Hortensia is the princess of a neighbouring kingdom. She is kind, intelligent, and behaves 'the way a lady should', but she isn't without her snark and wit. She is Markyll's arranged wife, and knows about his affair with Bazel. Thankfully, she vows to keep his secret safe. 

Hortensia speaks in a Scottish accent, but if you are unable to do this, don't let this deter you from auditioning. I am perfectly fine with the character being voice in a standard English accent. Mezzo soprano, D4 to E5.

  • "Dear me. You look like you want to be here just as much as I do." 

  • "Ah, he is a handsome fellow, is he not? I should've known. I saw the way you looked at him when you entered."

  • Sing 0:00 to 0:35 in "If Stars Aligned". This is not one of Hortensia's songs, but she doesn't have any existing singing parts yet. If needed, you are welcome to sing it up the octave.
