Soul is Maka's weapon and partner in training. When Soul and Maka's wavelengths connect, Soul is able to transform into a scythe, giving him and Maka the power to slay demons and take their corrupted souls. In a twist on his anime counterpart, Soul is incredibly arrogant and thinks very little of Maka; at one point in the story, he admits to becoming her weapon out of pity. Despite being a powerful weapon, Soul's actions tend to get the pair into trouble and at one point, nearly killed. Regardless of his ego, Soul is incredibly talented as a weapon and with Maka as his meister, the two are capable of just about anything. That is, if he can get over himself first.

You seriously think I'd date somebody as pathetic as Maka? Pfft! Everybody in the DWMA was too afraid to ask me to be their partner. Probably afraid they were gonna cramp my style.
