The love interest's personal friends are rarely seen, and it's a mystery whether he actually has any close friends. That said, classmates, teammates, and acquaintances of his appear regularly in the background for him to converse with, usually as the main character watches from afar.

In this case, the love interest, Masaya, is walking down the hallway at school with two other boys, probably also in seventh grade. They are chatting about something incredibly generic - gauging Masaya's interest in some event or hangout.

The name is pronounced "MAH-sah-yah" (schwas allowed, of course). Although the reflex for English speakers is to emphasize the second syllable rather than the first (which may well be calculated on the part of the creators), we found that it gets extremely annoying when said as often as it is said. The first syllable emphasis also yields a TECHNICALLY more accurate pronunciation as well, so that's a bonus.

Any male who can sound reasonably young should work for this role. Even if you're a guy who doesn't think you can sound young enough, give it a try!
