Alex was born with a rare eye disease (maybe Stargardt disease). His parents' abuse didn’t help his case at all. After his vision was about completely lost, his father leaves him at the same orphanage as Rose. There he becomes her first friend after the accident.
After learning more about Rose, he vows to keep her safe, no matter what it would cost him. He stays by Rose’s side, only knowing half of her life, finding himself falling in love with her. After spending years with her, he finds out about the dark side of Rose.
