In this story, James Gordon is returning from helping the Justice League in their search for Steppenwolf. After reigniting their partnership, Jim is hopeful that Batman will begin to turn Gotham around. While Jim has certainly questioned Batman's falling moral standards, the "end of the world" was a good enough reason to drop the charges that the GCPD was hellbent on giving Batman. Jim ultimately wants Batman to aid the GCPD in their search for Gotham's anonymous killer, but he also hopes that Batman's days of branding and killing are done and over. He will attempt to halt Batman's charges as long as he can.

JK Simmons's role was small in Justice League, but there's enough material there to form a good impression of his Commissioner. Considering it's a minor role, you can a be bit more free with it, but a JK Simmons impression for Gordon would work better.

Jim tends to talk to Batman, officers on the force, and Barbara. Whether on the job or at home, Jim's voice sounds hard but brittle; he's been doing this for a while. However, he covers up his insecurities unless he's talking to Barbara or Batman. If he begins to doubt himself, the force, or something else, he'll let them know about it for sure. He's not usually open, but can be if friendly enough with a person.

  • (Slight surprise to Batman) I wasn't exactly sure you'd show up here again. Guess it really has been over a decade since we've met like this.

  • (Disappointed) Trust me, I would have sent someone if I could. Bullock seemed up for it, but he's already behind on some other cases. And my people are stretched thin; Gotham's such a cesspool right now that something like this can't get the attention it deserves. I was praying for your help on this one.

  • (Trying to open up to Barbara) I hope things are fine in forensics. God knows it's a mess in the precinct these days. I... I'm sorry, I shouldn't talk about this stuff when we're home. I don't want you to leave your job because your dad kept complaining at your office door.
