Terumi is the main antagonist of the BlazBlue series. He works alongside Izanami and Relius Clover, and is responsible for many of the tragedies that occur throughout the series. Sadistic, wicked, and cruel; many of Teurmi's appearances often involve him tormenting other cast members. Initially semi-playable as Hazama's Unlimited Form, he becomes a separate playable character using the appearance of a previous host body in Chrono Phantasma. He created both the Black Beast and the Azure Grimoire, is the original owner of the Susano'o Unit, founded both the NOL and Sector Seven, and is directly responsible for kidnapping Saya to use as Izanami's host. He was also a member of the Six Heroes, but later betrayed them after helping them destroy his own Black Beast. Like Hazama, Terumi fights with the Nox Nyctores, Geminus Anguium: Ouroboros, and balisong knives, though utilizes a more brutal and aggressive style than Hazama's more controlled movements. With his Drive, Force Eater, his attacks have heavy Heat Gauge gain, while the opponent gains none from being hit by (or blocking) them. During the events of Chrono Phantasma, Terumi is separated from Hazama and supposedly killed by Hakumen while Platinum delivers a near fatal blow to Hazama. Central Fiction, however, reveals that Terumi used self-observation to barely survive. With only a week left before he dissipates for real, Terumi raids the coffin of Rachel's father to acquire a material known as Hihiirokane that would help him find the 'perfect body.' Biding his time until the perfect moment, Terumi later rips Hakumen out of the Susano'o Unit and retakes it for himself. Revealing the Unit is in actuality his original body, Terumi reunite with it to assume his true form as the deity Susano'o. Restored to his true self, he attempts to go through with destroying all of existence. Ragna, Jin, and Trinity are able to stop him and tear him out of his body once more, whereupon Ragna kills him for good.

Cruel, sadistic, and selfish, Terumi delights in the suffering of others, both physically and mentally, and relishes pure chaos. He happily provokes and manipulates others for his own amusement, and ruthlessly tortures anyone who irritates him or get in his way. Unsurprisingly, this has earned him the contempt of almost every character in the BlazBlue universe, most notably Ragna, Kokonoe, and Nine. However, he is prone to enraged tantrums and panics a lot when things don’t go his way.

Despite this, Terumi’s personality serves as a foil to both Hazama and his original self, Susanoo; the former seems to favor more subtle forms of dialogue and harmless manipulation with Terumi being more blunt and open to violence (shown even more clearly when the two are separated as of Centralfiction), to the point where even Terumi himself cannot fully trust Hazama with specific duties due to the latter’s ambiguity. Meanwhile, his personality as Susanoo is more composed and focused on rage and hatred rather than the sadistic tendencies displayed as Terumi.
