Storyboard Artist

Role: Storyboard Artist

Description:
I'm looking for a storyboard artist to help visually plan scenes for Mayday, an independent animated series.

The storyboard artist will take scripts and story ideas and turn them into clear visual sequences that can be used as a guide for animation. The goal is to make each scene easy to understand while giving the characters strong acting, expressions, poses, and comedic or dramatic timing.

Looking for:

  • Strong understanding of visual storytelling

  • Good knowledge of camera angles and composition

  • Ability to storyboard character interactions and action

  • Strong sense of timing and pacing

  • Ability to communicate movement clearly through drawings

  • Good understanding of facial expressions and body language

  • Comfortable working from scripts and written descriptions

  • Able to take feedback and make revisions

  • Animation or film/storyboarding experience is preferred but not required

Style:
Cartoon / expressive / character-focused. The storyboards don't need to be highly polished illustrations. Clear posing, staging, expressions, and camera direction are more important than detailed artwork.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Creating storyboards from scripts

  • Planning camera shots and transitions

  • Blocking character movements and acting

  • Planning action and comedic sequences

  • Creating rough thumbnails and storyboards

  • Making revisions based on feedback

  • Working with the director, animator, and other artists to keep scenes consistent

Experience:
Beginner and aspiring storyboard artists are welcome to apply! Professional experience isn't required. I'm more interested in your visual storytelling ability than having a professional résumé.

Audition:
Please provide storyboard samples, animatics, thumbnails, or sequential art. A short scene showing character acting and camera movement is preferred.

Estimated Workload:
The workload will depend on the episode and number of scenes. Artists may work on individual scenes or sequences rather than being expected to storyboard the entire series alone.

Important:
This is an independent passion project. The storyboard artist will collaborate with the creator and other members of the team to develop the visual direction of each scene.

Please include your expected rate, availability, and the type of workload you are comfortable handling.
