Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception Fandub
xyloto for Maroro
A scholar versed in magic, Maroro speaks in archaic, theatrical language--over-the-top Elizabethan. He's an old friend of Ukon's, but things rarely go right for him--his family's deep in debt, his goofy appearance and speech patterns keep him from winning anyone's respect, and he's a bit of a coward. Still, when someone's kind to him, he never forgets the favor--eager to do all he can for his close friends, no matter how much they try to keep him at arm's length.
Voice: Begins as comic relief, but grows serious later in the story, Maroro is a mid-to-high range voice. Some of his lines are delivered drunk, vomiting mid-line, or sobbing with comical, melodramatic emotion. The role's greatest demand will be mastering the Elizabethan speech patterns for comedy, and later, for grim intimidation. The more he is initially presented as a ridiculous fool, the more impact it will lend to later scenes of genuine sorrow and anguish, so be prepared for an actual dramatic soliloquy.
(Airy, extravagantly emphatic, then awestruck by the sight of a pretty lady) Prithee, time runneth but finite and my tasks are legion. (gasp) But soft! I behold a muse!
(overcome with joy/friendship) O, Master Haku, thou art a friend to surpass the dearest of all friends!
(less comic relief, more dramatic moment. Bittersweet, sad smile as he reflects on a friend's advice) As ever, thou art in the right. Let us drink down all solemnity, and drink up till dawn's light.
