A Voice From Darkness: horror audiodrama podcast
Project Overview
A Voice From Darkness is a horror audiodrama podcast. It features Kristin Holland as Dr. Malcolm Ryder, a parapsychologist and radio broadcaster, who helps callers with supernatural problems. Our show also has an ongoing story/world that's being reveled to the listener over time.
We're currently casting for two female roles - each of which will have ongoing parts in this series.
For both roles - it's important to note a few things:
- We want realistic performances. Your character is an actual person who's talking, emoting, reacting.
- Both of these characters are in a scene with another actor - you'll need to be available to record either with them (over the phone - just your part) or with the director reading their part.
- If you have a theatrical or film background - please tell us.

To everyone who auditioned, thank you so much for taking the time to do so. Sometime in the next few days I'll be reaching out to those who I want to offer parts to. Again - thank you so much. If you didn't get cast in one of these roles, please don't let that discourage you from auditioning for our show sometime in the future - we need new voice actors constantly for nearly every episode of our show. Thanks! - Jac
Professor Amelia Ryder is an adventurous academic and scoundrel. She's Indiana Jones meets Han Solo. She comes from a family of occult scholars, and is the sister of the lead of our show. Although she went into the "family business" she has no patience for academic bureaucracy. She prefers to do what she thinks is right, regardless what the institutions she's allied with, or her family, thinks.
All three lines included with this come from a scene where Amelia is trying to recruit someone to come back with her to the supernatural school she's a professor at. The person she's speaking to is currently allied with someone dangerous.
What? You didn't have any friends in high school? College? Girlfriends? Boyfriends? You could have talked to any of them. But you didn't. Why?
Everything he said was true. And you felt sympathy for him. But at the same time you admired him. Wished you were more like him. But you thought, at the very least, you wanted a reason to be around him more. Help him with whatever he asked.
You kept your gift so secret though, we didn't even know you existed until you called Malcolm. And then he threw you at The Salesman - I had some very choice words to say to him about that.
Charlotte Price, oneironaut extraordinaire, as she calls herself is somewhat of a cross between Marry Poppins, Mrs. Whatsit, and something probably more dangerous than either. She's someone who travels into other's dreams to help them. She's prideful and boastful, but at the same time, mostly deserving of the praise she gives herself. That said - the sound, the personality I'm looking for her to have is somewhat like Phoebe from Friends. Kind of flighty, easy-going, but a creative, intuitive soul.
In the lines provided, the first two, Charlotte is speaking to someone she's been helping for months now. From Charlotte's perspective, it's as if she's caught in a Groundhog Day almost - repeating the same conversation with the person, constantly reintroducing herself.
In the last line, she's speaking to someone who she used to be close to but no longer can be.
You never remember me. Side effect of only ever encountering me in your dreams. Charlotte Price, oneironaut extraordinaire. Pleasure to meet you Amanda. For the gazillonth time. Shall we go?
I'm a dream traveler. Best in the business - lucky you! And anywhere you'd like. We just need to get a move on so The Salesman can't find us. For months now you, he and I've been playing cat and mouse. With you as the cheese? Is that how the expression works?
(heartbroken) No. I can't.
