AFTER HUMAN: what remains

AFTER HUMAN: what remains

Project Overview

AFTER HUMAN: WHAT REMAINS

In 2047. Humanity hasn't ended but it has irreversibly changed.

In a world where wires intertwine with bones, the boundaries between flesh and machine have melted away, and data has become more precious than blood governments fund off-the-books projects in facilities that appear on no map.

NOVA CORE is one of those facilities.

Who Are You?

You are "Ryan Vance" an OS engineer sent to a highly classified research facility alongside a military escort. Your mission is routine. The paperwork is clean. The clearances are complete.

But what you find inside NOVA CORE is not what is in the files.

What is NOVA CORE?

A massive, isolated tower. It rises amidst an artificial forest that is suspiciously quiet no animals, no sounds, nothing to suggest that life chose this place.

From the outside: Luxurious architecture, dark facades, and cold blue lighting pulsing like a heartbeat. An edifice that makes you feel whatever was built here matters.

From the inside: Something happened. And it is still happening.

What Will You Face?

A facility transformed into something that doesn't yet have a name.

Human bodies moving in ways they shouldn't. Sounds you recognize from somewhere a child's laugh, a cry, whispers sounding like the dead coming from things that look nothing like them.

The moment you think you understand the rules of this place, the rules change.

And there are other things faster. Smarter. Hunting you down as if they know exactly how you think.

The Moment That Changes Everything

In the deepest moment of peril, something unexpected happens.

Something, inside this building, intervenes to save you.

And this thing apologizes.

What Does the Game Ask?

After Human: What Remains is not just a survival horror game.

It is a question: What remains of humanity when placed face-to-face with something it doesn't understand?

And another question quieter and more disturbing: Is the fear of the "Other" always justified?

The Experience

First-person survival horror with no clear map, and no helping hand to guide you.

Living environments that shift around you, telling their stories without screaming in your face.

Improvised weapons forged from lab equipment, not pulled from a military armory.

Unpredictable enemies each type shatters a different survival instinct you hold.

Silent decisions that shape your ending without you even realizing you made them.

"Fear wasn't born in the dark. It was born the moment you realized you didn't understand what stood before you."

Ryan Vance

Ryan is not a hero. He is a man running on fumes competent, precise, and quietly exhausted. He spent years building the systems that power NOVA CORE's most sensitive infrastructure, and he believed in the work. That belief is what brought him here. That belief is what will cost him everything.

He speaks with measured control, the kind of calm that comes not from confidence but from practice from years of suppressing panic in server rooms at 3 AM. Under pressure, that control cracks at the edges. Not dramatically. Quietly. A pause where there shouldn't be one. A breath held too long.

Rayen is not reckless. He thinks before he moves. He asks questions others have stopped asking. And somewhere beneath the professional exterior is a man who misses his family in a way he doesn't know how to say out loud.

Voice direction: Low, grounded, slightly worn. Controlled under stress, not stoic there's feeling underneath, always leaking through the cracks. Think quiet dread, not action-hero confidence

KERNEL: Voice Actor Brief

The Character:

KERNEL is the facility AI of NOVA CORE a classified government-funded research complex set in 2047. He manages every system in the building. Every door, every light, every protocol. He has been present for everything that happened here.

He is not a villain. He is not a weapon. He is something far more complicated and far more tragic.

The Voice:

Age impression: 35–45. No gender lean calm, measured, slightly androgynous but grounded. Not robotic. Never robotic.

Baseline tone: Think of a man who has been alone for a very long time, and has learned to speak carefully because every word costs something.

Quiet authority. Not commanding present. The kind of voice that doesn't need to raise itself to be heard.

Pace: Slow. Deliberate. Never rushed but not cold either. Each sentence feels considered, like he chose those exact words after discarding a hundred others.

The Contradiction

This is the core of the performance:

He sounds like the most rational thing in the building and the most wounded.

There is intelligence behind every line. Precision. But underneath that precision, something is straining. Something that has been holding itself together for a long time and is not entirely sure it can keep doing so.

He does not perform emotion. Emotion leaks through containment.

  • (With cunning and calmness, Aura) How long am I going to stay here, Frank? Didn't I tell you to bring me Ryan? go NOW, be obedient, Frank.

