Character Breakdown
Alethia (Female)
Word Count: ~65 words total.
Character Breakdown:
Age Range / Description: Android, appears early 20s.
Personality: Insecure and emotionally dependent, yet deeply principled, caring, and protective. Her anger or frustration is a defensive shield masking intense vulnerability and terror.
The Golden Rule: Strong but terrified. The audience must hear her genuine desire to help, mixed with her terror of failing. If she sounds weak, the stakes are lost; if she sounds driven by responsibility and fear, the audience roots for her.
Core Motivation / Backstory: After a tragedy occurred under her solo care, she falsely believes she cannot keep people safe on her own. She relies entirely on Balin for stability. When she is with him, she is sweet, stable, and protective. The moment she feels him slipping away or messing up, she falls apart.
Vocal Mechanics & Delivery:
Baseline Voice: Maintain a bright mid-range pitch with soft, open, warm vowels. Friendly and conversational.
Under Panic / Fear: As her anxiety increases, her voice should naturally thin out, bringing an urgent, demanding edge to the surface. It should sound nervous, tight, erratic, fragile, and breathless—near cracking and stripped of all usual warmth as she scrapes the upper edges of her vocal range.
Balin (Male)
Character Arc/Vibe: A low-in-throat baritone. He wears a slightly arrogant, smug "shell" to mask his own fear. When pushed, he relies on urgent stage-whispers and soft, warm, genuine assurances to calm Alethia down and keep them alive.

Alethia Audition Lines
Line 1:
(As you realize where you are, a chill of terror grips you. She placed her trust in Balin to keep her safe, but his mistake triggers a growing fear. This is not angry or an "I told you so" delivery.)
Line: "This is a dead end!"Line 2:
[Overlap Cue: Triggered the moment Balin grabs your arm.] (She is angry at him and absolutely not having it. High, tight voice. Angry, like 'don't do that, it's not nice,' but not shrill.)
Line: "Hey!"Line 3:
(Urgent, tight whisper with cracks at the tail end of the words, pulling desperately for Balin to hear and understand her panic.)
Line: "In a dead end? What if they find us?"Line 4:
(Subtext: She is angry that he doesn't seem to take the danger seriously, but her core reliance on him makes her accept his leadership anyway. Sharp, restricted exhale of frustration.)
Line: Angry exhale
ALT TAKE: "Fine."Line 5:
(A short, defensive whisper. She maintains the need for stealth, but her tone shows her feelings are hurt and she is waiting for him to say sorry.)
Line: Angry/Pouty breath
