.

Rachel begins our story as a thirteen-year-old girl who is self-assured, no-nonsense, and the first to rush into a fight. A self-proclaimed fashionista, amateur gymnastics girlypop, and Cassie's best friend, Rachel is someone who plans her trips around the mall to get the best deals in the most efficient manner... and someone who charges recklessly, headfirst into a fight as a grizzly bear, aiming for your neck with bloodlust. She's brash, a little abrasive, and deeply loyal to her friends and the earth as a whole. Try to do your best "I have a natural resting-bitch-face" voice while still sounding youthful and a little in-over-your-head.

Marco starts our story as a thirteen-year-old boy who is a bit of a class clown, and very reluctant to get into the nitty-gritty of Animorphs business. Despite being the one who actually coins the term 'Animorphs', Marco has a constant "Why does it have to be us?" mentality, and he looooves to bicker about the responsibilities that have been placed upon his shoulders. In spite of this, he tags along on every mission to ensure his friends don't die without him, and he is skeptical of everything and unfalteringly analytical. I'm looking for a youthful, humorous yet sardonic tone of voice with Marco - he sticks by his friends through thick and thin [especially Jake, who is his best friend], but he WILL complain the entire time.

IMPORTANT!! I am heavily prioritizing POC auditions for Marco, to stay true to his character.

  • Let's see. He invites us to join The Sharing, and now HERE comes Tom, strangely interested in what happened at the construction site. And guess what? He ALSO invites us to join The Sharing. [Serious and resolute.]

Cassie begins our story as a thirteen-year-old girl who is empathetic, a nature and animal lover, and the resident 'ethics committee' of the Animorphs gang, constantly thinking about the consequences of their actions during this war and trying to keep them all held accountable for the awful things they have to do to survive. Both of her parents work as head veterinarians at The Gardens, and she's definitely following in their footsteps, taking care of the animals they have to tend to off-site at their at-home outdoor animal care facility. She's a bit of a rough and tumble, overalls-wearing, outdoorsy type of girl; more comfortable trekking in the forest than trying on different trendy outfits with Rachel at the mall. I want her to read as exceptionally kind for the position she finds herself in; she's Rachel's best friend, and the two work great together because they are such an 'opposites attract' duo. Cassie should be soft-spoken, but able to put her foot down to stand up for what she believes in. You'll need to be in-tune with your emotions; Cassie cries the most out of the bunch.

Tobias starts our story as a thirteen-year-old boy who is a bit of a detached dreamer, coasting through life. His home life isn't very sustainable, being taken care of by aunts and uncles who cast him away and send him off for long periods of time because no one wants to deal with him. Tobias is a little brooding, in the sense that he's well aware he is unwanted and a bit of a castaway. He latches onto Jake's friend group at the beginning, before they get their powers, but he isn't really friends with all of them yet... and then, once Elfangor's Andalite ship crash lands on earth, Tobias is the first one to jump in and use his morphing abilities. He lives for the rush of escapism that comes with morphing into animals, and he accidentally becomes trapped permanently in the body of a hawk after he goes over the two-hour time limit that comes with morphing. I want someone a little brooding, sardonic and self-depreciating for Tobias.

Visser Three is the leader of the current Yeerk Empire faction that is taking over earth. He is cruel, ruthless, and has a searing hatred for the Animorphs, who he mistakenly believes are Andalite warriors who constantly evade his capture. He acts as the 'Saturday morning cartoon villain' to the Animorphs weekly runtime, but he's actually incredibly cut-throat and will not hesitate to kill anybody who gets in his way. His own crew mates, other humans - it doesn't matter. I need him to have a deep, scary and scathing voice, full of seriousness and self-importance. Like an alligator waiting to snap its jaws shut on its prey.
