Arthur is our hero. He is a scrawny English orphan in his younger years but runs from his home in his older years. He runs to France with his younger brother Russel who was a baby in the orphanage. He makes his way up the French economy using his intellect and his clock making skills. He creates a clock store using a building he lives in owned by his friend, Marie. He meets and falls in love with another English immigrant while trying to fend for his life during the french revolution.
John, what am I going to do? I’ll never be able to buy my own house I don’t have any money. I don’t want to die when we’ve come so far.
That’s not what I mean! I mean let it go! You’re going insane. People who act like this belong in an asylum. Although it may seem differently, I don’t want to see you in an asylum. I’m concerned for you, Ruscus.
