Amnesia: Helena [Custom Story]

Project Overview

"Amnesia: Helena" is a project that I've been working on since December of 2012. With the five year mark approaching, I'm looking to finish this up and get it released, either sometime between late December or early January.

The turn around will need to be fairly week, a little under one month. However, these characters listed are mostly all minor roles and don't have too many lines.

The story does involve mature themes, if this makes you feel uncomfortable. I do require a certain level of quality: no headset mics and no puffs, pops, mouse clicks, fans, slates, etc. I'm not looking for pro studio quality, but I do want to make sure all the actors at least sound as if they are in the same room together.

This is unpaid as well. This has always been simply a passion project and, currently, I have no available funds to put towards this, as much as I want to.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Latest Updates

  • Deadline Passed, However...

I've either not received enough auditions to feel I can make an informed decision for certain characters or just haven't really heard what I'm looking for yet, so: The deadline will be extended yet again, but this time all roles will be a first come, first served basis. I will not be waiting until the next deadline to cast.
  • Deadline Extension

I've gotten a few people messaging me and letting me know that they won't be able to meet the initially set deadline, so it is being pushed back until the end of the week (Sunday).
  • New Character Added

I've added the character of Papa, as I've not heard from my original character. Keep in mind, that should the original actor pop up again, I will most likely remove this character. But in the meantime, I'm really trying to get this going.

cast offsite

Allan is one of the group of four men that frequently visit the house, an old friend of “Papa”. He tends to be more aggressive than the others and is also one of the smarter gentlemen of the circle and is more emotive. His age range is late 30s to late 40s.

Voice Type: British, Medium – Low; a few of the other men have deep voices, and, since these characters are never physically seen, I want to avoid his voice being too deep (but still with a lower tone) and his accent, though British, is less refined than the nice typical Posh accent.

NOTE: This character will have instances of intense screaming.

  • He’s
been rather shifty as of late. Nervous. How do we know he will even go through
    with this plan?

  • (completely terrified, facing death; the intention of this line is to test for screaming and audio quality) Ludwig!
    No! What have you done!

  • When
I got back into the house, I came across Solange, in a desperate state. The
entire house is locked. There is no escape.

David is another of the four-man group, another old friend of “Papa”. He is the youngest of the group, about early to late 30s. He is a heavy substance user, which may make him sound a little spacy or drowsy, but only enough to give others a vague suspicion of his activities.

Voice Type: British, Medium; his voice may come off as a little more scratchy than the others, making it distinctive from the other men.

  • Er...
would you mind fetching me another few bottles of the laudanum, wherever the
    servants have hidden it?

  • (drunk) Oh, Martin! A minor spill--

  • She
lied! The filthy bitch lied! She said she could take the pain away! Uugh! It
    hurts!

//Note: It may seem like line 3 is a typo, but it is intentionally written "he told to me this already". The pattern of speech comes from the way David Suchet's Poirot is written, giving him a very "foreign" air. It is not a typo. I highly recommend watching the video linked below and generally researching this specific character.

Dr. Favre is a French psychologist. He is more up to interpretation, but is relatively calm in his mannerisms. His age is roughly in his late 40s to late 50s.

Voice Type: French, Medium; Favre’s lines are heavily inspired by David Suchet’s performance of the classic literary character Hercule Poirot and as such a few of the character’s speech patterns are present and it would be best to take his portrayal of the French-Belgian accent into consideration. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZJpGq6W1bw) A basic understanding of the French language is required.

  • Monsieur
Ludwig, would you mind if I should ask you a question that is most personal?

  • Cette
folie à famille, while there is not a curse, as Sire Nikolai most
ardently pressed, there is the distinct possibility of some sort of heredity
    illness.

  • Oui,
Monsieur Ludwig. Mon ami, Nikolai, he told to me this already, the other night.
    He said

you were in a search most desperate, n'est-ce pas?

"Papa" is Helena's father, and has a quite mysterious life. He doesn't seem to quite get on with his "friends", and feels burdened down whatever events happened to him in the past. His age range is roughly mid 50s.

Voice Type: British, Low; the accent for Papa is  little more flexible. He's not natively British (having been raised abroad, though eventually going to school in England). Ideally, he might have some sort of a French inflection, but a very learned English accent works just as fine.

  • Every waking moment is an echo from a nightmare, and every nightmare born from my own uniquely devised hell.

  • Pray, my child. Pray. You must pray. Please, child, pray!

  • (muffled crying) She is gone... How unbelievable this all is... She is gone.

This is an undisclosed character, requiring a British accent, almost regal-like; soft, gentle, motherly.

One of the included lines is from another source, but this is a way of not revealing pieces of script, but still hearing what you as the voice have to offer.

  • (gently sing "Twinkle Twinkle, Little Star", as if singing to a sleepy baby)

  • (the following is the opening for Silent Hill 2; with a British accent, play the character of Mary, as if she is still sick, coughing, etc.) In my restless dreams, I see that town: Silent Hill. You promised you'd take me there again someday, but you never did. Well, I'm alone there now. In our special place, waiting for you....

This is an undisclosed character, requiring a British accent, though not as refined, but not too “countrified”; strong, but soothing.

One of the included lines is from another source, but this is a way of not revealing pieces of script, but still hearing what you as the voice have to offer.

  • (choking, frustrated yells - feel free to improvise any words)

  • (the following is the opening for Silent
Hill 2; with a British accent, play the character of Maria, angry and terrified) "Anyway"!? What do you mean "Anyway"!?
You don’t sound very happy to see me. I was almost killed back
there! Why didn’t you try to save me? All you care about is that
dead wife of yours! I’ve never been so scared in my whole life!
You couldn’t care less about me, could you?

This is an undisclosed character. This role requires fluent/experienced knowledge of French.

On this particular character, audio quality is not a very high priority. The highest concern is the French aspect of the character.

It would be preferable to hear two different items (either 2 songs, 2 poems, or a mix of either, or something else entirely),

  • (sing any lullaby/perform any poem in French - whatever you perform for your audition, please list the text in the comments for your audio so I can check it against the audio)

Probably the youngest of the men's group (not too much younger, mid to late 30s), whose taste borderline flamboyant. He comes off as more suave and sophisticated, though this is more airs than anything else.

Voice Type: British, Medium-High; while I do want him to be flamboyant to some degree, this shouldn't be his whole character. It's merely to give him an edge that's different from the other men who are more "traditional" in their standards.

NOTE: There is a second aspect to this character that will require a slightly different delivery style, with reference to Leslie from "The Evil Within" (https://youtu.be/Ceh5_LoU9HM?t=676). It doesn't need to be exactly the same (I'd perfer it wasn't), but take note on the character and apply the same idea to this aspect. The particular line for this delivery will be noted below.

  • (Laughing manner, when his behavior is called into question)
Haha, I am a man in search of life! And to live, one must experience, and I desire to experience as much as I can.

  • (In an incredulous manner)
He has to, doesn’t he? Even if he was starting to back out, he isn’t in a position to negotiate.

  • (The second aspect of this character; see reference Leslie, "The Evil Within")
Fire and blood. Fire and blood. Fire and blood. The time is upon us. It is the time. We have all been damned! A reign of plagues upon Man. The wrath! The wrath is upon us! The wrath of the Eye!