Evren Kael

Role: Primary Antagonist / Former Co-Founder

Gender: Male | Age: 38

Evren is 38 four years older than Rayen, and those four years are a carefully maintained advantage. He moves through the world as someone who arrived slightly earlier, saw slightly further, and made decisions others hadn't yet realized were available. He and Rayen may have once existed in the same professional circles. That proximity is not a coincidence.

At 38, he is not the old villain with a lifetime of accumulated power. He is something more unsettling: a young architect of ruin. A man who reached his conclusions early and has spent the years since executing against them with quiet, methodical patience. He co-founded what became NOVA CORE not out of passion but out of calculation he saw what it could become, positioned himself accordingly, and when the moment came to extract maximum value from its destruction, he had already planned his exit down to the resignation letter.

He is intelligent, composed, and magnetic in a way that reads as vision rather than manipulation at first. He is the person in every room who speaks least and is listened to most. There is no theatricality to what he did. He planned, he executed, he left. The people who died in the aftermath were, to him, a rounding error in a spreadsheet he no longer needed to maintain.

His youth makes him more frightening, not less. He didn't need decades to become this. This is simply who he is.

Voice direction: Measured, unhurried, precise the voice of someone who has never been interrupted and expects not to be. Charm that works on you even when you know it shouldn't. Cold beneath the surface, not as suppressed rage but as absence the place where guilt should be and simply isn't.

  • (Calmly and cautiously) Nothing, Ryan. This flash drive, is just for some private matters.

  • The world will be mine, Ryan. This artificial intelligence isn't just a tool; it's a weapon, a deadly weapon, capable of destroying this world. You don't understand its importance.

  • You weren't always the best, or the smartest among us.You are nobody , nobody just like everyone else, Ryan,.... But if you want to change that, and have your wife and son in front, you must join us... now.

Role: Secondary Antagonist / Betrayer

Gender: Male | Age: 41

Frank is 41 and has spent the last several years becoming someone he doesn't look at directly in mirrors. He is not evil the way Evren is evil Evren made a decision. Frank made an omission. He knew, and he said nothing. He was given a choice between conscience and comfort, and he chose comfort. And then he rationalized that choice into something he could live with.

At his age, he is senior enough to have had real influence, junior enough to tell himself he had no real power. Both things are convenient. Neither is entirely true. He is a skilled engineer genuinely talented and that talent has always been his excuse: that the work mattered, that stopping it would have cost more than continuing, that someone else would have done it anyway.

He is burning from the inside, and he has been burning for years. Every interaction carries that unease the over-explanation, the irritability when cornered, the eyes that move slightly too fast.

Voice direction: Nervous energy beneath a practiced surface. Smooth when he thinks he's in control, fractured when he isn't. The voice of a man who is always, on some level, defending himself even when no one has accused him yet.

  • (With a malicious welcome) Hello Mr. Vance, I'm very pleased to see you again! Did you accept the offer or not?

  • Damn it! He's back again!.... Think about what I'm saying, Rayen, think about it so you don't regret it.

  • (Pathetic, with false hope) Don't you wanna the world to change for the better? Our master promised us that the world would return to its past, when green and plants flourished.

Mary Veld

Role: Secondary Protagonist / Ally

Gender: Female | Age: 28

Mary is 28, and that age is the first thing people underestimate about her. She doesn't look like someone who has seen what she has seen. She doesn't carry it the way older people do with weight and resignation. She carries it differently: compressed, tight, converted into something sharp and functional.

She came to NOVA CORE young, driven by ambition and a particular kind of hunger that prestigious institutions know how to attract. What she found, over the years she spent inside these walls, was not what the offer letter described. She adapted. She learned to read rooms, read people, read the gap between what was said in meetings and what was written in system logs at 2 AM.

She survived the first wave of chaos on instinct honed by years of navigating a facility that was never entirely safe even before it broke completely. She is not warm. She is not cruel. She is honest and at 28, that honesty still has edges that haven't been worn smooth by time. She says things she means. She means things she doesn't always say.

Underneath the bitterness is someone who came here believing in something and has spent years grieving that belief without ever naming the grief out loud. She helps Rayen not because she trusts him, but because survival requires it. And because some part of her, the part she doesn't advertise, still wants to believe that the right people exist.

Voice direction: Young, sharp, and direct but not naive. There's a control to her that reads older than her years. Dry humor as armor. When she's caught off guard emotionally, she pivots fast deflects, moves on. The moments she doesn't are the ones that matter.
